1．レビ族の役割（18:1-8）
イスラエルには12の部族があり、それぞれ土地を持ち、農業や商業で生活していました。しかし、レビ族だけは土地を持たず、神に仕える特別な役割を持っていました。その理由は、彼らの「相続地」は神だったからです。 レビ族は、神殿での働きに専念し、その働きで生活を支えられるように定められました。そのため、他の部族には、神殿に献げられた十分の一のささげ物が命じられたのです。
神に仕える者を共同体が支えるという仕組みは、今日の教会の在り方にもつながります。牧師は、神の言葉を伝え、人々の信仰を支える働きをします。そのため、教会は牧師の生活を支える責任を持っています（使徒6:4）。
しかし、最近の日本の教会は、経済的に厳しい状況にあります。そうであればこそ、信徒一人ひとりが意識して教会の必要を知り、経済的に支えることが重要です。自分の所属する教会を大切にし、祈り、支えてまいりましょう。
信仰は「受けるだけ」のものではなく、共に教会を築き上げるものだからです（ローマ12:4-8）。
2．真の指導者（18:9-22）
1）イスラエルは誰の言葉を聞くべきか？（9-14）
次に神は、イスラエルの人々に「占いや呪術に頼ってはいけない」と命じました。それはただ「迷信を避ける」ことを言っているのではありません。カナンの宗教に触れることで、イスラエルが神を忘れ、偶像礼拝に走る危険があったのです。実際、イスラエルは後にバアル信仰に影響され、神から離れてしまうことになりました。
今日でも、私たちは目に見えない影響を受けやすいものです。占い、スピリチュアルな考え方、SNSやニュースで流れる価値観など、様々な宗教的な情報が流れています。大切なのは、何を信じるかをしっかり見極めることです（ピリピ1:9）。聖書が語るのは、唯一まことの神を信じ、従うこと、そこに本当の平安と安定がある、ということです。
2）預言者を見分ける（15-22）
昔のイスラエルでは、神の言葉は、預言者を通して聞くことが一般的でした。しかし、本当の預言者と偽の預言者をどう見分けるのでしょうか？答えはシンプルです。「預言したことが実際に起こるかどうか」（18:21）です。もし言葉が実現しないなら、その預言者は神から送られた人ではないということです。
しかし、新約聖書では、さらに大切な視点が語られています。「モーセのような預言者」（15節）とは、イエス・キリストのことだという点です。イエス自身がこう言いました。「モーセが書いたのは私のことだ」（ヨハネ5:46）。そして、弟子のヨハネもこう語っています。「いまだかつて神を見た者はいない。父のふところにおられるひとり子の神が、神を説き明かされたのである」（ヨハネ1:18） つまり、イエスこそが神の本当の預言者であり、御心を明らかにする方だったのです。
今日、イエスの言葉を始め、神の言葉はすでに聖書としてまとめられています。そこで大切なのは、聖書を正しく教える人を見極めることです。その意味で、聖書を解き明かす牧師や教師は預言者と同じ役割を果たすと言うべきでしょう。 実際、神のことばは、未来の予告だけではなく、今の時代に対する神の意志を示すものです。信仰は、終末のことを覚えつつも、今をどう生きるかが決定的に重要なことです。ですから、ただ知識が語られるのではなく、神の価値観と、神の期待が明確に語られ、信仰者の歩みが導かれなくてはなりません。
信仰者自身についても、正しく聖書の教えに聞き従い、神の言葉を実践する歩みが大事です。聖書の教えが正しく語られること、そして、語られた教えにしっかり従っていくことです。そのような教会に主の祝福が満ち溢れますように。では、また明日。
Deuteronomy 18: Who Should We Follow?
- The Role of the Levites (18:1-8)
Israel had 12 tribes, and most of them had land where they could farm and do business.
But the Levites were different—they did not receive land because their inheritance was God Himself.
Instead of working the land, they served in the temple, teaching the people about God and leading worship.
To support them, the other tribes gave offerings, which provided for their needs.
This system is similar to how churches support pastors today.
Pastors dedicate their lives to teaching God’s Word and leading in prayer, so churches have a responsibility to support them financially (Acts 6:4).
Today, many churches struggle with finances.
That’s why it is important for every believer to be aware of their church’s needs and support the ministry.
Faith is not only about receiving blessings—it is also about working together to build up the church (Romans 12:4-8). - True Spiritual Leadership (18:9-22)
1) Who Should Israel Listen To? (18:9-14)
God warned Israel not to trust fortune-tellers or magic.
This was not just about rejecting superstition.
The religions of Canaan could lead Israel away from God, making them worship idols instead.
This actually happened—Israel started following the false god Baal, and it caused great spiritual damage.
Even today, we face similar challenges.
Many people believe in astrology, fortune-telling, or spiritual practices that do not come from God.
Social media and news can shape our beliefs in subtle ways.
But the Bible teaches that only God deserves our trust (Philippians 1:9).
Real peace and security come from following Him alone.
2) How to Recognize a True Prophet (18:15-22)
In ancient Israel, people heard God’s Word through prophets.
But how could they tell who was a true prophet and who was false?
The Bible gives a simple test:
Did the prophet’s words come true? (Deuteronomy 18:21).
If their predictions failed, they were not sent by God.
However, in the New Testament, this prophecy takes on a new meaning.
Deuteronomy 18 speaks of a future prophet, like Moses—but who was this referring to?
Jesus Himself said:
“Moses wrote about me.” (John 5:46)
And John explains:
“No one has ever seen God, but His only Son has revealed Him.” (John 1:18)
Jesus was not just another prophet—He was the final and ultimate voice of God. - What This Means for Us Today
Today, we already have God’s Word—the Bible.
We don’t need new prophets to tell us God’s will.
The real question is: Who is teaching God’s truth faithfully?
Pastors and teachers must share God’s Word without changing it.
God’s message is not just about predicting the future—it is about guiding how we live today.
True spiritual leaders do two things:
Point clearly to the hope we have in Christ.
Teach people how to live faithfully in the present.
Faith is not just knowledge—it is about putting God’s Word into practice.
