あなたは、何を信じて生きていますか？現代はさまざまな価値観が入り交じる時代です。しかし、聖書は「信じる対象を一つに定めることの大切さ」を私たちに伝えています。今回は、列王記第二17章を通してその背景や意味を考え、私たち自身の生き方を見つめ直す機会にしたいと思います。
1．最後の王ホセアとイスラエルの末期
まず登場するのは、イスラエル最後の王、ホセアです。彼は19代目の王として即位しましたが、聖書では彼について「主の目に悪であることを行ったが、前の王たちほどではなかった」と評価されています。つまり、悪いことはしたけれど、以前の王たちほど酷くはなかったという意味です。なぜこのような表現なのでしょうか。
実はこの時代、イスラエル北王国はすでにアッシリア帝国の強い影響下に置かれ、国としての力も大きく衰えていました。かつての王たちのように派手に悪事を働くほどの余力さえなかったのです。ホセアはアッシリアに従いながらも、エジプトにも助けを求めるなど、進むべき道を見失っていました。やがて、これに怒ったアッシリア王がサマリアを攻め、住民を捕虜として連行する、「アッシリア捕囚」が起こります。これは紀元前722年の出来事です。
2．滅亡の理由は信仰の破綻
聖書は、このイスラエルの滅亡を単なる政治的な敗北としてではなく、神との関係が壊れた結果だと説明しています。イスラエルの民は主なる神から離れ、偶像を拝むようになってしまいました。神は民を特別に選ばれ、祝福の器としたかったのですが、その使命を果たすことができなかったのです。そのため、神の裁きが下されたと語られています。
3．新しい住民と「混交主義」の問題
続いて、アッシリアは征服した土地に、バビロン、クテ、アワ、ハマテ、セファルワイムなど他の地域から人々を移住させます。これは異なる民族を混ぜる政策です。しかし、これらの人々はイスラエルの神を知らず、畏れることもありませんでした。そのため神は獅子を送り、彼らを襲わせます。突然の事件ですが、これは神が今もその地に主権を持っていることを示しています。
これを受けてアッシリア王は慌てて捕囚された祭司を戻し、神の礼拝の仕方を新しい住民に教えさせました。しかし住民たちは、イスラエルの神だけではなく、自分たち固有の神々も同時に礼拝し続けました。これが「宗教的混交主義」と呼ばれるものです。現代でも、「聖書も大切にするが自分の考えや他の宗教も同時に重んじたい」といった考え方はよく見られます。しかし、聖書では一貫して「主だけを恐れなさい」と強調しているのです。
4．聖書の視点と現代への問いかけ
何を信じるのかをはっきり定める、これは聖書の大切な視点です。というのも、宗教的混交主義は単に多くの神々を拝むことだけでなく、信仰を表面的なものにしてしまう危険性があるからです。聖書の神は、人に使命を与えられています。それはあなたを通して周りの人々が祝福されるという使命。宗教的混交主義は、その使命を忘れさせ、自分中心の生き方へと戻ってしまう危険を伴うのです。
信仰は単に安心感を与えるものではなく、人生の土台となるものでしょう。そして、信仰は、ただあなたが祝福されるにとどまらず、あなたを通して周りの人にも祝福をもたらすものなのです。
5．神の裁きとあわれみ
イスラエルの人々が宗教的混交主義に陥ったとき、神は一方的に厳しく裁くことはされませんでした。祭司を送り返して正しい礼拝の道を教えようとしたのです。神は、ご自身に背いたイスラエルに対してもあわれみを示し、もう一度祝福の器として用いようとされました。このような神の性質は今も変わりません。神は今も聖書を通して私たちに語りかけています。
だからこそ、私たちは主を正しく畏れ、日々の生活の中で神から与えられた使命を果たしていくことが大切です。神はあわれみ深い方であり、私たちが周囲の人々に祝福をもたらすように助けてくださいます。信じる対象を一つに定めることは、私たちの人生をより目的のあるものにします。それでは、また明日お会いしましょう。
Season 6: 2 Kings Chapter 17 – The End of Northern Israel
What do you believe in? Today, many different values exist. But the Bible teaches us the importance of choosing one thing to believe in. In this session, we will look at 2 Kings 17 and think about its meaning and how it relates to our own lives.
1. The Last King Hoshea and the End of Israel
The last king of Israel was Hoshea. He was the 19th king. The Bible says, “He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, but not like the kings before him.” This means he was bad, but not as bad as the others.
At that time, Israel was weak and under the power of Assyria. Hoshea followed Assyria but also asked Egypt for help. He did not know which way to go. The king of Assyria became angry and attacked Samaria. He took the people away as prisoners. This is called the “Assyrian Captivity,” and it happened in 722 BC.
2. The Reason for the Fall: Broken Faith
The Bible says Israel did not fall only because of politics. The real reason was that the people turned away from God. They worshipped idols. God chose them to be a special people, but they did not follow His plan. So, God judged them.
3. New People and the Problem of Mixed Religion
After the fall, Assyria brought people from other places to live in Israel. These people did not know or fear the God of Israel. So, God sent lions to attack them. This showed that God still had power in that land.
The king of Assyria sent a priest back to teach the people how to worship God. But the people still worshipped their own gods too. This is called “religious mixing.” Even today, some people say, “I believe in the Bible, but I also follow other ideas.” But the Bible says, “Fear only the Lord.”
4. What the Bible Says to Us Today
Choosing what to believe is important. Mixing religions can make faith weak. The Bible teaches that God gives us a mission: to be a blessing to others. If we mix beliefs, we may forget this mission and live only for ourselves.
Faith is not just for comfort. It is the foundation of life. And it is not only for your blessing, but also for blessing others through you.
5. God’s Judgment and Mercy
When the people mixed religions, God did not only punish them. He sent a priest to help them worship correctly. God showed mercy to Israel and wanted to use them again as His special people. God is still the same today. He speaks to us through the Bible.
So, we should fear God in the right way and live with the mission He gives us. God is kind and helps us to bless others. Choosing one thing to believe in gives our life a clear purpose.
