2歴代誌1章　ソロモンの栄華

1．ソロモンの礼拝

2歴代誌は、ソロモンの治世からイスラエルの捕囚、そしてその回復までを扱っています。列王記と重なる部分が多く、1章もオリジナルは1-6節のみで、7-13節は、1列王記3:5-15の要約となっています。また14-17節は、1列王記10:26-29の再録です。ともあれ、この1章は、ソロモンの神殿建設の出来事を取り上げ、読者に、神殿再建を始めるように促すものです。

まずソロモンは、神殿を建て上げるにあたって、ギブオンにある高き所に行って（3節）、主に求め（5節）、ささげ物を献げました（6節）。ソロモンが、ギブオンに行ったのは、そこに会見の天幕があったからだ、と説明されています。しかし、神の臨在の象徴である神の箱は、エルサレムにありました。なぜ彼は、エルサレムではなく、わざわざギブオンまで行ったのか。それは、ギブオンには、ベツァルエルが造った青銅の祭壇があったからでした。つまり、著者は、ソロモンがギブオンに「行って、求め、献げ」た礼拝の行為に注目しているのです。ソロモンは、礼拝を献げるためにギブオンに行ったのです。そこにすべての祝福の基礎がありました。神殿を建てる、教会を建てる、同じようなところがあり、それは、まず、これが神に献げられる働きであることを、礼拝という出発点で確認しなくてはなりません。

2．ソロモンの祈り

次にソロモンが主に何を求めたのかがわかるエピソードが挿入されます（7-13節）。ソロモンは、第一に神に約束の守りを（9節）、第二に知恵と知識を求めています（10節）。ソロモンが求めたのは、神が契約を誠実に守ってくださることでした。そして、自分が神に与えられた使命を忠実に果たすことができるための知恵と知識が与えられることでした。大切なのは、知恵と知識が一番優れている願い事というのではなくて、神に与えられた使命を果たすために必要なものを彼が求めた点です。神殿建設を神の使命として託された時に、彼は然るべきものを求めたのです。このような祈りというものが私たちの内にあるのかどうか、考えたいところでしょう。いや、そもそも、神の使命として託されているものというものが、私たちにあるのか。それがなければ、このような祈りも、その恵みも経験することはないでしょう。「あなたに何を与えようか。願え」という神の語り掛けは、神の使命あってこそ受けるものです。神は、私たちの好き勝手な我欲に付き合う神ではないのです。まず神の使命を探る必要のある方がいるのではないでしょうか。この教会で何をするように神は語られているのか、はっきりと理解すべきでしょう。そしてそれにふさわしい助けを神に祈るのです。

3．約束を果たす神

14-17節は、神の約束が忠実に果たされたことを証しています。考古学上の発掘によって、石造りの馬屋がメギドに発見されています。メギドそれ自体は、20層からなるテル（小高い遺丘）で、イスラエル時代のものは、4-6層に、約450頭の馬を収容し得る馬屋が発見されています。これらは当初ソロモン時代のものと考えられていましたが、実際にはエジプトの王シシャクによって滅ぼされ、その後再建されたアハブ王、あるいはヤロブアム2世の時代のもの、と今では考えられています。ともあれ、同様のものが、イスラエルの国中に配備されたのが、戦車の町々、という意味です。サウル王とヨナタンだけが武器を持っていた時代とは、あまりにも大きな差です。イスラエルがそこまで繁栄したのは、「大いなる恵みを施された」神によるものです（8節）。銀と金を石のように用いるようにさせた神。近隣諸国との関係を守り輸入と仲買を盛んにさせた神。神は、真に恵み豊かな神であり、約束を守られる神である、その確信が大事です。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

2 Chronicles covers the reign of Solomon through the captivity of Israel and its restoration. There are many parts that overlap with Kings, and the original chapter 1 is only verses 1-6, and verses 7-13 are a summary of 1 Kings 3:5-15. Also, verses 14-17 are a reprint of 1 Kings 10:26-29. In any case, this first chapter deals with the events of Solomon’s temple building and urges the reader to begin rebuilding the temple.

First, Solomon went to the high places in Gibeon (verse 3) to build the temple, asked the Lord (verse 5), and offered offerings (verse 6). It is explained that Solomon went to Gibeon because there was a tent of meeting there. But the ark of God, the symbol of God’s presence, was in Jerusalem. Why did he bother to go to Gibeon instead of Jerusalem? For at Gibeon there was a bronze altar that Bezalel had made. In other words, the author focuses on the act of worship that Solomon “went, sought, and offered” to Gibeon. Solomon went to Gibeon to offer worship. There was the basis of all blessings. Building a temple is similar to building a church. First of all, we must confirm from the starting point of worship that this is a work dedicated to God.

1.  Solomon’s Prayer

Next, an episode is inserted that shows what Solomon mainly sought (verses 7-13). Solomon asks God first for the keeping of his promises (v. 9) and second for wisdom and knowledge (v. 10). What Solomon asked was for God to faithfully keep the covenant. And he was to be given the wisdom and knowledge to enable him to faithfully carry out his God-given mission. The point is not that he asked for what wisdom and knowledge are best at, but that he asked for what he needed to fulfill his God-given mission. When he was entrusted with the mission of God to build the temple, he sought what he deserved. Would you like to wonder if there is such a prayer in us? No, in the first place, do we have what God entrusts us with as a mission? Without it, you would not experience such prayers and their grace. The utterance of God, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” is an utterance that can only be received when you have the mission of God. God is not a God who goes along with our selfish egoism. Isn’t there someone who needs to search for God’s mission first? We should have a clear understanding of what God is telling us to do in this church. And pray to God for the help you deserve.

2. God who keeps promises

Verses 14-17 testify that God’s promises have been faithfully fulfilled. Archaeological excavations have uncovered stone stables at Megiddo. Megiddo itself is a 20-storey tell (small mound), and Israeli-era stables have been found on levels 4-6 that can accommodate about 450 horses. Originally thought to be of Solomonic age, they are now thought to be of King Ahab, or Jeroboam II, who was actually destroyed by the Egyptian king Shishak and then rebuilt. In any case, similar ones were deployed throughout the country of Israel, meaning the towns of chariots. It’s a big difference from the time when only King Saul and Jonathan had weapons. Israel’s prosperity is due to God, who “had great grace” (v. 8). The God who caused silver and gold to be used like stone. A God who protected relations with neighboring countries and made imports and brokerages flourish. It is important to have the conviction that God is a truly gracious God and a God who keeps his promises. I hope you have a good day today.
