聖書解釈の原則は、オリジナルリーダー（最初の読者）がこれをどう読んだかをまず理解することにあります。だいたいは、シリーズもののテレビ番組を見ると、この続きがいかに…と、翌週が待ち遠しいということがあるものです。実は、聖書もそういう部分があるのです。創世記で語られた神の万人に対する祝福の計画が、ここで今ストップしそうになっている。イスラエル人は、カナンで繁栄し祝福されるどころか、エジプトで奴隷になり、過酷な労働を強いられ、生まれた男の子は殺すように命じられるなど、消滅の危機にすらさらされていたのです。ああっ…神がアブラハムに祝福すると約束したことは、これまでか…というハラハラドキドキの心境があるわけです。
1．守られた子モーセ（2:1-10）
レビ人の家に、男の子が与えられました。昨日もお話しましたが、イスラエル人に生まれた男の子は、皆、ファラオの命じるところに従ってナイル川に投げ込まれなくてはなりませんでした。しかし、この母親にはそれができなかったのです。隠し続けて三カ月目、もはやこれ以上は難しいとなり、ナイル川に子どもを捨てる覚悟を決めます。ただ、この母親、悲観的にも、ヒステリックにもならず、捨てられた子どもが生き延びる方法を考えたのです。パピルス製のかごを用意し、瀝青の樹脂を塗って防水を施し、もともと神がお造りになったナイル川へと、つまり神の恵みの御手に子を手放したのでした（ヘブル11:23）。
そこに、水浴びの習慣によるものであったかもしれませんが、ファラオの娘が水浴びをしようとナイルに下りてきました。ここに見えざる神の御手があった、と言うべきでしょう。神は、水浴びに来たファラオの娘に、このかごを発見させました。そしてこれら一部始終を見守っていた姉の機転によって、子どもは再び母親の下へと返されます。やがて神の器となるその子の命は守られ、さらに、母ヨケベテは、子どもを育てるお金すら与えられているのです。そして、王女によって、モーセと名付けられたその子は、神を畏れる母の一貫した価値観のもとで幼少期を過ごした後、エジプトの最高の教育を授けられ、まさにイスラエルを解放する神の器として整えられていくのです（使徒7:22）。モーセは、「引き出す」を意味します。水から引き出されたモーセは、エジプトからイスラエルを引き出す者となっていくというわけです。
このような箇所を読むと、やはり、物事を諦めてはならない、最後まで可能性を考えるべきだと思わされます。事実、この天地万物と、その世界に住まう一人ひとりをお造りになり支配しておられる神を信じるのですから。もはや絞っても、一滴も出ないという手ぬぐいをさらに絞るかのように、知恵を絞ることでしょう（笑）。
2．モーセの結婚
こうしてモーセは大人になり（11節）、続いてモーセが40歳の頃のエピソードが記録されています（使徒7:23）。モーセは、神の器として着々と整えられていましたが、モーセの時はまだ来ていませんでした。ただモーセは、この時点で、同朋の苦役を見ながら、なんとかすべきだと考え、イスラエル人を虐待するエジプト人を打ち殺してしまいます。イスラエルを助けたいという思いは、神のみこころに重なってはいても、その行動は神の願うものではなかったのです。
ともあれモーセがエジプト人を撃ち殺したことは、ファラオに知られることになりました。そしてモーセは、ファラオを恐れ、逃れていきます。そしてミデヤンの地に辿り着きました。このようにモーセが逃げ延びることができたのも、神の守りがあった、と考えるべきでしょう。神はさらに40年、モーセを匿い続け、モーセを荒野で偉大な指導者として整え続けていきます。そして神もまた、時を待っておられました。しばしば物事がスムーズに進まず、待たされる思いになるのは、人間ばかりではありません。神もちょうどよいタイミングを待っておられるのです。
23節、「エジプトの王が死んだ」とあります。機会がやってきました。何をどうしてよいのか全く分からない状況にあったイスラエルの叫び声が神に届きました。そして、24節「神はアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブとの契約を思い起こされた」とあります。もはやここまでか、と思いきや、明日に続く、と言うわけです。出エジプト記を何度も繰り返し読んでいる、読者からすれば、最初の読者が感じていたハラハラドキドキ感は薄いかもしれません。しかし私たちも自分の個人的な問題については、神は、どうされるのか、とハラハラドキドキ感を持って、祈る日々ということはあるのです。神が彼らにどうされるのか、続けて読んでまいりましょう。

Chapter 2: The Birth and Marriage of Moses
The principle of biblical interpretation is to first understand how the original reader (first reader) read this. Usually, when we watch a series of TV programs, we can hardly wait for the next week to see what happens next. In fact, the Bible is like that. God’s plan of blessing for all people, spoken of in Genesis, is about to come to a halt here. Instead of being prosperous and blessed in Canaan, the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt, forced to do hard labor, and even threatened with extinction as they were ordered to kill any baby boy born to them. Ahhh…so much for God’s promise to Abraham to bless him….
- the protected child Moses (2:1-10)
A boy was given to the house of the Levites. As I mentioned yesterday, every boy born to the Israelites had to be thrown into the Nile River according to Pharaoh’s command. But this mother could not do it. After three months of hiding, she decided that it would be too difficult and she was ready to abandon her child in the Nile. However, this mother was not pessimistic or hysterical, but instead thought of a way for her abandoned child to survive. She prepared a basket made of papyrus, waterproofed it with bitumen resin, and gave it up to the Nile River, which God had originally created, that is, to the hand of God’s grace (Hebrews 11:23).
There, as may have been the custom of bathing, Pharaoh’s daughter came down to the Nile to bathe. Here was the invisible hand of God, we should say. God made Pharaoh’s daughter discover this basket as she came to bathe. The child is returned to its mother again, thanks to the quick thinking of its older sister, who was watching the whole thing. The life of the child, who would eventually become God’s vessel, is preserved, and the mother, Jochebede, is even given money to raise the child. And the child, named Moses by the princess, after spending his childhood under the consistent values of his God-fearing mother, is given the best education in Egypt and is truly prepared as a vessel of God to liberate Israel (Acts 7:22). Moses means “to draw out.” So Moses, who was drawn out of the water, would be the one to draw Israel out of Egypt.
Passages like this remind us that we should not give up on things, and that we should consider possibilities to the very end. In fact, we must believe in God who created and controls heaven, earth, and all things, and each and every one of us who inhabit this world. We should squeeze our wisdom as if we were squeezing a hand towel that no longer produces even a drop (laughs). - Moses’ Marriage
Thus Moses became an adult (v. 11), followed by the episode recorded when Moses was 40 years old (Acts 7:23). Moses was steadily being prepared as God’s instrument, but his time had not yet come. However, at this point, Moses, while watching his fellow countrymen suffer, decided that he should do something about it and struck down an Egyptian who was mistreating the Israelites. Although his desire to help Israel overlapped with God’s will, his actions were not what God wanted.
Anyway, Moses’ shooting of the Egyptians became known to Pharaoh. Moses then fled, fearing Pharaoh. And he arrived at the land of Midian. We should consider the fact that Moses was able to escape in this way because of God’s protection. God continued to shelter Moses for another 40 years, preparing him to be a great leader in the wilderness. And God, too, was waiting for the right time. It is not only humans who often feel like they have to wait for things to go smoothly. God is also waiting for the right time.
Verse 23 says, “The king of Egypt is dead. The opportunity has come. The cries of Israel, who had no idea what to do, reached God. Then verse 24 says, “God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. So much for the end of the story, and so on into tomorrow, you might say. For readers who have read Exodus over and over again, we may not feel the same sense of urgency that the first readers felt. But we, too, have days when we pray about our personal problems, wondering what God will do about them. Let us continue to read what God will do to them.
