1．モーセの最後の言葉（31:1-8）
モーセは120歳になり、自分の死が近いことを知っていました。そこで、イスラエルの人々に向けて最後のメッセージを伝えます。その中で、モーセが最も大切にした言葉があります。それは、「主ご自身が、あなたとともにおられる」（31:3、6、8）という約束です。
この言葉は、単なる「がんばれ」という励ましではありません。「あなたがどこへ行っても、神さまは必ず一緒にいてくださる」という神さまからの約束なのです。さらに、モーセは「神が先に行って待っていてくださる」とも語りました。
つまり、どんなに未来が不安でも、神さまはその道をすでに知っていて、前もって準備してくださるのです。神さまは決して私たちを「見放さない」「見捨てない」（31:6, 8）と約束されています。この約束は新約聖書でも繰り返されており、イエスさまも「わたしは、世の終わりまで、いつもあなたがたとともにいる」（マタイ28:20）と言われました。
このように、「神が共にいる」というテーマは、聖書全体を通して変わらない、とても大切な真理なのです。
2．神のことばを忘れない仕組み（31:9〜13）
モーセはもう一つ大切なことを教えました。それは、「神の教えをみんなで何度も聞くこと」の大切さです。イスラエルの人々は、7年に1度、仮庵の祭というお祭りで、みんなが集まって律法（神の教え）を聞くように命じられていました。
なぜなら、人は忘れやすいからです。しかし、何度も聞いて繰り返すことで、神のことばが心に残るようになります。そして、その教えは子どもたちにも伝わっていきます。
つまり、モーセは「神のことばは特別な人だけのものではなく、みんなのものだ」と伝えたかったのです。だからこそ、教会での聖書朗読や家庭での信仰教育は、今の私たちにとってもとても大切なことなのです。
3．ヨシュアの就任と、試練への備え（31:14〜23）
モーセの後を継ぐリーダーはヨシュアです。しかし、神さまはヨシュアに対して、厳しい現実を告げます。「この民（イスラエルの人々）は、きっとわたしに背を向けるだろう」と言われたのです。最初からがっかりするような話に思えますが、神さまは「だからあきらめなさい」とは言いませんでした。
むしろ、「だからこそ、忠実に仕えなさい」と励まされたのです。現代の私たちも、教会や家庭、社会の中で思い通りにならない現実に直面することがあります。しかし、そんなときこそ、「神が先に行っておられる」という約束を思い出したいものです。
4．歌に込められた神のことば（31:24〜30）
さらに神さまは、モーセに「この歌を教えなさい」と命じました。なぜなら、人は文字よりも歌のほうが覚えやすいからです。この「モーセの歌」（32章に登場します）は、イスラエルの人々が将来、神さまから離れてしまったときにも、「思い出せるように」と神さまが残されたメッセージです。
この歌には、神の恵みを忘れた民の姿（5-18節）、神の怒りと裁き（19-25節）、イスラエルに敵対する者への報復（26-35節）、そして最終的な回復（36-46節）が歌われています。つまり、神のことばは「忘れそうなときに、もう一度思い出せるように」「やり直したいとき、もう一度立ち返るために」私たちに与えられているのです。

Deuteronomy 31: “The Lord Himself Is With You”
1. Moses’ Final Encouragement (Verses 1–8)
Moses was 120 years old. He knew his time on earth was almost over. So, he gave one last message to the people of Israel.
The most important part of his message was this:
“The Lord Himself will go ahead of you. He will never leave you or forget you.” (verses 3, 6, 8)
This was not just a kind word—it was a promise from God. Even if Moses could not go with them into the new land, God would be with them—and even go before them to prepare the way.
In the New Testament, Jesus says the same:
“I am with you always, to the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:20)
God’s presence never changes. Whether in the time of Moses or today, He is with His people.
2. Reading God’s Word Together (Verses 9–13)
Moses also told the people that every seven years, during the special Feast of Booths, they should gather to listen to the Law being read.
This wasn’t just a tradition. It was a way to remember God’s words and renew their faith.
God’s Word is not only for leaders or teachers. It is for everyone—men, women, children, even visitors from other places. In verse 13, Moses says, “Teach it to the children so they will learn to respect God.”
This teaches us today that reading the Bible at church, at home, and with family is very important.
3. Joshua Becomes the New Leader (Verses 14–23)
Joshua was chosen to lead after Moses. But God also told him something very hard:
“One day the people will turn away from Me.”
This was sad to hear. But God did not say, “Give up.” He said, “Be strong. I am with you.”
Even when life is difficult, even when people make mistakes, God remembers the work of His servants (see Hebrews 6:10). If we trust Him, He helps us keep going.
4. A Song to Help People Remember (Verses 24–30)
God gave Moses a special song to teach the people. Why a song? Because songs are easy to remember.
This song reminded them of:
How they forgot God’s kindness,
How they would face hard consequences,
But also, how God would forgive and bring them back.
This song, found in chapter 32, is like a “memory helper” from God. It was a way to call people back to God when they lost their way.
A Simple Summary for Today
God goes before you. You don’t walk alone.
God’s Word needs to be remembered and shared, especially with the next generation.
Even leaders face hard moments—but God never forgets them.
Songs, stories, and God’s Word help us remember who God is and how much He loves us.
Let’s walk today trusting this promise:
“The Lord Himself is with you.”
