1．神の業としての宣教（2:1-5）
パウロは、コリント教会に起こっていた分派について、もはや、そのおかしさに気づくように期待しています。教会が、世の中の組織と同じような問題を抱えるのは矛盾しています。教会はキリストの愛に生きる共同体なのです。そこでパウロは、自分の使命が、バプテスマを授けること、信者を増やすことではなくて、福音を語ること、つまりキリストのいのちが魂に伝わることにあったと、と語っています（1:14-17）。
2章は、その繰り返しです。パウロは、ある人には、愚かだと思われるかもしれないが、難しいことは何一つ語らなかった。ただあなたに対するキリストの情熱的な愛そのものがストレートに伝わることを心がけた、と言います。福音は、キリストの深い愛に気づかされ、その愛のもとに、人間としての深い悔い改めと遜りが起こることが全てなのです。そこに、キリストのことばに従って互いに愛し合い、生きる共同体を創り出す基礎があるからです。
パウロは、コリントの人々に、福音を語った時の自分は、ベストコンディションではなかったと言います（3-4節）。パウロがこの地を訪れたのは第二回伝道旅行の時ですが（使徒17-18章）、彼はひどく落胆していました。彼は、ピリピ、テサロニケ、ベレヤ、アテネ、コリントと宣教を進めてきましたが、どの町でもパウロは抵抗を受け、留まれず、やむなくコリントに流れ着いたようなものだったからです。
そしてコリントの町は、騒がしく、堕落しきっており、本当に宣教の難しさを感じる町でした。その上パウロは、食べることにも苦労していました。後から来たシラスやテモテといった同労者と合流して、彼は心機一転、伝道を開始していますが、その矢先にユダヤ人の会堂を追い出され、ティティオ・ユストの個人宅で出直しています。なにもかもうまく進まない、そんな感じでした。
パウロは、エルサレムの最高学府を出たというのに、そのような経歴も全く役にも立たず、負け犬のような自分を思わされるばかり。心折れる状況の中で、ただひたすら「恐れないで、語り続けなさい。黙ってはいけない」という神のおことばにしがみついての宣教だったのです。実に、コリントの宣教は、パウロの能力や経験とは別のもの、つまり神の力の業として進められたのです。
大切なことでしょう。神は、人の能力や賜物を用いることは確かですが、人がその能力や賜物を誇らず、むしろ無にし、ただ神の業と栄光が現れることを願う状況に落とされて初めて用いられていくのです。これは宣教が人の誇りとならず、神の栄光の業となるためです。
2．御霊による気づき（2:6-16）
6節以降、パウロは、さらに言葉を尽くして語ります。パウロが語った福音は、キリストの十字架愛に関するものです。神がそのいのちを投げ出すほどに、人を愛するなどという話は、いまだかつて聞いたこともないお話であると言います（9節）。そして自分のことは自分以外にはわからないと同じように、神のことは神に教えていただかなければわかるはずがないのです（11節）。幸いなことに、キリストは聖霊をお遣わしになりました。その聖霊の働きで、私たちは、キリストの十字架の恵み深い愛に気づかされ、理解することができるのです（12節）。それは言葉を尽くして教えられて理解するようなものではなく、本当に神の恵みによる、聖霊の働きによる気づきです（13節）。大切なのは、理解できないものを気づく力を、主に願うことでしょう。神のもとに遜って、主の霊の働きによって、その深い慈愛に気づかせてくださいと願うことなのでしょう。それがなかったら、私たちはいつまでも世俗的な考えや行動から解放されることはないのです。
1 Corinthians 2: Wisdom known by the Spirit of God
1. Mission as God’s Work (2:1-5)
Paul expects us to no longer be aware of the strangeness of the divisions in the Corinthian church. It is contradictory for the church to have the same problems as the world’s organizations. The church is a community that lives in the love of Christ. So Paul says that his mission is not to baptize or to increase the number of believers, but to preach the gospel, that is, to communicate the life of Christ to souls (1:14-17).
Chapter 2 is a repetition of this. Paul was not talking about something difficult, foolish as it may seem to some. He says that he was simply trying to communicate the passionate love of Christ for you in a simple way. The gospel is about making you aware of Christ’s deep love for you, and this love causes deep repentance and awe for you as a human being. This is the basis for creating a community that loves and lives by the Word of Christ.
Paul tells the Corinthians that he was not in the best of health when he preached the gospel (vv. 3-4). When Paul visited the region on his second missionary journey (Ac 17-18), he was very discouraged. He had been to Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Athens, and Corinth, but in each city Paul encountered resistance and was unable to stay, so he was forced to drift to Corinth.
The city of Corinth was noisy, corrupt, and difficult for missionary work. In addition, Paul had a hard time finding food. He joined his co-workers, Silas and Timothy, who came later, and started evangelizing with a fresh start, but just then he was thrown out of the synagogue and started over in the private home of Titius Justo. Everything did not go well.
Paul was a graduate of the highest university in Jerusalem, but his background was of no use to him, and he felt like a loser. In the midst of his heartbreaking situation, he just kept on speaking: “Do not be afraid, but keep on speaking. Do not be silent.” In fact, the Corinthian mission was a missionary mission. In fact, the Corinthian mission was carried out as a work of God’s power, something other than Paul’s ability and experience.
This is important. God certainly uses the abilities and gifts of men, but only when they are put in a situation where they do not boast of their abilities and gifts, but rather reduce them to nothing and only hope that God’s work and glory will be manifested. This is so that missionary work will not be the pride of man, but the work of God’s glory.
2. Spiritual Awareness (2:6-16)
From verse 6 on, Paul speaks with more words. The gospel that Paul speaks of is the love of Christ on the cross. He says that he has never heard that God loved anyone so much that he would lay down his life for them (v. 9). And just as we cannot know ourselves unless we know ourselves, we cannot know God unless He tells us (v. 11). Fortunately, Christ has sent the Holy Spirit. It is through the work of this Holy Spirit that we come to know and understand the gracious love of the cross of Christ (v. 12).
It is not the kind of thing that is taught and understood with all our words, but it is truly a realization by the grace of God and the work of the Holy Spirit (v. 13). The important thing would be to ask the Lord for the power to realize what we do not understand. It would be to humble ourselves before God and ask Him to make us aware of His deep mercy through the work of His Spirit. Without this, we will never be free from worldly thoughts and actions.
