1．第四の幻、サタンの告発
第四の幻は、裁判の幻です。大祭司ヨシュアが、主の法廷に立たされている。そしてサタンが大祭司ヨシュアを告発しているのです。もしここで、神が、サタンの声に耳を傾けていたのなら、大祭司ヨシュアの運命はヨブと同じものとなったのかもしれません（ヨブ記2章）。しかし、神は、先手を打って、サタンが口を開く前に、サタンを戒めるのです。
神は二つのことを申されました。まず大祭司ヨシュアは選ばれた者であると言います。神は、ご自身が愛する者に、サタンが余計な口出しをすることを許されませんでした。さらに神はヨシュアが「火から取り出した燃えさし」であると言います（2節）。どういう意味でしょう。これを当時の祭儀的な儀式に関係づけて考えてみると、火から取り出した燃えさしというのは、祭儀的な火を絶やさないため、あるいは、別の場所に火を移すために使われるものです。つまり、ヨシュアは、バビロンで絶えることなく燃やされていたイスラエルの信仰を、エルサレムに移植する大切な火種、つまり燃えさしのようなものだということでしょう。エルサレム再建をイスラエルに約束し、その強い意志を持った神は、このような大切な使命を持った者に関わり、その使命を妨げてはならない、と機先を制したのです。
2．ヨシュアに与えられた使命
3節、フォーカスは、サタンからヨシュアに向けられます。ヨシュアは、汚れた服を着ていました。大祭司として、その職務に立つには、全くふさわしくない姿であったのでしょう。これを象徴的に解釈して、ヨシュアがふさわしくない妻たちをめとっていたとか、異教の国バビロンにいたので、異教の汚れに染まっていたと理解する説もありますが、単純に、意識、姿勢すべてにおいて神の高く聖い使命を担うには不十分であった、ことを物語っていると言えます。そのヨシュアは、汚れた服を脱がされ、新しい礼服を着せられ、頭にはターバンをかぶらせられています。神は、ヨシュアに神の家を治めさせるため、ヨシュアに必要なものをすべて備え、整えられるのです。
大事な点です。人は、やがて必ず神の法廷の前に立つ時を迎えます。人には死と死後の裁きは定められた運命なのです。その時には、サタンもまた、神の前に出て、あなたの罪を告発するでしょう。しかし、恐れることはありません。神は先手を打って、イエスにある十字架の罪の赦しを宣言され、サタンの口を封じられるのです。さらに、神の御国に入るには全くふさわしくない、全く足りない私たちに、その御国に入るにふさわしい、礼服ときよいターバンを与えてくださいます。つまり、罪に汚れた私たちの恥を覆うため、白い義の衣を着せて、神の友として迎えてくださるのです（コロサイ3:9、10）。これは、やがて来たる天においてだけのことではなく、今この時もそうなのです。キリスト者として生きるにふさわしい力と性質を、神は与えてくださいます。
8節「わたしのしもべ」「若枝」、そして9節「ヨシュアの前に置いた石」はいずれもイエス・キリストのことを語っており、メシヤ預言となっています。９節、「七」は、聖書では完全数ですから、「七つの目」は、完全な監視と配慮を、「文字を彫る」は、イエスの苦難を意味しています。つまりここは、「一日のうちに、わたしはその地の咎を取り除く」という、イエスの十字架による完全な罪の赦し、いわばキリスト教の専門用語で言う「贖罪」の預言となっています。預言者イザヤによって語られたイエスの十字架の苦難とその意味を解き明かす、「苦難のしもべ」の預言（53章）に通じる内容です。神が語られる時に、しっかりとその意味を受け止め、神のことばに信頼する者でありたいところです。では今日も良き一日となるよう祈ります。

Zechariah 3: Do Not Be Afraid of Satan’s Accusations
1. fourth vision, satan’s accusation
The fourth vision is that of a trial. Joshua the high priest is standing before the court of the Lord. And Satan is accusing Joshua the High Priest. If God had listened to Satan’s voice here, the fate of Joshua the high priest might have been the same as Job’s (Job 2). But God is preemptive, warning Satan before he can open his mouth.
God said two things. First, He says that Joshua the High Priest is the chosen one. God did not allow Satan to interfere with the one whom He loved. Furthermore, God says that Joshua is “a cinders out of the fire” (v. 2). What does this mean? If we consider this in relation to the rituals of the time, a cinder taken from the fire is used to keep the ritual fire going or to transfer the fire to another place. In other words, Joshua would be an important spark, or cinders, to transplant Israel’s faith, which had been burning unceasingly in Babylon, to Jerusalem. God, who promised Israel the rebuilding of Jerusalem and had such a strong will to do so, took the initiative to get involved with a person who had such an important mission and must not interfere with that mission.
2. the mission given to Joshua
In verse 3, the focus turns from Satan to Joshua. Joshua was dressed in filthy garments. As the high priest, he must have looked totally unbecoming of the office he was to assume. Some have interpreted this symbolically to mean that Joshua had taken an unworthy wife, or that he was in the pagan land of Babylon and was therefore tainted with pagan uncleanness. Joshua is taken out of his soiled clothes, given a new ceremonial robe, and a turban is placed on his head. God provides and equips Joshua with everything he needs in order for him to rule over the house of God.
An important point. Man will surely eventually come to a time when he will stand before the court of God. Death and judgment after death are predestined for man. At that time, Satan will also come before God to accuse you of your sins. But do not be afraid. God will preemptively declare the forgiveness of sins of the cross in Jesus and shut Satan’s mouth. Furthermore, He will give us, who are totally unworthy and totally lacking to enter the Kingdom of God, the wedding clothes and a good turban that will make us worthy to enter that Kingdom. In other words, He will clothe us in white robes of righteousness to cover our sin-stained shame and receive us as His friends (Colossians 3:9, 10). This is not only true in the heaven that will soon come, but also in the here and now. God gives us the power and character to live as Christians.
Verse 8, “my servant,” “the young branch,” and verse 9, “the stone set before Joshua,” all speak of Jesus Christ and are Messianic prophecies; verse 9, “seven” is a perfect number in the Bible, so “seven eyes” refers to perfect oversight and care, and “carving letters” refers to Jesus’ suffering. The “engraving of the letters” refers to Jesus’ suffering. In other words, here is a prophecy of “in one day I will take away the iniquity of the land,” the complete forgiveness of sins through the cross of Jesus, or, in Christian jargon, the Atonement. It is similar to the prophecy of the Suffering Servant (Chapter 53), which reveals the suffering of Jesus on the cross and its meaning as told by the prophet Isaiah. When God speaks to us, we need to take in the meaning of what He says and trust in His Word. I pray that you will have a good day today.
