ある一人の赤ちゃんが守られるかどうかで、世界の歴史が大きく変わることがあります。王座を奪った女王、命を狙われた王子、そして見えない戦い―。聖書には、一人の子どもが守られることで希望がつながっていく物語が描かれています。そしてこの物語は、実はあなたの人生にも深く関わっているのです。
紀元前9世紀、イスラエルの南にあったユダ王国で王家が重大な危機に直面しました。王アハズヤが亡くなると、その母アタルヤが権力を奪い、王族の子どもたちを全員殺そうとします。なぜそのようなことが起きたのでしょうか。それは、北イスラエル王国で起こったエフーの反乱がユダにも影響を与えたからです。アタルヤは子どもたちが殺されると、自ら王座につき、自分の権力を守るためにダビデ王家を断とうとしました。
この出来事は、ダビデ王家の存続だけでなく、神が約束したメシヤ（救い主）がダビデの子孫から生まれるという希望さえも失われかねない危機でした。しかし、その中で一人の女性が勇気を出します。ヨラム王の娘エホシェバが、ダビデの子孫である赤ちゃんヨアシュをこっそりと神殿にかくまい、6年間守り育てたのです。もし彼女の行動がなければ、ダビデ王家は絶え、イエス・キリストも存在しなかったかもしれません。
この出来事は、聖書の中で「神の約束が守られた瞬間」としてとても大切に記されています。
2．サタン（悪魔）について聖書が伝えること
聖書では、サタンは神の救いの計画そのものを妨げようとする存在として描かれています。サタンは単に小さな悪事を行う存在ではなく、メシヤ（救い主）の誕生や人類の救いに向けた神の計画を止めようとしてきました。そのため、イエス・キリストがダビデの子孫から生まれることを妨げたり、イエスが生まれてからは荒野やゲッセマネの園でいろいろな誘惑を仕掛けたりして、イエスが使命を果たせないようにしたのです。
聖書は、私たちの世界にもこのような悪が存在することを伝えています。サタンや悪魔の存在について疑問を持つ人もいるかもしれませんが、聖書の著者たちはそれを現実だと考えていました（エペソ6:11,12）。イエス自身も「主よ、私たちを誘惑に陥らせず、悪から救ってください」と祈るように教えています。
アタルヤの行動の背後には、権力への執着や恐れがありました。しかし、聖書はさらにその奥に、「神の計画を壊そうとする力」が働いていたと語ります。これは私たちの時代にも深く関係がある話です。
3．ヨアシュの即位と7年の計画
さて、アタルヤが王であった7年目に、祭司エホヤダは隠されていた王子ヨアシュを王にするために動き始めます。この計画が成功したのは、ユダの近衛兵の隊長たちや一般の人々の中に神への敬いがあったからです。彼らは主との約束が王への忠誠よりも大切だと理解し、行動しました。この計画は非常に忍耐と根気が必要でしたが、現政権を倒すことだけが目的ではありませんでした。7年という長い期間をかけて、イスラエルをもう一度「神の民」として立て直す使命があったのです。
私たちもこの出来事から学ぶことがあります。つまり、教会が信仰を深め、この世界で「世の光」「地の塩」として生きるためには、みんなで力を合わせて、時間をかけて取り組むことが必要だということです。昔のユダ王国が7年間かけて本来の姿を取り戻すために戦ったように、現代のキリスト教会も本来の姿と目的を取り戻すための戦いが求められています。今こそ、イエス・キリストのいのちを伝える福音に生きる者たちが一つになり、力を合わせるときです（黙示録3:20参照）。
ただ、このような計画や働きを本当に完成させてくださるのは神ご自身です。私たちは神に願い、神の導きに従いますが、新しいものを生み出す力は神にあります。神のご計画を知り、それに従う人生を歩むことが大切です。もちろん、私たちの日々の考えや行動も重要です。しかし、神の大きな救いの目的を知ったなら、志を同じくする仲間とともに、その実現を目指して歩むことも必要だといえます。
神の存在と計画を知ったとき、同じ志を持った仲間とともに目標に向かう歩みが始まります。どうか神が私たちの理解力をさらに豊かにし、ご自身の望みや使命に生きる者としてください。また、本当の「平安」がみなさんの日々に与えられますように。今日も良い一日となることを祈っています。ではまた明日。
Season 6: 2 Kings 11 – Joash Was Rescued
Sometimes, the future of the world depends on whether one baby survives. A queen who seized the throne, a prince whose life was in danger, and an unseen battle—this is the story the Bible tells. And this story is not just ancient history; it has something to do with your life today.
Around the 9th century BC, the kingdom of Judah faced a serious crisis. After King Ahaziah died, his mother Athaliah took power and tried to kill all the royal children. Why did this happen? It was connected to a rebellion in the northern kingdom of Israel, led by Jehu. Athaliah feared losing her position, so she tried to destroy the royal family of David.
This was not only a political crisis. It was a threat to God’s promise that the Messiah—the Savior—would come from David’s family. But one woman acted bravely. Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, hid baby Joash in the temple and cared for him for six years. If she had not done this, the family line of David would have ended, and Jesus Christ might never have been born.
The Bible sees this as a key moment when God’s promise was protected.
2. What the Bible Says About Satan
The Bible describes Satan as an enemy who tries to stop God’s plan of salvation. He is not just doing small bad things here and there. He works against God’s purpose. He tried to prevent Jesus from being born as a descendant of David. Later, when Jesus came, Satan tempted Him in the wilderness and in Gethsemane to stop Him from completing His mission.
The Bible teaches that evil is real in this world. Some people doubt the existence of Satan, but the writers of the Bible believed it (Ephesians 6:11–12). Jesus Himself taught us to pray: “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Athaliah’s actions were driven by fear and desire for power. But the Bible says there was a deeper force behind it—a power trying to destroy God’s plan. This is not just an old story. It speaks to our world today.
3. Joash Becomes King – A Seven-Year Plan
In the seventh year of Athaliah’s rule, the priest Jehoiada began a plan to make Joash king. This plan worked because some leaders and people still respected God. They believed that loyalty to God was more important than loyalty to a corrupt ruler. This was not just a quick coup. It was a long, patient effort to restore Judah as God’s people.
What can we learn? Real change takes time and unity. The church today also needs to recover its true identity and mission. Like Judah fought for seven years to return to God, Christians today need to stand together and live out the gospel of Jesus Christ (Revelation 3:20).
But the power to complete this work comes from God. We pray and follow His guidance, but He is the one who makes things new. When we understand God’s great purpose, we can walk together with others who share the same hope.
