1．もう一度チャレンジする（8:1-2）
前の章で、イスラエルの人々はアイの町との戦いに敗れました。しかし、その原因は軍隊の弱さではありませんでした。アカンという一人の人物が神さまの命令に背いたことが理由です。神さまは、民全体に責任があるとされました。つまり、信仰は「一人だけのもの」ではなく、「みんなで守るもの」だということです。
それでも、神さまは悔い改めた人々に、もう一度チャンスを与えてくださいます。「恐れるな。おののくな。…今度はアイの王とその民をあなたの手に渡した」（8:1）という言葉に注目してください。「渡した」とは、まだ戦いが始まっていないのに、すでに勝利を与えたと神さまが言っているのです。これは「預言的完了形」と呼ばれます。神さまの目には、すでに勝利が見えているのです。信仰とは、「きっと起こると願うこと」ではなく、「すでに起こった」と信じて前に進むことなのです。
この考え方は新約聖書にも見られます。ペテロはイエスさまを三度否定しましたが、イエスさまは彼に「わたしの羊を飼いなさい」と三度語りかけ、回復されました（ヨハネ21章）。神さまは、失敗した人を見捨てません。私たちもキリストを信じることで、もう一度歩き出すことができるのです（ガラテヤ3:13、ローマ8:1）。
2．神さまの作戦と、みんなの従順（8:3–23）
ヨシュアは、神さまの命令に従い、再びアイの町に向かいました。今回は、神さまが作戦を教えてくださったのです。
・伏兵（ふくへい）を配置する（8:2）
・正面から攻めるふりをする（8:5）
・神さまが指示されたタイミングで動く（8:18）
ヨシュアと民は、神さまの言葉に「みんなで」従いました。「ヨシュアと全イスラエルは、主が命じられたとおりに行った」（8:27）とある通りです。信仰とは、自分の考えで動くことではありません。神さまの言葉に「はい」と応えて従うことなのです。
3．勝利は神さまから来る（8:24–35）
戦いの後、ヨシュアは戦勝パレードをするのではなく、祭壇（さいだん）を築きました。これは、勝利を自分たちの力だと誇るのではなく、神さまに感謝するためです。詩篇127篇には「主が家を建てるのでなければ、建てる者の働きはむなしい…主は愛する者に眠りを与えてくださる」と書かれています。また、伝道者の書9章11節にも「戦いは勇士のものではない…すべての人が時と機会に出会うからだ」とあります。
つまり、勝利は人間の力ではなく、神さまが与えてくださる「タイミング」と「導き」によるのです。
4．神の言葉に立ち返る（8:33）
ヨシュアは、モーセが命じたとおりに行動しました。祭壇を自然の石で作り（申命記27:5–6）、律法（神の教え）を書き写し、民をゲリジム山とエバル山に分けて、祝福と呪いの言葉を読み上げました。これは単なる儀式ではありません。「私たちは神の言葉に従って生きる民です」と、みんなで確認する時間だったのです。

・心にとめる
・互いに語り合う
・共に従う
これが、神の民の生き方です。
5．今を生きる私たちへ
現代では、信仰が「個人的なもの」になりすぎているかもしれません。コロナの影響で、ZoomやYouTubeで礼拝することが増え、教会に集まる意味が少しずつ薄れてきているようにも感じます。聖書にはこう書かれています。「鉄は鉄によって研がれる。人はその友によって研がれる」（箴言27:17）信仰は、神さまと自分だけの関係では深まりません。人との関わりの中で、励まし合い、助け合い、共に成長していくのです。
神さまは、私たちの信仰を育てるために、時には「ちょっと面倒だな」と思うような人間関係も与えてくださいます。それは、誰も取り残されず、みんなで天の御国を目指すためです。信仰には、「私」と「私たち」の両方が大切です。そして、信仰は知識だけでなく、「関係」の中で育つのです。
おわりに
ヨシュア記8章は、「やり直しの信仰」の物語です。しかし、それは一人の回復の話ではありません。みんなで神さまに従い、もう一度歩き出す物語です。今日も、神の言葉に立ち返り、共に歩む一日となりますように。「あなた」と「あなたの教会」に、神さまの祝福が豊かにありますように。それでは、また明日お会いしましょう。

Ai and the Faith to Begin Again
1. A Second Chance (8:1–2)
In the last chapter, the Israelites lost the battle against the city of Ai.
But it was not because their army was weak.
It was because one man, Achan, disobeyed God.
God held the whole community responsible.
This shows us that faith is not only personal—it is something we live together.
But God gives second chances to those who repent.
He said to Joshua:
“Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged… I have given the king of Ai into your hands.” (8:1)
Look at the words “have given.”
The battle had not started yet, but God spoke as if the victory had already happened.
This is called the “prophetic perfect.”
In God’s eyes, the victory was already done.
Faith is not just hoping something will happen.
Faith is walking forward as if it already has.
This idea is also in the New Testament.
Peter denied Jesus three times.
But Jesus gave him a second chance and said three times, “Feed my sheep” (John 21).
God does not leave behind those who fail.
Through Jesus, we can begin again (Galatians 3:13; Romans 8:1).
2. God’s Plan and the People’s Obedience (8:3–23)
Joshua followed God’s command and went to fight Ai again.
This time, God gave him a clear plan:
Set an ambush (8:2)
Pretend to attack from the front (8:5)
Move at the right time (8:18)
Joshua and all the people obeyed together.
The Bible says:
“Joshua and all Israel did as the Lord had commanded” (8:27)
Faith is not doing what we think is best.
Faith is saying “yes” to God’s Word and following it.
3. Victory Comes from God (8:24–35)
After the battle, Joshua did not hold a parade.
Instead, he built an altar.
He did not take credit for the victory.
He gave thanks to God.
Psalm 127 says:
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain… He gives sleep to those He loves.”
Ecclesiastes 9:11 also says:
“The battle is not to the strong… but time and chance happen to them all.”
Victory does not come from human strength.
It comes from God’s timing and guidance.
4. Returning to God’s Word (8:33)
Joshua did what Moses had commanded long ago.
He built the altar with natural stones (Deuteronomy 27:5–6).
He wrote down God’s law.
He divided the people into two groups—one on Mount Gerizim and one on Mount Ebal.
Then they read the blessings and curses out loud.
This was not just a ceremony.
It was a moment to say together:
“We are God’s people. We will live by His Word.”
Read God’s Word
Keep it in your heart
Talk about it with others
Obey it together
This is how God’s people live.
5. For Us Today
Today, faith can feel very personal and private.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people got used to online worship.
But some have forgotten the importance of gathering in church.
The Bible says:
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)
Faith does not grow in isolation.
It grows in relationships—with God and with others.
God sometimes gives us difficult people to help us grow.
He wants no one left behind.
He wants us to walk together toward His kingdom.
Faith needs both “me” and “we.”
It is not just knowledge—it grows in community.
Final Words
Joshua 8 is a story of second chances.
But it is not just about one person.
It is about a whole community obeying God and walking forward together.
Today, may we return to God’s Word.
