1．21章の続き（新しい世界）
黙示録を読み終わりました。いかがでしたか。黙示録は、よくわからないと言われることが多いですが、細部に拘らず、構造を押さえ、またまとまったイメージからユダヤ的な背景を考えて読めば、それほど難しいものではありません。それは、終末の恐怖を煽るようなものではなく、人類に新しい希望があることを伝えているものです。
さて22章は、21章に続く新しい天の都について語るものです。エゼキエル書47章には、神殿から流れ出た水がいたる所でいのちを与えながら、死海に注ぐ幻が描かれています。またゼカリヤ書14:8にも、エルサレムから流れ出るいのちの水の幻が描かれています。ヨハネは、旧約時代に示された幻を取り上げ、それは成就する、そしてそこはそもそもいのちの源の場だと語っているのです。
それにしてもここに描かれた世界は不思議です。太陽も月もないのに、時が刻まれているのです。そして毎月いのちの木には実がなると語ります。しかしそれも象徴的な表現で、そこは人が癒され満たされ、いのちを楽しむことができる世界だ、と言っているのです。「水晶のように輝く、いのちの水の川（1節）」は、そこがいのちで溢れている世界であることを語っています。「もはや、のろわれるものは何もない」（3節）「もはや夜がない」（5節）。今の私たちの世とはまったく別世界です。そこで私たちは生涯をかけて信じてきた方にお目にかかるわけです。御使いは、ヨハネに「これらのことばは、信ずべきものであり、真実です」（6節）と言います。
2．結びのススメ
8－9節は、当時の状況を示していて、いわゆる天使礼拝への警告を発しています。それは魅力的でも、禁じられていて、礼拝は神にのみ献げられるものです。「封じてはなりません（10節）は、隠したままにしてはいけないという意味で、この書の預言は広く伝えられるべきことを語っています。しかも「時が近いからです」と伝道への切迫感が示唆されています。
また、このような時代であればこそ、今、明確な決断をするように迫っています。その日が来れば決断すればよい、と考える人も多いでしょう。しかし明日のことなどわからないものです。「不正を行う者」や「汚れた者」「正しい者」と「聖なる者」は、それぞれの状態のままでその日を迎えることになるのです。ですから、「正しい者」「聖なる者」はその歩みを守り抜きなさいと励まされます。
3．約束
最後にイエスの二つのことばに注目しましょう。まずは信仰者に対して、イエスは、「見よ、わたしはすぐに来る」（12節）と言います。黙示録の最初に「このことばを…守る者たちは、幸いである」（1：3）と書き、今度は、「それぞれの行いに応じて報いるために、わたしは報いを携えて来る」と語られます。つまり、ヨハネはこれまで書いてきたことは、再臨のイエスにお会いする備えをするためだと言っているのです。
特に、ここでイエスが自らを「輝く明けの明星」と語っていることに注目しましょう。報いとして明けの明星を与えると約束された教会がありました。ティアティラの教会です（2:18-29）。その教会に求められたことはキリストに向けられた愛と信仰と奉仕と忍耐です。
パウロは語りました「あなた方の間でよい働きを始められた方は、キリスト・イエスの日が来るまでにそれを完成させてくださると、私は確信しています。」（ピリピ1:6）再臨のキリストにお会いする準備をしましょう！再臨のキリストを意識して歩める人は幸いです。「来てください」とキリストの再臨を待望する祈りを共に献げましょう。
第二にイエスは、「渇く者は来なさい。いのちの水が欲しい者はただで受けなさい」（17）と語ります。これは、信者というよりは、未信者を想定しています。既にヨハネは同じイエスのことばを福音書の中で紹介しています（ヨハネ7:37）。つまり黙示録は、信者のみならず未信者もこれを読んで、新しい天における希望に悟りをえるように、書かれているのです。

Revelation 22 Entering the Kingdom of God

We have finished reading the book of Revelation. How was it? It is often said that the book of Revelation is difficult to understand, but it is not that difficult if you read it without getting hung up on the details, keeping the structure in mind, and considering the Jewish background from a coherent image. It is not a fear-mongering apocalypse, but a message that there is new hope for mankind.
Now chapter 22, which follows chapter 21, speaks of a new heavenly city. Ezekiel 47 describes a vision of water flowing out of the temple and pouring into the Dead Sea, giving life everywhere. Zechariah 14:8 also describes a vision of the waters of life flowing out of Jerusalem. John is taking a vision from Old Testament times and saying that it will be fulfilled, and that it is the place of the source of life in the first place.
The world depicted here is a strange place. There is no sun or moon, yet time is ticking. The tree of life bears fruit every month. But it is also a symbolic expression, saying that this is a world where people can be healed, fulfilled, and enjoy life. The “shining like crystal, rivers of water of life (v. 1)” speaks of a world overflowing with life. There is nothing to be cursed anymore” (v. 3) and ‘there is no more night’ (v. 5). It is a completely different world from ours today. There we meet the One we have believed in all our lives. The angel says to John, “These words are believable and true” (v. 6). - recommendation for tying the knot
Verses 8-9 are indicative of the situation at the time and issue a warning against so-called angel worship. It is forbidden, even attractive, and worship is to be offered only to God. The “sealed up” (v. 10) means that it must not remain hidden, and it speaks of the prophecy of the book that it must be widely communicated. Moreover, “for the time is near,” suggests a sense of urgency to evangelize.
It also urges us to make a clear decision now, precisely because of these times. Many people may think that they can make a decision when the day comes. But you never know what tomorrow will bring. The “unjust,” the “unclean,” the “righteous,” and the “holy” will all face that day in their own state. Therefore, the “righteous” and the “holy” are encouraged to keep their walk. - promises
Finally, let us note two words of Jesus. First, to the faithful, Jesus says, “Behold, I am coming quickly” (v. 12). At the beginning of the book of Revelation, he wrote, “Blessed are those who keep these words” (1:3), and now he says, “For I am coming with a reward for each one according to his deeds. In other words, John is saying that what he has written so far is to prepare us to meet Jesus at his second coming.
Note especially that here Jesus speaks of himself as “the shining bright star. There was a church that was promised to give the bright dawning star as a reward. It was the church in Thyatira (2:18-29). What was required of that church was love, faith, service, and perseverance toward Christ.
Paul spoke, “For I am confident of this, that he who has begun a good work among you will bring it to completion before the day of Christ Jesus comes.” (Philippians 1:6) Prepare to meet Christ in His Second Coming! Blessed are those who can walk in the consciousness of the Second Coming of Christ. Let us pray together, “Come,” as we await Christ’s second coming.
Second, Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come. If anyone wants the water of life, he shall have it for free” (17). This is intended for unbelievers rather than believers. John already introduced the same words of Jesus in his Gospel (John 7:37). The book of Revelation is written so that believers as well as unbelievers may read it and be enlightened to a new heavenly hope.
Thus, the book of Revelation begins with comfort and encouragement for Christians (chapters 4-19), then presents visions of the end (chapters 20-22), and finally speaks God’s word of blessing to all people (22:21). All the words of God that need to be spoken have been spoken. The question is how we will respond to God’s word. God’s word is truth. God bless you.
