1．黙示録とのつながり（1:1-25）
まず、開口一番に、聖書は言います。「初めに神が天と地を創造した」万物の源となる神が紹介されています。先の黙示録で読んだように、歴史を始め、それを終わらせる神の存在が語られています。神がおられなかったら、この地球はもちろんのこと、あなたも私も、何も存在はしなかった。すべての始まりは神にある、というわけです。
さて、創世記も、黙示録と同じで、その最初の部分は、人類が経験していないことを伝えています。著者は、その情報をどこから得たのか。黙示録の場合、著者ヨハネは、それをイエスの啓示によるものであったと告白しています。しかし創世記の場合は、よくわからないのです。それは、長い過程を経て、伝えられてきたものですが、通読とは別の機会にお話してまいりたいと思います。ともあれ、ここで注目したいのは、創世記の最初の物語は、いささか文学的、技巧的、つまり記憶しやすい構造的な書き方になっている点です。
地球の始まりについて、神学者は様々な説を唱えています。書かれたことを文字通りに受け止め、人間の歴史を6000年程度に見るヤングアース理論、比ゆ的に受け止め、現代の科学的な推定年数つまり、60億から130億という年代に調和させて読むオールドアース創造論、さらには進化論を科学的事実として受け入れ且つ聖書の記述と調和を図る神導進化論等、様々です。しかし、聖書に地球の始まりについての科学的な関心はありません。まして科学的にそれを説明しようとする意図も全くありません。それは科学的説明と対立することも意図していません。ですから神学的諸説は、あくまでも参考程度に過ぎないと私は考えています。
むしろ大切なのは、記憶を助ける形で書かれたこれらの文書が、何を伝えているかです。「初めに神が天と地を創造した」というのは、世界も人類も永遠ではなく、ただ神だけが永遠だということでしょう。そしてすべてはこの神と共に始まったのです。神が動き出したがゆえに、物事が動き出したのです。そして神は、この天地を非常に良いものとしてお造りになった。そこにはたとえ人間の目には不可解で、恐ろしくもあるようなことがあろうとも、神はこれを良いものとしてお造りになったのです。またそこには、今の私たちには理解しにくいある一定のプロセスがありました。しかしそのことへの疑問や探求は小脇に抱えておくべきものです。この世界を神は良いものに造られて、それを人間に任された、だから、人間は、この世界を大事にしなければならないということでしょう。今流行りのことばで言えばSDGs（持続可能な開発目標）を考えるのも当然で、SDGsの理論的基礎すら示唆しているのです。
なお、創造のプロセスで注目すべきは、各創造日ごとに、創造行為→機能の付与→確認という、同じパターンが繰り返されている点です。神はただやみくもにモノを創ってはおられない。しっかりそれぞれに機能を与えて、それを確認しながら創造の秩序を形作られた。そして、これらを全体によいものとし、祝福しているのです。
2．創造される神（1:26-31）
ともあれ、聖書が語る進化論ならぬ創造論の重要さは、私たちに生きる意味を与えることです。今日科学は多いに発展し、もはや核物質や遺伝子が操作できる時代になりました。この創世記が書かれた時代とは比べ物にならない高度な科学文明の時代です。しかし、他方、原発事故を始め、それらがもたらす副作用を制御しきれない危うい現実にも直面しているのです。いずれ遺伝子操作の問題もメディアの中心となる時代が来るでしょう。この先人類はどうなるのか、と不安を感じておられる方々も多いことでしょう。しかし、そうであればこそ、今こそ、すべての根源に、目的をもってこの世界をお造りになられた神を認め、神が良いものとされたこの世界を守っていく、という素朴なあり方に戻っていくことが大切ではないかと私は思うのです。
26節、神は、人をご自身のかたちに似せて造られたと言います。既に新約聖書を通読して、神は、愛と正義と聖さに満ちたお方であることを学びました。その神が、ご自分と心を交わすことができる人間をお造りになり、世界の統治を任せられた、と言うわけです。
この地球上のあらゆるものは、力のある一部の者に任されているのではありません。私たち一人一人に与えられたものです。神は、この地球に住む、全ての人を信頼し、ご自身の富を、皆の益となるように用いていくことを期待されているのです。

- Genesis 1: The Beginning of Creation
Today we will begin reading through the Old Testament. It is scheduled to take about two and a half years to complete the reading, advancing one chapter a day. If you have already finished reading the New Testament in the 6th cycle, let’s keep up the momentum and read through the New Testament. If you have stumbled along the way, let’s start anew from the moment you think of it. Continue reading the Bible while taking interruptions. The Bible will gradually become more interesting. We hope you will encourage yourself with this channel. - connection with Revelation (1:1-25)
First of all, at the very outset, the Bible says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” introducing God as the source of all things. As we read earlier in Revelation, we are told of the presence of God who begins history and ends it. Without God, this earth, as well as you and I, would not exist, and nothing would exist. So it all began with God.
Now, Genesis, like Revelation, tells us that the first part of the book tells us something that mankind has not experienced. Where did the author get that information? In the case of Revelation, the author John confesses that it was by the revelation of Jesus. But in the case of Genesis, it is not clear. It is a long process that has been handed down, but I would like to talk about it another time, separate from the reading through. At any rate, it is important to note here that the first story in Genesis is written in a somewhat literary and technical, or easy-to-remember, structural manner.
Theologians offer a variety of theories about the beginning of the earth. There is the Young Earth Theory, which takes what is written literally and puts the history of man at about 6,000 years; the Old Earth Creation Theory, which takes it figuratively and reconciles it with modern scientific estimates of 6 to 13 billion years; and the Theistic Evolution Theory, which accepts evolution as a scientific fact and reconciles it with the biblical account. However, the Bible has no scientific interest in the beginning of the earth. Nor is it intended to explain it scientifically. Nor is it intended to conflict with scientific explanations. Therefore, I think that theological theories are for just reference only.
Rather, what is important is what these documents, written in a manner that aids memory, tell us. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” would mean that neither the world nor humanity is eternal, only God is eternal. And everything began with this God. Because God set things in motion, things were set in motion. And God created this heaven and earth as something very good. God made it good, even though it may seem incomprehensible and frightening to the human eye. There was also a certain process that is difficult for us to understand today. But we should keep our doubts and quests aside. God made this world good and entrusted it to human beings, so we must take care of it. It is natural to consider the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in today’s fashionable language, and even the theoretical basis for the SDGs is suggested.
What is noteworthy about the creation process is that the same pattern is repeated for each creation date: act of creation, assignment of function, and confirmation. God does not just create things blindly. He gave each of them a function, and then He formed the order of creation by confirming the function of each of them. Then, He makes them good as a whole and blesses them. - God Who Creates (1:26-31)
At any rate, the importance of creationism, not evolution as the Bible tells us, is that it gives us meaning in life. Today, science has advanced so much that we can now manipulate nuclear materials and genes. We live in an age of advanced scientific civilization that cannot be compared to the age in which this book of Genesis was written. However, on the other hand, we are also facing the dangerous reality that we cannot control the side effects of these materials, such as the nuclear power plant accident. The issue of genetic manipulation will eventually become the center of the media. Many of you are probably wondering what will happen to the human race in the future. However, if this is the case, I believe it is important to return to a simple attitude of recognizing God, who created this world with a purpose at the root of all things, and to protect this world that God has made good.
Verse 26 says that God made in His own image. We have already learned from reading through the New Testament that God is full of love, justice, and holiness. God created human beings who could commune with Him and entrusted them with the governance of the world.
Everything on this earth is not entrusted to a few powerful people. It is given to each one of us. God trusts everyone on this earth and expects us to use our wealth for the benefit of all.
