1．ちりあくたを捨て去る（3:1-9）
教会が教会らしくなっていくためには、一人一人の信仰の成熟が欠かせません。教会員一人一人が自分の救いの完成に心を砕くのです。しかもそれは、真面目くさった修業的な努力ではなく、神にある喜びを持った努力である。パウロは、それを3章で語ろうとしています。
既にパウロは、ガラテヤ人への手紙の中で、神の御霊に従う人生には、豊かな実が結ばれるとしています（ガラテヤ6:22、23）。それは、神、人、そして自分に対して実を結ぶ人生です。ことに神に対しては、愛、喜び、平安の実を結ぶ、と言います。人生の中に、神を愛し、神を喜び、神に安らぐことが起こってくるのです。
信仰を持って何が一番大きく変化するかと言えば、それは神との関係に豊かになることです。神を信じ、神のことばに日々親しみ続けていくと、神の高さ、広さ、深さに目が開かれていきます。次第に神に安らぐこと、神にあって喜ぶことが体験されるようになるのです。そうすると、これまで大事にしてきたモノやお金、名声などが色あせて見え、それらに振り回されてきた人生のばかばかしさにも気づかされるようになります。パウロは、そんなことを鼻にかけるような犬のような働き人、そして肉、つまり自分の努力や外的な事柄に頼るような教師は偽教師だから気をつけなさい。人生振り回され、破滅させられるだけだ、と言います。
5節、「私は生まれて八日目に割礼を受け、イスラエル民族、ベニヤミン部族の出身、ヘブル人の中のヘブル人、律法についてはパリサイ人…しかし、私は自分にとって得であったこのようなすべてのものを、キリストのゆえに損と思うようになりました。それらはちりあくただと考えている」と。学歴、職業、経歴、業績、家柄などを誇る人生など全く空しい、と言います。目に見えない神の祝福に満たされることの素晴らしさに悟りを得よ！と言うわけです。
2．完成を目指す（3:10-21）
そしてパウロは言います。「私は、すでに得たのでもなく、既に完全にされているのでもありません。ただ捉えようとして追及している」ほう、クリスチャンというのは、悟りきった人生を歩んで、どこか物事を超越していますね、素晴らしいですね、というわけではないのです。まだまだ掴み始めたばかりだとパウロは言うのです。これをしっかり自分のものとしたいとパウロは言うのです。ですからパウロは、「ただ一つの事、すなわち、後ろのものを忘れ、前のものに向かって身を伸ばし、キリスト・イエスにあって神が上に召してくださっているという、その賞をいただくために、目標を目指して走っているのです」と言うのです。大切なのは、やはり、自分自身の信仰者としての現実をしっかり見つめ、自分の状態をよく理解することでしょう。ある意味で他人の信仰などどうでもよいのです。まず自分自身が成長することです。
クリスチャンは、この地上の住人でありながら天に国籍を持つ者です。この地上で、人々が夢中になるようなものとは違うものの価値に気づいている人です。神の愛、恵み、祝福といったものをリアルに感じながら生きている人です。「半分棺桶に足を突っ込んで生きている」という言い方がありますが、それをもじって言えば「半分天国に足を突っ込んで生きている」のがクリスチャンです。卑しい、弱い心と体が、神に変えられて、イエスの栄光に輝く姿と同じようにされる希望を持って生きている人です。

Philippians 3: Leading to true spiritual blessing
1. To cast off the dust (3:1-9)
For the Church to become the Church, the maturity of each individual’s faith is essential. Every member of the Church must be aware of the perfection of his salvation. Moreover, it is not a serious, disciplined effort, but a joyful effort in God. This is what Paul wants to tell us in chapter 3.
Already in his letter to the Galatians, Paul says that a life in obedience to the Spirit of God will bear abundant fruit (Galatians 6:22, 23). It is a life that bears fruit for God, for others and for oneself. Especially to God, he says, it bears fruit of love, joy and peace. In our lives we will love God, rejoice in God and rest in God.
The greatest change that comes from faith is that you are enriched in your relationship with God. As we believe in God and continue to familiarise ourselves daily with His Word, our eyes are opened to the height, breadth and depth of God. Gradually you will experience rest in God and rejoice in Him. Then the things, money and fame that we have cherished until now will seem to fade away and we will realise the absurdity of our lives being driven by these things. Paul said, “Beware of dogmatic workers who look down their noses at such things, and of teachers who rely on the flesh, that is, on their own efforts and on external things, for they are false teachers. He says, “You will only be swept away and ruined in life.
Verse 5: “I was circumcised the eighth day after I was born, and I am of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew among Hebrews, a Pharisee in the law… But all these things which were good to me I now count as loss for the sake of Christ. I count them as dust,” he said. A life of pride in one’s education, profession, career, achievements and family background is utterly empty, he says. Realise how wonderful it is to be filled with the blessings of the invisible God,” he says! That is why he says: “Realise how wonderful it is to be filled with the blessings of God whom you cannot see!
2. Strive for perfection (3:10-21)
Then Paul says, “I have already obtained it. I have not already obtained it, nor have I already been perfected. I’m only striving to reach it”. The Christian is not a person who has lived an enlightened life and is somehow transcendent, wonderful and so on. We are just beginning to grasp it, Paul says. He wants to make it his own. So Paul says, “I press on towards the goal, forgetting what lies behind and reaching out for what lies ahead, I press on towards the prize for which God has called me in Christ Jesus. The important thing would be to take a hard look at your own reality as a believer and understand your own condition well. In a sense, it does not matter what other people believe. You have to grow first.
A Christian has a heavenly nationality, even though he is an earthly resident. He is a person who realises the value of something different from what people are preoccupied with here on earth. He lives with a true sense of God’s love, grace and blessing. A Christian is “half a foot in heaven”, to paraphrase the saying, “half a foot in a coffin”. He is a person who lives with the hope that his lowly, frail mind and body will be transformed by God and conformed to the glorious image of Jesus.
