26章 幕屋の作成上の規定
1．幕屋のための四つの幕の製作（26:1-14）
26章は、イスラエルの宗教祭儀の中心である「幕屋」を作る手順について記録します。幕屋が作られるのは、イスラエルの民が神と直接的に結びつく場とするためでした。つまり神の臨在を象徴する特別な場所なのです。そこで幕屋は「聖所」とも呼ばれました。
まず四つの幕を作るように指示されています。幕屋全体を四重に覆うのです。下からケルビムの幕、やぎの毛による幕、雄羊の皮の幕、じゅごんの皮の幕となっています。最下層のケルビムの幕は、大変手の込んだ造りになっています。「撚り糸で織った亜麻布、青、紫、緋色の撚り糸を用い、意匠を凝らして、それにケルビムを織り出」（1節）し、同じ幕を10枚作り縫い合わせる、大変手間をかけたものでした。
刺繍は祈りである、と言います。一針一針に、持ち主の祝福を願って祈りを込めて縫い上げていくのです。幕屋は、神がイスラエルの民と共に住まわれるところです。となれば、その神の住まいのために心を尽くし、一針一針祈りを持って場所を備えていくのもよく理解できます。
神にお会いできる場を備えるというのは、そのようなことです。会堂を建てることもそうですが、週毎に礼拝の場を備えていくことも同じです。聖日の備え日に、会堂を掃き清め、教会員や新来会者を迎える体制を整え、説教のみならず礼拝のプログラム全体の流れをシミュレーションしながら、神を礼拝する時の準備をする。一つひとつの奉仕と準備を、祈りつつ、心を込めてしていくのです。
なお、一番上に重ねられる幕は、防水性のあるじゅごんの皮が用いられました。あまり見栄えのよいものではなく、ケルビムの幕の美しさを覆ってしまうものです。ですからそれは、イエス・キリストの人格の象徴であるとも言われます。イエスは人となって世に来られ（ヨハネ1:14）、見栄えもしない罪人としての人生を歩まれ（イザヤ53：2）、多くの人々に拒絶されましたが、その内には、たしかに神の愛と恵みが満ちていたというわけです。
2．幕屋の骨組み、構造（26:15-37）
15節からは、幕屋の骨格についての説明です。材料に用いられるアカシア材は、新改訳2017が訳すように伝統的に「板」であると考えられてきました。しかしこれを「枠」とする説もあります。板であるとすると、せっかく、青、紫、緋色の撚り糸でケルビムを浮き織にする素敵な垂れ幕を作りながら、それが見えなくなるからです。外側もやぎやじゅごんの皮の幕を被せるのですから、せっかくの労作がまったく見えません。そこでケルビムの織物は、板の内側に張られたと考える学者もいます。しかしそれではアカシア材にわざわざ金を被せる必要もないでしょう。幅が一キュビト半、つまり約67センチの「板」もどう考えるか問題です。実際そのような幅の木材を調達できたのだろうかと考えられています。そこで、その幅は、縦長長方形の枠の横幅と理解するわけです。こうして金の枠であれば、浮き織のケルビムも見えて、幕屋の内側はさぞ洒落た空間であったと考えられます。
ともあれエジプトの奴隷で、レンガ造りに明け暮れていたイスラエル人たちに、なぜこのような技巧を極めた幕屋を作りえたのか、またどのようにしてこれらの材料を調達しえたのか、非常に不思議です。ただ、神に不可能はありません。神は、彼らに必要なものをすべて備えられたと考えるわけです。実際、神の働きはそのようなものです。人間が一生懸命努力した部分もあるとしても、よくよく振り返ってみれば、すべては備えられて働きが勧められたという現実もあるのです。
また祈りは重要ですが、祈っているだけで物事は形を成していくわけではありません。神は、「織り出さなければならない」（1節）「つなぎ合わせなければならない」（3節）と言われました。つまり、すべては神の備えによるものとは言っても、実際には与えられたものを生かすべく、知恵を尽くし、力を尽くし、意を尽くして、具体的に手足を動かす努力も必要なのです。主のために、しっかり手足を動かす者とならせていただきましょう。

Chapter 26: Provisions for Making the Tabernacle

Chapter 26 records the procedure for making the Tabernacle, the center of Israel’s religious rituals. The Tabernacle was to be a place where the Israelites could connect directly with God. In other words, it is a special place that symbolizes the presence of God. Therefore, the Tabernacle was also called “the Holy of Holies.
First, we are instructed to make four curtains. The entire Tabernacle was to be covered with four layers. From the bottom to the top: the curtain of cherubim, the curtain of goat’s hair, the curtain of ram’s skins, and the curtain of Jugong’s skins. The lowest layer, the curtain of cherubim, is a very elaborate construction. It is made of flax cloth woven with twisted thread, blue, purple, and scarlet twisted thread, with elaborate designs and cherubim woven into it” (v. 1), and ten identical curtains were made and sewn together.
Embroidery is a prayer, they say. Each stitch is sewn with a prayer for the blessing of its owner. The Tabernacle is the place where God dwells with the people of Israel. If this is the case, it is understandable that we prepare the place for God’s dwelling place with all our hearts and with each stitch and prayer.
This is what it means to prepare a place where we can meet God. The same is true of building a synagogue, and the same is true of preparing a place for worship on a weekly basis. On the day of preparation for the Holy Days, we prepare for the time to worship God by sweeping the synagogue, preparing a system to welcome church members and newcomers, and simulating not only the sermon but also the entire worship program. Each service and preparation is done prayerfully and wholeheartedly.
In addition, the curtain that is layered at the top was made of waterproof Jugong skin. It is not very presentable and covers the beauty of the curtain of cherubim. Therefore, it is said to be a symbol of the personality of Jesus Christ. Jesus came into the world as a man (John 1:14), lived a life of unglamorous sin (Isaiah 53:2), and was rejected by many, but within Him was indeed the love and grace of God. - the framework and structure of the Tabernacle (26:15-37)
Starting from verse 15, the framework of the Tabernacle is explained. The acacia wood used for the material has traditionally been considered to be “planks,” as the New Revised Translation 2017 translates it. However, there is also a theory that this is a “frame. If it were a board, it would not be visible while making a nice banner with blue, purple, and scarlet twisted threads to make a floating weave of cherubim. The outside of the curtain would also be covered with a curtain of goat or rabbit skins, so all the hard work would not be visible at all. Some scholars believe that the cherubim were stretched on the inside of the board. However, there would be no need to cover the acacia wood with gold. The question is what to make of a “board” that is one and a half cubits wide, or about 67 centimeters. One wonders if it was actually possible to procure wood of such a width. So we understand its width as the width of a vertical rectangular frame. The gold frame would have allowed the floating cherubim to be seen, and the inside of the tabernacle would have been a very fashionable space.
It is a wonder how the Israelites, who were slaves in Egypt and spent most of their time making bricks, were able to build such an elaborate tabernacle and how they were able to procure these materials. But nothing is impossible with God. God provided everything they needed. In fact, that is how God works. Even though there are some areas where man has tried his best, the reality is that when we look back, everything has been provided and the work has been recommended.
Prayer is important, but it is not enough to just pray for things to take shape. God said, “You must weave them out” (v. 1) and “you must join them together” (v. 3). In other words, even though we say that everything depends on God’s provision, in reality, we also need to make efforts to move our hands and feet concretely with all our wisdom, strength, and will in order to make the best use of what we have been given. Let us be people who move our hands and feet firmly for the Lord.
