1．夫に愛されていながら姦通している
1節「干しぶどうの菓子」とありますが、それはアシェラの偶像崇拝の祭儀に使われたものです。ですから、「夫に愛されていながら姦通している」それはちょうど、神に愛されていながら偶像崇拝をしているイスラエルと同じだ、と言っているわけです。
信仰がこのような夫婦の関係に例えられていることに、驚く思いをする方もおられるのではないでしょうか。信仰は、神社仏閣へ行って、手を合わせて祈る行為。それによってご利益が期待できる行為。あるいは今日の運勢、あるいは今年の運勢を教えてもらえる程度のもの、深入りして神がかりになってはならないもの、良識をもって付き合うべきものと多くの人は考えているのではないでしょうか。しかし、それが、まるで夫婦のように契りを結ぶ関係として語られている。そして、神が、私たちのことを深く求め、私たちもその神の愛に応えるべきものとして語られている。それはびっくりだと思うのは、おそらく、神を人格的な存在として知ろうとしないためなのか、と思われます。神は、神社仏閣に鎮座し、願い事を聞くような便利屋ではありません。神もまた、心を持ち、聖さを持ち、また義しさを愛するお方、私たちが語り掛ければ、耳を傾け、共に考え、共に生きようとしてくださるお方です。私たちは神をそのようには考えてこなかった、としても神は、私たちを愛し、私たちを慕い、私たちに祝福を注ごうとしておられる方であることを覚えたいものです。
2節、ホセアは「銀十五シェケルと、大麦一ホメルと大麦一レテクで彼女を買い取り」とあります。これは、当時の奴隷一人の値段であったとされます。恐らく、ゴメルは、姦淫の罪を重ねる内に、苦界（くがい）に身を沈めてしまったのでしょう。彼女は、死ぬまで売られた遊女として生きる他なかったのです。さもなければ、誰かがあわれみをもって彼女のためにお金を出して、買い取り救い出すかでした。神の愛に生きるホセアは、行って彼女を買い取り、家に連れ帰って言うのです。「これから長く、私のところにとどまりなさい。もう姦淫をしたり、ほかの男と通じたりしてはいけない。私も、あなたにとどまろう。」とりあえずお前は私の妻だった人だから、その苦界からは救い出してあげるし、家にも住まわせてあげるが、それだけだ、というものではありません。もう過去のことは忘れて、新しくやり直そう、これからずっと一緒だ、私はあなたを愛する、と言うのです。
2．主とそのすばらしさにおののく
4節「王もなく、首長もなく」というのは、イスラエルが国家としての主権を失ったことを意味します。また、「いけにえも、石の柱もない」は、イスラエルが神殿を失ったことを、「エポデも、テラフィムもなく」は、イスラエルが神との関係を失ったことを意味します。つまり、ゴメルが奴隷とされたように、イスラエルも、やがて国と神殿を失い捕囚の民とさせられてしまうことを預言しています。
しかしそのような事態から、再び神は、イスラエルを買い戻して、建て直す決意を表明しています。このあたりは、かなり後の時代のこと、ちょうどエレミヤやエゼキエルの預言が重ねられる、つまりバビロン捕囚からの解放が暗示されています。大切なのは、未来に起こることを語っているといよりも、ホセアのゴメルに対する愛の決意に注目することでしょう。それは、神のイスラエルに対する愛の決意そのものなのです。
そして5節「主とそのすばらしさにおののく」ことです。確かに、ホセアの心を動かし、ゴメルを苦界から救い出した神の業、そして、実際に、そこから立ち直らせていく神の素晴らしい業があるのです。あなたもどん底にいると肩の力を落としていてはなりません。必ずあなたを助けてくださる神がおられることを信じましょう。では今日も良き一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 3: Hosea Buys Back His Wife
1. she is adulterous, even though her husband loves her
Verse 1 says “dried grape cakes,” which were used in the idolatrous rituals of Asherah. Thus, “her husband loves her, but she commits adultery,” which is just like Israel, who is loved by God, but commits idolatry.
Some may be surprised that faith is compared to this kind of relationship between husband and wife. Faith is the act of going to a shrine or temple, putting one’s hands together and praying. It is the act of praying with one’s hands together and expecting to receive benefits from it. Many people may think that faith is something to the extent of being told one’s fortune for the day or for the year, something that one should not get too deeply involved in and become a god, and something that should be done with good sense. But it is spoken of as a covenantal relationship, as if we were a married couple. And God is spoken of as something that deeply desires us and that we should respond to his love for us. I find that surprising, perhaps because we do not try to know God as a personal being. God is not a handyman who sits in a shrine or temple and listens to our wishes. God is also one who has a heart and loves holiness and righteousness, one who listens, thinks with us, and wants to live with us when we speak to Him. We may not have thought of God that way, but we should remember that He is the one who loves us, adores us, and wants to pour out His blessings on us.
In verse 2, Hosea “bought her for fifteen shekels of silver, a homer of barley, and a leptek of barley. This was the price of one slave at the time. Probably, Gomer had sunk into a world of torment as she repeated the sin of adultery. She had no choice but to live as a prostitute until her death. Otherwise, someone would have had mercy on her and paid for her, bought her, and rescued her. Hosea, who lived in the love of God, went and bought her and brought her home and said, “Stay with me a long time from now. Stay with me from now on for a long time. Do not commit adultery or have relations with other men anymore. I will also remain with you. He is not saying, “I will rescue you from the world of torment because you were my wife, and I will let you live in my house, but that’s not all. He says, “Let’s forget about the past and start anew; we will be together forever, and I will love you.
2. be amazed at the Lord and his greatness
Verse 4, “without king and without chief,” means that Israel has lost its sovereignty as a nation. Also, “no sacrifice, no pillar of stone” means that Israel has lost its temple, and “no epode, no teraphim” means that Israel has lost its relationship with God. In other words, it prophesies that just as Gomer was enslaved, Israel will eventually lose its nation and temple and be taken into captivity.
But out of such an eventuality, God again expresses His determination to buy Israel back and rebuild it. These words imply a much later time period, just as the prophecies of Jeremiah and Ezekiel are superimposed, i.e., deliverance from the Babylonian captivity. The important thing to note is not so much that it is speaking of something that will happen in the future, but rather the determination of Hosea’s love for Gomer. It is the very determination of God’s love for Israel.
And verse 5: “Behold the Lord and his wonderfulness. Indeed, it is God’s work that moved Hosea’s heart and delivered Gomer from the bitter world, and indeed, God’s wonderful work in bringing him back from it. Don’t let your shoulders drop when you are at rock bottom, too. Believe that there is a God who will surely help you. I pray that you have a good day today.
