皆さんは「怒り」や「孤独」を感じたことがありますか。士師記15章には、そうした感情を抱えた一人の人物、サムソンの物語が描かれています。彼の行動は、最初は個人的な問題から始まりましたが、やがて民族同士の争いへと発展していきます。その中で、神がどのように働かれるのかが語られています。この物語を通して、私たちは次のようなことを考えることができます。個人の問題が社会全体に影響を及ぼすこと、孤独なリーダーが抱える苦しみ、そして神の助けがどのように現れるかという点です。
2．怒りが争いを生む：サムソンの行動
サムソンはかつての妻を訪ねましたが、彼女はすでに他の男性と結婚していました。サムソンは怒りを感じ、その怒りをペリシテ人全体に向けます。彼はジャッカルを300匹捕まえ、その尾にたいまつを結びつけて麦畑に放ちました。これは、サムソンの力と工夫を示す行動です。しかし、この出来事に対して、ペリシテ人はサムソンの元妻とその父親を焼き殺しました。サムソンもさらに報復し、争いはますます激しくなっていきます。
当時、ユダヤ人たちはペリシテ人の支配下にあり、争いを避けたいと考えていました。そのため、彼らはサムソンを縛り、ペリシテ人に引き渡そうとします。この場面から、個人の怒りがどれほど大きな影響を持つかがわかります。
3．神の助けとサムソンの勝利
サムソンは「ナジル人」として、神に特別にささげられた人物でした。彼は一人でペリシテ人に立ち向かい、ろばのあご骨を使って千人を打ち倒します。この「ろばのあご骨」は、普通は戦いに使う武器ではありません。神は、そのような予想外の道具を通して、驚くべき勝利を与えられたのです。この戦いの後、サムソンはイスラエルの指導者（士師）として認められ、20年間イスラエルを治めました。その間、ペリシテ人は手出しができませんでした。
4．孤独なリーダーと神の寄り添い
サムソンの20年間の統治については、他の士師（ギデオンやエフタ）のような詳しい記録は残っていません。しかし、彼の存在自体がペリシテ人への抑止力となっていたと考えられます。
リーダーの立場は、しばしば孤独を伴います。サムソンも民から理解されず、一人で戦う場面が多くありました。それでも、神はその孤独の中でサムソンに寄り添ってくださいました。
サムソンが渇きを覚えたとき、神は「エン・ハ・コレ（呼ばわる者の泉）」を与えました。これは、祈る者に応えてくださる神の象徴です。私たちの日常にも、神の恵みは注がれています。

サムソンの物語は、次のことを教えてくれます。

Judges 15 – Samson’s Revenge
— God works through even our anger and weakness —
1. Introduction: What Samson’s Story Tells Us
Have you ever felt angry or alone?
Judges chapter 15 tells the story of a man named Samson who experienced both. What began as a personal issue soon grew into a national conflict. And in the middle of it all, God was at work.
Through this story, we’re invited to reflect on three things:
How personal struggles can affect the wider community
The loneliness that leaders often carry
And how God’s help can appear in unexpected ways
2. When Anger Sparks Conflict
Samson went to visit his former wife, only to find that she had married someone else. Hurt and furious, he didn’t just blame her—he turned his anger toward the entire Philistine people.
In a dramatic act, he caught 300 foxes (or jackals), tied torches to their tails, and released them into the Philistines’ grain fields. It was bold, creative—and destructive.
The Philistines retaliated by burning Samson’s former wife and her father. Samson struck back again. What started as a personal matter quickly escalated into a cycle of revenge between two nations.
At the time, the Israelites were under Philistine rule and wanted to avoid conflict. So they tied up Samson and handed him over. This moment shows how one person’s anger can ripple out and affect an entire community.
3. God’s Help and an Unlikely Victory
Samson was a Nazirite—someone specially dedicated to God.
When the Philistines came for him, he stood alone. But with God’s help, he picked up the jawbone of a donkey—an object no one would consider a weapon—and defeated a thousand men.
This wasn’t just a show of strength. It was a reminder that God can use even the most unexpected tools to bring about victory.
After this, Samson became a recognized leader in Israel and judged the nation for 20 years. During that time, the Philistines dared not attack.
4. A Lonely Leader and a God Who Listens
Unlike other judges like Gideon or Jephthah, we don’t have detailed records of Samson’s leadership. But his presence alone seems to have kept the Philistines at bay.
Leadership can be lonely. Samson often stood alone, misunderstood by his own people. Yet even in that loneliness, God was near.
When Samson was exhausted and thirsty, he cried out to God. And God answered by providing a spring—called En Hakkore, “the spring of the one who calls.”
It’s a beautiful picture: God hears those who cry out to Him. And He responds.
5. What This Story Means for Us
Samson’s story teaches us:
Personal emotions like anger can impact more than just ourselves
Even lonely leaders are not beyond God’s help
God’s grace is present in our everyday lives
You may be facing challenges in your home, workplace, or church. You may feel alone or overwhelmed. But just like Samson, you can call out to God.
