1）契約の更新（1－11節）
モーセの回想が続きます。エジプトを脱出したイスラエルの民は、神から十戒を授かり、神との特別な契約を結びました。しかし、その約束を受けたばかりの民は、モーセがシナイ山で神と語っている間に、金の子牛を作って崇拝し、神を裏切ってしまいました。
その様子を知ったモーセは怒り、神から授かった十戒の石板を砕きました。契約は破棄されたのです。普通ならここで終わりです。しかし、神はもう一度新しい石板を用意するようモーセに命じました（1-5節）。
裏切られたにもかかわらず、神は契約を回復し、変わらぬ愛を示されたのです。
これは私たちにとって希望です。イスラエルの民は不完全でしたが、神は契約に誠実であり続けました。新約聖書でも、キリストの十字架によって、私たちへの愛と契約の誠実さがより明確に示されています（ヘブル8:6）。聖餐式は、この変わらぬ神の愛を思い出させ、確認させるためのものです。
6-9節は、文脈が中断された挿入のように思われるところです。しかも気になるのは、この箇所の記述は、民数記33:31-33と同じ内容のもの考えられるのですが、いささか食い違いのある点です。「ベエロテ・ベネ・ヤアカンからモセラに旅立った」（6節）とありますが、民数記33:30-31では、「モセロテ（モセラ）から旅立ってベネ・ヤアカンに宿営し」た、と順序が逆です。また、「アロンはそこ（モセラ）で死に、そこに葬られた」とありますが、民数記20:28と33:38では、ホル山（の頂）で死んだとされています。モセラを葬列の出発地、ホル山が埋葬地と考えることもできますが、このあたりは、聖書の伝承や地名の解釈の違いなど、今後のさらなる研究によって明らかになってくるのかもしれません。
ともあれ、著者は、主の契約に関連して、レビ族の四つの役割について語ります。①主の契約の箱を運び、②主の前に立って仕え、③御名によって祝福する（8-9節）です。そして、④民の先頭に立って進むことです（10-11節）。レビ族は、霊的な先導者でした。これは、新約に私たちの使命（1ペテロ2:9「あなたがたは王である祭司」）を思い起こさせるものがあります。私たちもまた、信仰の光を世に照らし、神と人々に仕える物として生きることが求められています。
2）主が求めておられること：心の割礼（12－22節）
神が私たちに求めていることは、表面的な信仰ではなく、心から神を愛し、従うことです。いわば「心の包皮を切り捨て」ることです（16節）。儀式的なことを言っているのではなく、心を変えていくことを言っているのです。
新約では、「真の割礼は心の中にある」（ローマ2:29）とパウロが語っています。つまり、形だけではなく、心のあり方が大切なのです。
続く17-22節では、神の愛が社会的弱者へ向けられていることが強調されます。神は、孤児や外国人を守り、公正を重んじる神です。大切なのは、この神の愛を深く味わい、また理解することです。そしてこの神に寄り縋ることを学ぶことです。そこにキリスト者の品性も自然に養われる、と言えるでしょう。
信仰による祝福は、個人の心を豊かにし、その生活に実りを得させるのみならず、さらには共同体全体に及ぶものです。申命記10:22では、「あなたの神、主はあなたを空の星のように多くされた」とあります。神の祝福とは、個人の利益ではなく、共同体全体の繁栄を意味します。
だからこそ、信仰を持つことは、自分だけのためではなく、周りの人とともに歩むものなのです。あなたの愛する共同体が、主の恵みに満ち溢れますように。ではまた明日。
Deuteronomy 10: Renewing the Covenant and Transforming the Heart
1. The Ten Commandments Given Again (Verses 1-11)
After the Israelites left Egypt, God gave them the Ten Commandments, making a special covenant with them. But soon after, while Moses was on Mount Sinai talking with God, the people betrayed God. They made a golden calf and worshiped it.
When Moses saw this, he became angry and broke the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments. It seemed like the covenant was destroyed.
But God did not reject His people. Instead, He told Moses to prepare new tablets, and He renewed the covenant (Verses 1-5).
This shows God’s mercy and His faithfulness to the promise He made to Abraham.
This same faithfulness continues in the New Testament. Through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice, God confirms His love and commitment to us (Hebrews 8:6).
The Holy Communion we celebrate today is a sign of this eternal covenant.
2. The Role of the Levites (Verses 6-11)
These verses explain the Levites’ role in carrying the Ark of the Covenant, serving before God, and blessing the people.
The Levites were spiritual leaders, guiding the Israelites in their faith. This reminds us of our role as believers today. The New Testament teaches that all believers are priests (1 Peter 2:9).
Like the Levites, we are called to be lights in this world, serving God and others through our faith.
3. What God Requires: A Transformed Heart (Verses 12-22)
God does not simply want people to follow rules. He wants a relationship with His people.
Deuteronomy 10:16 says, “Circumcise your hearts.”
This means true faith is not about outward actions, but an inner transformation.
Paul also teaches this in the New Testament: “True circumcision is of the heart” (Romans 2:29).
Faith is not just tradition, but a deep change in how we live and love God.
4. Faith in Action: Justice and Mercy (Verses 17-22)
God cares for the weak and the outsider—orphans, foreigners, and the needy. He asks us to live with justice and kindness.
This reflects Jesus’ words: “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me” (Matthew 25:40).
Faith is not about personal success, but about living differently, with love and integrity.
And when we do this, it brings blessings—not just to individuals, but to the entire community (Verse 22).
Conclusion: Faith Brings Blessing to All
God renews His covenant with His people, showing His mercy and faithfulness (Verses 1-11).

True faith is not about outward actions, but about a transformed heart (Verses 12-22).
