1989年にベルリンの壁が崩壊したことを覚えていらっしゃるでしょうか？東西に分かれていたドイツが統一され、当時は『和解』の時代が訪れるのではないかと期待が高まりました。しかし、現実はどうでしょうか。地域紛争や対立は今も続き、状況はより複雑になっています。
実は、この『分裂と対立』という問題は、近代史だけでなく、古代にも存在していました。たとえば、聖書の時代のイスラエルも、もともとは一つの国でしたが、権力争いや信仰の乱れによって南北に分裂してしまったのです。
では、聖書はこの問題についてどのような答えを示しているのでしょうか？
1．分裂したイスラエルと神の忍耐
列王記第二13章には、北王国イスラエルの王エホアハズが登場します。聖書は彼について『主の目の前に悪を行った』と記しています。つまり、神を信じず偶像崇拝を続けていたのです。普通なら、神は怒ってイスラエルを滅ぼすと思われるかもしれません。しかし、神はそうしませんでした。なぜでしょうか。
13章23節には『契約のゆえに』とあります。これは、神がアブラハムと結んだ約束を守り続けているという意味です。つまり、イスラエルが神を信じなくなっても、神は約束を破らないのです。これこそが聖書の一貫したテーマです。
2．神のビジョン：分裂から一致へ
さらに重要なのは、神の願いです。それは、分裂した二つの国が再び一つになることです。アブラハムに与えられたビジョン、すなわちイスラエルが世界の祝福の源となるという計画が根底にあります。
この計画は人間の理想ではなく、神ご自身の願いなのです。分断された人々が神のもとで和解し、一つになる――これが神の壮大な計画です。
3．人間の弱さと神の忍耐
ここで、私自身の経験を少しお話しします。私は『Hope and Faith International』（→http://internationalhf.net/）という国際ボランティア団体を運営しています。あるとき、この活動の動機について尋ねられました。『ヒューマニズムですか？布教ですか？それともお金ですか？』と。私はこう答えました。『神が人間に期待している生き方だと思うからです』と。つまり、互いに助け合い、平和を求めることは人間の本質であり、同時に神の願いでもあるのです。しかし、多くの人はこの神の壮大な計画を実感しづらいのです。
4．エリシャの死と信仰の試練
次に、預言者エリシャが死にかけている場面を見てみましょう。イスラエルの王ヨアシュがエリシャを訪ねてきて、『わが父、わが父、イスラエルの戦車と騎兵』と叫びました。
これは、エリシャが国の守りの象徴だと考えていたためです。しかし、ここには問題があります。ヨアシュは神ではなく、人に頼っていたのです。
そこでエリシャは彼を試します。弓と矢を取らせて地面を打たせたところ、ヨアシュは三度打ってやめてしまいました。するとエリシャは『もっと打てばよかったのに』と言います。これは何を意味するのでしょうか。信仰は中途半端ではなく、徹底的に求め続けるべきだ、しかも神ご自身に、ということです。イエスもルカ11章で『しつこく祈り続けなさい』と教えています。
5．偶然の奇跡と神の力
さらに興味深い出来事があります。エリシャの死後、ある人の遺体が彼の墓に投げ込まれると、その遺体がよみがえりました。これは一見、偶然のように思えます。しかし、神の力は人間の予想を超えて働くということの証しでもあります。神を信じるとは、こうした不思議な力を信じることでもあるのです。
6．まとめと現代への応用
まとめましょう。『分裂したイスラエル』の話は、現代社会にも共通しています。国同士の争いだけでなく、家庭や職場、さらにはSNSでも対立や分断が絶えません。しかし、神は諦めません。契約に基づき、人々が再び一つになることを願い続けておられます。
そして、私たちに求められているのは、『三度で終わる信仰』ではなく、『六度でも七度でもしがみつく信仰』です。困難やあきらめそうになるときは、ヨアシュの話を思い出してください。もう一度だけチャレンジしてみましょう。神に期待し、神の大きなビジョンに心を重ねて、今日も歩んでいきましょう。

Season 6: 2 Kings 13 – Just Seek God
Do you remember when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989? East and West Germany became one, and people hoped for an age of reconciliation. But what about now? Conflicts and divisions still continue, and things seem even more complicated.
This problem of “division and conflict” is not only in modern history. It was also in ancient times. For example, Israel in the Bible was once one nation, but because of power struggles and loss of faith, it split into two kingdoms.
So, what answer does the Bible give?
1. A Divided Israel and God’s Patience
In 2 Kings 13, King Jehoahaz of Israel appears. The Bible says he “did evil in the eyes of the Lord.” He did not trust God and worshiped idols. You might think God would destroy Israel. But He did not. Why? Verse 23 says, “because of His covenant.” God kept His promise to Abraham. Even when Israel stopped believing, God did not break His word. This is a key theme in the Bible.
2. God’s Vision: From Division to Unity
God’s desire is that the two kingdoms become one again. The vision given to Abraham was that Israel would bless the world. This is not a human dream but God’s plan. People divided will be reconciled under God—that is His great purpose.
3. Human Weakness and God’s Patience
Let me share something personal. I lead an international volunteer group called Hope and Faith International. Someone asked me, “Why do you do this? For humanism? For religion? For money?” I said, “Because I believe this is the life God wants for us.” Helping each other and seeking peace is human nature and God’s will. But many people do not feel this big plan of God.
4. Elisha’s Death and a Test of Faith
Later, the prophet Elisha was dying. King Joash came and cried, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!” He thought Elisha was the nation’s protection. But Joash trusted a man, not God. Elisha tested him. He told him to strike the ground with arrows. Joash struck three times and stopped. Elisha said, “You should have struck more!” This means faith should not be half-hearted. We must keep seeking God. Jesus also said in Luke 11, “Pray persistently.”
5. A Strange Miracle and God’s Power
After Elisha died, a dead man was thrown into his tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came back to life! It seems like chance, but it shows God’s power is beyond human plans. To believe in God is to trust this power.
6. Summary and Today’s Application
Israel’s division is like today’s world. Nations fight, families break, even social media is full of conflict. But God does not give up. He wants people to be one again. And He calls us to have faith that does not stop at “three times,” but keeps going—six times, seven times! When life is hard, remember Joash. Try one more time. Expect God. Join His big vision. Walk with Him today.
