さらに興味深いのは、個々の名前が持つ意味です。たとえば「ヨナタン」という名前には「主（神）の贈り物」という意味があります。また「メリブ・バアル」は「バアルに逆らう者」という意味です。このように、偶像に立ち向かった信仰が名前にも込められていました。つまり、名前は単なる呼び名ではなく、その人や家族の信仰を表すメッセージだったのです。
４．現代へのメッセージ
この章を通して、私たちは何を受け取ることができるでしょうか。それは「自分自身の誇りや過去の因縁を乗り越え、神の前で一つとなる」ということです。ベニヤミン族はサウル王の出身で、もともとダビデとは敵対していました。しかし、彼らはプライドを手放し、ユダ王国と共に歩む道を選びます。新約聖書のパウロも同じです。自身が「ベニヤミン族の出身」であることにとらわれず、キリストに従う者となりました。私たちも、肩書や昔のこだわりを大切にし続けるのではなく、神からの恵みこそ真の誇りであると気づくことができます。
