1．律法についての三重の命令
1）石に律法を刻む（1ｰ8）
イスラエルの人々が約束の地に入るとき、モーセは 大切なことを命じました。それは、神の教えをしっかりと覚えておく ということです。どうやって覚えるのでしょうか？方法は三つあります。
モーセは「大きな石を立てて、そこに神の教えを書きなさい」と言いました・この「神の教え」とは、申命記12-26章に書かれている律法 のことです。では、なぜ石に刻む必要があったのでしょう？
それは、「大切なことは目に見える形にする」 という知恵です。例えば、重要なルールは紙に書いて貼り出します。それと同じです。イスラエルの人々にとって、この石は「神の教えを忘れずに守る」ための目印だったのです。エバル山に立てられた石の板は、遠くのどこからでもはっきりとわかり、神の教えを忘れずにいる大切な工夫でした。
ただ、新約聖書において、パウロは、新しい考え方 を示しています。「本当に大切な教えは、石ではなく 人の心に刻まれる ものだ」（2コリント3:3）と言ったのです。
つまり、神の教えは ただ読むだけでなく、心でしっかり受け止めることが大切なのです。現代の私たちにとっても、聖書をただ読むのではなく、「この教えは自分の人生にどう関係しているのか？」をよく考えて、それを心でよく味わうことが大切です。
2）神の教えに従う（9､10）
次に、モーセは 「静まって聞きなさい」 と言いました。なぜ静まる必要があるのでしょう？それは、人は忙しくなると 大事なことを聞き逃してしまう からです。
たとえば、大切な話をしているのに、スマホを触っていて聞き逃してしまった、という経験はありませんか？イスラエルの人々にとっても同じです。新しい土地に入ると、いろいろな問題や忙しさが出てきます。だからこそ、神の教えをしっかり聞き、落ち着いて考える時間を持つことが大切です。
これは現代の私たちにも当てはまります。忙しい毎日の中でも、静かに聖書を読む時間を確保することは、心を落ち着けて神の導きを受け取るために、とても重要です。
申命記6章でも、「聞くこと」「従うこと」が強調されています。落ち着いてよく聞いたことを、実践していくのです。
（3）厳粛なのろい（11ｰ26）
最後に、モーセは 「山の上で祝福と呪いを宣言する」 という特別な儀式を命じました。
12の部族は 二つの山 に分かれました。
– ゲリジム山 → 祝福を宣言する部族
– エバル山 → 呪いを宣言する部族
ここで大事なのは、「祝福」と「呪い」は 選ぶことができることです。神の教えに従えば祝福を受けることができ、逆に神から離れれば呪いの道を歩むことになる――この「選択」がイスラエルの人々に突きつけられました。
この点を新約の視点から考えてみましょう。イエス・キリストは 「私たちのために呪われた者となった」（ガラテヤ3:13） と書かれています。その意味は、イエスが 「呪いをすべて引き受けた」ことで、私たちが神の祝福を受けられるようにしてくださったということです。申命記では、人々が「祝福の道」と「呪いの道」のどちらを選ぶか決めなければなりませんでした。しかし呪いを負ったイエスを受け入れることで、「祝福の道を歩むことができる」 のです。
申命記27章は「契約の更新」がテーマになっています。それは、単なる儀式ではなく、「自分がどのような生き方をするのか？」を決めることでした。私たちの信仰の歩みも同じです。「イエスの十字架の愛を知る」だけでなく、それを自分の心で受け止め、どう生きるかを考えること、そして、信仰を持って踏み出す中に、神の恵みと祝福があるのです。皆様の上に神の祝福が満ち溢れますように。ではまた明日。
Deuteronomy 27: Moses’ Third Sermon – Renewing the Covenant
1. Three Commands About God’s Law
1) Writing the Law on Stones (Verses 1-8)
When the Israelites entered the Promised Land, Moses gave them an important command: Remember God’s teachings and follow them faithfully.
But how could they ensure they wouldn’t forget? Three steps were given.
Moses said, “Set up large stones and write God’s teachings on them.”
These teachings referred to the laws found in Deuteronomy 12-26.
Why was it necessary to engrave the law on stone?
It was a way to make important truths visible.
Even today, we post important rules on walls or bulletin boards. The stone tablets acted like a public reminder, ensuring that people would always see and remember God’s instructions.
The stone tablets placed on Mount Ebal were clearly visible, making sure that every Israelite would be reminded of God’s laws.
A New Perspective in the New Testament
However, in the New Testament, Paul presents a new idea.
“The most important teachings are not written on stones, but on human hearts.” (2 Corinthians 3:3)
This means that God’s law is not just something we read—it is something we embrace in our hearts.
For us today, it is essential not only to read the Bible, but also to ask:
“How does this teaching relate to my life?”
Reflecting deeply on Scripture and applying it to daily life is how we truly receive God’s word.
2) Obeying God’s Teachings (Verses 9-10)
Moses then gave another command: “Be still and listen.”
Why was it necessary to be still?
Because people often miss important lessons when they are too busy.
For example, have you ever been talking to someone while distracted by your phone, and missed what they were saying?
The Israelites were about to enter a new land, full of challenges and distractions.
That’s why Moses emphasized the need to slow down and listen carefully to God’s instructions.
This principle applies to us as well.
In the busyness of everyday life, setting aside quiet time to read the Bible helps us focus and receive God’s guidance.
Deuteronomy 6 also teaches this:
Listen carefully. Follow God’s commands. Apply them in daily life.
3) The Seriousness of Blessings and Curses (Verses 11-26)
Finally, Moses instructed the people to hold a special ceremony on the mountains.
The 12 tribes were divided into two groups:
Mount Gerizim → The tribes that would declare blessings
Mount Ebal → The tribes that would declare curses
Blessings or Curses – A Choice to Make
The key lesson here is that blessings and curses were not random—they were based on choices.
If the Israelites followed God’s teachings, they would receive blessings.
But if they rejected God’s ways, they would experience hardship.
A New Testament Perspective
In the New Testament, this idea takes on a new meaning.
“Christ took the curse upon Himself for us.” (Galatians 3:13)
This means that Jesus accepted the full weight of the curse so that we could receive God’s blessing.
In Deuteronomy, the Israelites had to choose between the path of blessing or the path of curse.
But through Jesus, we are invited to walk in the path of blessing, because He has already taken the curse upon Himself.
Conclusion: Renewing Our Commitment to God
Deuteronomy 27 is about renewing the covenant—not just as a ceremony, but as a personal decision.
It asks a deep question: “What kind of life will I choose to live?”
The same is true for us today.
We must not only know about Jesus’ love—we must embrace it in our hearts and live it out.
Choosing faith and obedience brings God’s blessings into our lives.
