【シーズン６】士師記6章　ギデオンの召し


1．はじめに：なぜこの章を読むのか
士師記6章は、古代イスラエルの物語ですが、現代を生きる私たちにも大切なメッセージを伝えています。テーマは「弱さの中でどう生きるか」です。不安や恐れを感じることの多い今の時代、この物語は私たちの心に深く響く内容となっています。
2．イスラエルの苦しみとミディアン人の背景
この章は、イスラエルが再び「罪→裁き→悔い改め→救い」という繰り返しの中にいる場面から始まります。イスラエルの民は神に背き、その結果、ミディアン人の支配を受けることになりました。ミディアン人はアブラハムの第二の妻ケトラの子孫であり、実はアブラハムの親族です。歴史的にも、モーセがミディアン人の娘チッポラと結婚したり、イスラエルがミディアン人によって偶像礼拝に陥ったりと、両者には深い関わりがありました。しかし今や、ミディアン人は敵となり、イスラエルの収穫物を奪い、民を飢えと恐怖に追い込んでいました。イスラエルの人々は山地の洞窟や要塞に隠れて暮らすようになり、ついに神に助けを求めることになります。
3．忘れてはならない神の恵み
このとき神は、すぐにイスラエルを助けるのではなく、まず無名の預言者を通して語りかけます。「私はあなたたちをエジプトから導き出した。にもかかわらず、あなたたちはわたしの声に従わなかった」（8節）。この言葉は、単なる罪の指摘ではありません。「神の存在や、かつて受けた恵みを忘れていないか」と問いかけているのです。イスラエルの民は、エジプトの奴隷から救い出され、圧迫する者の手から守られ、国を与えられたことを忘れていました。神はその事実を思い出させた上で、五番目の士師を立てられます。
4．弱い者に語りかける神の招き
士師ギデオンは、酒ぶねの中でこっそり麦を打つほど、恐れに支配された若者でした。神はそんな彼に「力ある勇士よ」と呼びかけますが、ギデオン自身はそう思っていませんでした。神の選びには、しばしばこのような特徴があります（1コリント1:27参照）。自分には何もできない、悪いことが起きないようにと縮こまって生きている人に対しても、「ありのままの姿で立ち向かいなさい。わたしがあなたを遣わすのだから」と神は語ります。
「情けないことを言うな」と叱るのではありませんし、「当たって砕けろ」と無理に勇気を出させるのでもありません。もし自分が無力だと感じるなら、そのまま手ぶらで出て行けばよい、と神は言われます。弱くてもかまわない、なぜなら神が共にいてくださるからです。
5．しるしを求める信仰の弱さに神は応える
ギデオンは二度、神にしるしを求めます（17節、36節）。一見すると信仰が弱いように思えますが、神はギデオンの「信じたい」という気持ちに寄り添われました。信仰とは、すべてを疑いなく信じることではなく、疑いや恐れがあっても神に近づこうとする心から始まるのです。
6．私たちへの問いかけ：「あなたが行くべきではないか」
士師記の時代には、モーセやヨシュアのような全国的なリーダーはいませんでしたが、神はギデオンにも同じように関わられました（33:15）。ギデオンは神を信じ、「主は平和だ（アドナイ・シャローム）」という名の祭壇を建てます。これは「神が共にいてくださる」という確信の表れです。聖書学者のバリー・ウェッブも、ギデオンの選びがモーセと重なることを指摘しています。どちらも強いから選ばれたのではなく、神が「共にいる」と約束されたことが重要なのです。
まとめ：今日、あなたの力で進もう
神は、恐れている私たちを責めません。むしろ、そんな私たちを用いてくださいます。「あなたのその力で行け」という言葉は、ギデオンへの言葉であると同時に、今を生きる私たちへのメッセージでもあります。
不安を抱えながらも、神の呼びかけに一歩踏み出してみること。それが信仰の始まりです。主の言葉に応える一人ひとりに、主の豊かな恵みが注がれますように。また明日お会いしましょう。
Judges Chapter 6 — God Calls the Weak to Step Forward

  1. Introduction: Why Read This Chapter?
    Judges chapter 6 is an old story from the Bible, but it still speaks to our hearts today. Its theme is this: How do we live when we feel weak? In a world full of fear and worry, this story gives hope and guidance.
  2. Israel’s Trouble and the Background of the Midianites
    Israel had turned away from God. So God let their enemies, the Midianites, take control. The Midianites were actually family—descendants of Abraham’s second wife. In history, Moses had married a woman from Midian, and Israel had even followed their idols.
    Now, the Midianites were stealing Israel’s crops and causing hunger. The people were scared and hid in mountains and caves. Finally, they cried out to God for help.
  3. God’s First Response: Remember My Goodness
    God didn’t help Israel right away. First, He sent a prophet to remind them:
    “I brought you out of Egypt, but you didn’t listen to Me” (v.8).
    This wasn’t just a warning. It was a loving reminder:
    “Do you remember the good things I’ve done for you?”
    Israel had forgotten that God had saved them, protected them, and given them a land. So God reminded them—and then He called a new leader.
  4. God Calls Someone Weak
    The new leader was Gideon. He was hiding, secretly preparing wheat so enemies wouldn’t find him. He wasn’t strong or brave. But God said to him, “You are a mighty warrior.”
    Gideon didn’t feel strong. But God didn’t ask him to be powerful.
    He said, “Go with the strength you have. I am sending you.”
    This means: “Even if you feel small and afraid, I will be with you. You don’t need to be someone else—I have chosen you as you are.”
  5. Gideon Asked for Signs—and God Answered
    Gideon wasn’t sure. He asked God for a sign not once—but twice.
    That might seem like weak faith. But God didn’t get angry.
    Instead, He met Gideon in that fear. Because faith doesn’t mean we never doubt. Faith begins when we turn toward God, even with questions.
  6. A Question for Us: Will You Go?
    In the time of Judges, there was no strong national leader like Moses or Joshua. But God still came close to Gideon—just like He came close to Moses.
    Gideon built an altar and named it “The Lord is Peace” (Adonai Shalom).
    This shows he believed: God is truly with me.
    Scholar Barry Webb says God chose Gideon not because he was strong, but because God’s presence made the difference—just like with Moses.
    Conclusion: Step Forward with Your Strength
    God doesn’t reject us when we feel afraid. He comes near to us and calls us.
    He says, “Go with the strength you have—I am sending you.”
    That message was for Gideon. And it’s also for each of us today.
    Faith begins when we take one step toward God, even with fear.
    May God’s great love guide you as you walk in faith today.
