1．45章のエピソードの位置
既に昨日も述べましたが、前の44章で、エレミヤの預言は終わっています。ですからこの45章は、補足で、本来、36:1-8の後に続く内容です。その内容は、エレミヤの秘書、バルクに対する神のことばとなっています。最初は、こうしたエピソードの位置づけがさっぱり読み取れず、聖書は難しいと思うところでしょう。しかし、聖書を繰り返し丹念に読んでいると、こうしたエピソードのつながりも理解できるようになるので、ぜひ続けて読んでみてください。ゆっくりあせらず、よく理解し、記憶に留めながら読むことです。
ともあれ、エホヤキムの第四年、バルクはエレミヤのことばを口述筆記し、これを民に読み聞かせました。するとこれは王の耳に入ることになり、王の怒りを避けるために、エレミヤとバルクは身を隠さねばなりませんでした。その時のバルクの嘆きと神の応答を、この章は綴っているのです。
2．バルクの嘆きと神の応答
バルクはエレミヤの秘書として、苦しみと試練を共有してきました。バルクは、ネリヤの子で、ゼデキヤ王の宿営の長セラヤの兄弟です（51:59）。つまり彼には人脈がありましたから、彼は、兄弟を通じて、社会的に高い地位を手に入れることもできた人です。それなのに、エレミヤの秘書となって働いたために、彼の人生は台無しになり、命すら危うい状況に置かれるのです。もちろん、彼は、師のエレミヤと心を同じくしたからこそ、エレミヤに付いていったところもあったでしょうが、やはり人間ですから、いざ自分の身が危機に瀕すると、自分の愚かさを嘆かざるを得なかったわけです。
そのようなバルクに、神が語り掛けます。5節「あなたは、自分のために大きなことを求めるのか。求めるな。」と。もしかしたらバルクはエレミヤのことばを伝えることで、国民に大いなる悔い改めが起こり、国の運命が変わり、それによって自分も高い地位と名誉が得られると考えていたのかもしれません。となると彼がエレミヤに従っていたのも、結局は自分のため、と言うことです。ともあれ、彼は判断を誤った愚鈍な自分に、打ちのめされた思いになり、嘆くわけです。そんなバラクに神は、まず神の主権を理解させようとしておられます（4節）。神が、物事の成り行きのすべてを決められるお方なのだ、と。神はバルクに報いとして高い地位を与えようとすればできないわけではない。しかし、世界はバルクを中心に動いているのではなく、神の計画のもとに動いているのです。そしてたとえ神の計画が第一とは言っても、神は個々人の存在を無視されるお方ではありません。ですから神は、その時代の流れ、つまり神の御計画の遂行にあたり、神のために働いた者に、最前の配慮も約束されるのです。バルクに対してはこう言いました。5節、「わたしは、あなたが行くどこででも、あなたのいのちを戦勝品としてあなたに与える」つまり、神の裁きによって全ての肉なる者が滅ぼされるが、あなたは無事である、と言うのです。
戦乱の破壊的状況において、いのちが守られる、そして人生が繋がれていく、これに優る幸いはありません。そもそもユダ南王国という国が滅びて亡くなるのです。その国での高い地位を夢見ても何もならないでしょう。さらに神は、彼におまけの祝福を加えてくださいました。彼が神を恐れ、神に忠実であったために、彼は別の意味で長く覚えられる人になったのです。彼はエレミヤと共にエジプトに同行し、そこで彼の預言をまとめ完成させ、今日の私たちに神のことばを伝える重要な役割を担ったのです。
人は、目先で自分の幸せを考えやすいものです。人間の考える成功や勝利など近視眼的です。むしろ永遠の神の御計画に目を留めていく、そして大きなことを求めず、神が与えてくださる幸せを大事にする歩みをしてまいりたいものです。では今日も良き一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 45: The Bulk and the Deep Will of God
1. the position of the episode in chapter 45
As already mentioned yesterday, Jeremiah’s prophecy ended in the previous 44 chapters. Therefore, this chapter 45 is a supplement, essentially a follow-up to 36:1-8. The content is the word of God to Baruch, Jeremiah’s secretary. At first, you may think that the Bible is difficult to read because you have no idea where these episodes are located. However, if you read the Bible repeatedly and carefully, you will be able to understand the connections between these episodes, so please keep reading. Read the Bible slowly, without rushing, and with a good understanding and memory.
Anyway, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, Baruch dictated the words of Jeremiah and read them to the people. This came to the king’s attention, and to avoid his wrath, Jeremiah and Baruch had to hide themselves. This chapter is the story of Baruch’s lament and God’s response.
2. Baruch’s Lament and God’s Response
Baruch has shared in the suffering and trials as Jeremiah’s secretary. Baruch was the son of Neriah and brother of Seraiah, the chief of King Zedekiah’s camp (51:59). In other words, he had connections, and he was a man who could have attained a high social position through his brother. Yet, because of his work as Jeremiah’s secretary, his life is ruined and even his life is put in danger. Of course, he followed Jeremiah because he shared Jeremiah’s heart, but he was still a human being, and when his own life was in danger, he had no choice but to lament his own foolishness.
To Baruch, God speaks, v. 5: “Do you seek great things for yourselves? Do not seek.” And. Perhaps Baruch thought that by preaching Jeremiah’s words, he would bring about great repentance among the people, change the destiny of the nation, and thereby gain high status and honor for himself. If this is the case, then his following Jeremiah was ultimately for his own sake. In any case, he was devastated and grieved at his own foolishness in making the wrong decision. God wants Barak to understand God’s sovereignty (v. 4). God is the one who decides how things will turn out (v. 4). It is not that God could not give Balkh a high position as a reward if He wanted to. But the world does not revolve around Bulk; it revolves around God’s plan. And even though God’s plan is primary, God is not the One who ignores individual existence. Therefore, God also promises His foremost care to those who work for Him in the course of the times, in the execution of His plan. To Baruch He said, “Wherever you go, I will give you your life as a victory,” verse 5, saying that all flesh will be destroyed by God’s judgment, but you will be safe.
There is no greater blessing than to have one’s life preserved, and to have one’s life spanned in the midst of the devastation of war. In the first place, the southern kingdom of Judah will be destroyed and you will die. Dreaming of a high position in that country will do nothing. Furthermore, God has added an extra blessing to his life. Because he feared God and was faithful to Him, he became a man long remembered in another way. He accompanied Jeremiah to Egypt, where he compiled and completed his prophecies and played an important role in bringing God’s Word to us today.
It is easy for people to think of their own happiness in the immediate future. Human thinking of success and victory is shortsighted. Rather, we should keep our eyes on God’s eternal plan and walk in a way that values the happiness that God gives us without seeking great things. I pray that today will be another good day.
