1．み教えの目的とその価値（1-8節）
モーセはイスラエルの新しい世代に話しました。彼らは約束の地に入る準備ができています。しかし、ただ土地を手に入れるだけではなく、神の教えを守ることが大切だと、モーセは伝えました。モーセはこう言います。「この教えを守れば、あなたたちは約束の地で長く幸せに生きることができる。また、神の知恵を周りの国々に示すこともできる。（6節）」
神の教えは、ただのルールではありません。それは、イスラエルの人々が神と共に生きるための道です。神と歩むことによって、彼らは特別な民となり、神の知恵と力を世界に見せることができるのです。
モーセはバアル・ペオルの事件を例にあげます（3節）。以前、イスラエルの人々はモアブの女性に誘われ、偶像を拝んでしまいました。その結果、多くの人が滅びました。これは、「ただ教えを知るだけではなく、実際に守らないと意味がない」ことを示しています。
私たちも、神の教えを大切にしながら、毎日の生活でそれを実行することが大切です。そのような霊的な生活を送るなら、神の祝福を得、周囲の人々にも神に寄り縋って生きる素晴らしさを証しすることになります。
2．偶像礼拝をしてはいけない（9-24節）
モーセはイスラエルに強く言いました。「あなたたちは神の声を聞いたが、神の姿を見ていない。（12節）」「だから、神を何かの形にしてはいけません（15節）。」
エジプトには、たくさんの神々がいました。雄羊、ワニ、タカの頭を持つ神、太陽の神ラーなど。でも、それらはすべて、人が作ったもので、本当の力はありません。日本にも、さまざまな形の神々があります。しかし、それらも神ではなく、人が作ったものに過ぎません。イスラエルの神は、目に見えませんが、本当に力を持つ神です。この神は、イスラエルをエジプトの「鉄の炉」つまり苦しみから救い出したお方（20節）。だからこそ、イスラエルの人々は偶像ではなく、神だけに頼らなければなりません。
3．罪をおかしたとき、神のあわれみを思い出す（25-31節）
モーセは言いました。「もしあなたたちが偶像を拝み、神の契約を破るなら、滅びるでしょう。（26節）」しかし、大切なのは、たとえ罪を犯しても、神のあわれみがあるということです。「もし心を尽くし、命を尽くして神を求めるなら、神はあなたたちを捨てません。神は契約を忘れません」（31節）これはただ神が優しいと言っているのではなくて、神が契約を守るお方であることを示しているのです。
今の私たちにも、このメッセージは大切です。たとえ間違いをしても、神に戻るなら、神は私たちを受け入れてくださいます。
4．神に忠実であることの大切さ（32-40）
モーセはイスラエルに強く伝えました。「ただ神の教えを学ぶのではなく、毎日の生活の中で神と歩みなさい。」神が求めているのは、厳しいルールを守ることではなく、神との関係を大切にすることです。
私たちは弱く、時に罪を犯します。しかし、神がともにいてくださるなら、正しい道を歩むことができます。モーセはこう言います。「天地のどこに、あなたの神のような神がいるだろうか？」（39節）神は唯一の存在で、まことの力を持つお方です。だからこそ、私たちは神の偉大さを認め、神に頼りながら生きることが大切です。
5）ヨルダン東側の逃れの町（41-43）
最後に、モーセは「逃れの町」について話します（民数記35:9-15、ヨシュア20:1-9）。これは、誤って人を殺してしまった人のための避難所です。この制度は、神の正義とあわれみのバランスを示しています。
確かに罪は責任があります。しかし、意図的ではない場合、神はやり直す機会を与えてくださいます。この教えは、私たちにも大切です。神は罪を赦し、再出発のチャンスを与えてくださるのです。だからこそ、絶望せず、神の導きに信頼しながら歩むことが求められます。あなたとあなたがつながる教会に神の祝福がありますようにと祈ります。では、また明日。
Deuteronomy 4: Recognizing God and Following Him
1. The Purpose and Value of God’s Teachings (1-8)
Moses spoke to the new generation of Israelites. They were ready to enter the Promised Land. But it was not just about receiving the land—it was important to follow God’s teachings.
Moses said:
“If you keep these teachings, you will live happily in the Promised Land for a long time. You will also show God’s wisdom to other nations.” (Verse 6)
God’s teachings are not just rules. They are the way for God’s people to live with Him. By following God, the Israelites would become a special people, showing His wisdom and power to the world.
Moses reminded them about the incident at Baal-Peor (Verse 3).
At that time, the Israelites were tempted by Moabite women and worshiped idols. Because of this, many people died.
This teaches us: knowing God’s laws is not enough—we must live by them.
If we follow God’s teachings, we will receive His blessings and also show others the beauty of trusting in God.
2. Do Not Worship Idols (9-24)
Moses warned the Israelites:
“You heard God’s voice, but you did not see His form.” (Verse 12)
“Do not make any shape or image of God.” (Verse 15)
In Egypt, people worshiped many gods—a ram, a crocodile, a falcon-headed god, and the sun god Ra. But all of these were man-made.
Japan also has many gods that people shape into statues. But they, too, are not real gods—they are only human-made objects.
Israel’s God is invisible, but He is real and powerful.
God saved the Israelites from suffering in Egypt (Verse 20).
That is why they must trust only in Him, not in idols.
3. When You Sin, Remember God’s Mercy (25-31)
Moses warned them:
“If you worship idols and break God’s covenant, you will be destroyed.” (Verse 26)
But even if they fail, there is hope.
“If you seek God with all your heart and soul, He will not abandon you. He will not forget His covenant.” (Verse 31)
This is not just kindness—it is God keeping His promise.
This message is important for us today too. Even if we make mistakes, if we return to God, He will accept us.
4. The Importance of Being Faithful to God (32-40)
Moses strongly urged the Israelites:
“Do not just study God’s teachings—live with Him every day.”
God does not only ask us to follow strict rules—He wants a relationship with us.
We are weak, and sometimes we sin. But if God is with us, He will lead us in the right way. Moses said:
“Where in heaven or earth is there a God like yours?” (Verse 39)
God is the only true God, and He has the power to save. That is why we must trust Him completely and live under His grace.
5. Cities of Refuge (41-43)
Finally, Moses talked about the Cities of Refuge (Numbers 35:9-15, Joshua 20:1-9). These were places where people who accidentally killed someone could run for safety.
This law shows God’s justice and mercy.
Yes, sins have consequences. But if a person did not act intentionally, God gave them a chance to start again.
This message is also for us today. God forgives and gives second chances.
Conclusion: Walking With God Every Day
Deuteronomy 4 teaches us how to live as God’s people:
God’s teachings are not just rules—they shape our way of life (1-8).
Idolatry breaks our relationship with God (9-24).
Even if we fail, God’s mercy gives us a way back (25-31).
Being faithful means living close to God every day (32-40).
God is just and merciful—He gives second chances (41-43).
