1．抑えきれなかったヨセフ
ユダの身代わりの申し出と真実なことばに、ヨセフは自分を制することができませんでした。そして声をあげて泣いたのです。二度目の涙は、最初の涙とは意味が違います。43章30節に描かれた最初の涙は、弟懐かしさの涙でした。二度目の45章での涙は、感動と和解の涙です。ヨセフの涙に潤んだ目に映ったのは、自分をいたぶり、悪鬼のように商人に売り渡したユダの姿はではなく、成長し変えられたユダの姿でした。
初め、ヨセフは、自分を明かすことができませんでした。弟ベニヤミンを側に置きたいというだけで、兄弟に対しても、父に対しても心を開くことができないでいたのです。しかし、そんなヨセフの頑なさが崩れ去っていくのです。
かつてヨセフは、二番目の息子をエフライムと名づけ、主がこの苦しみの地で、自分に多くの償いをしてくださった、と告白しています。しかし、それは表面的なことで、彼は苦々しい思いのままに生き続けてきたのです。有り余る富と地位で、自分の心の問題をごまかしてきただけでした。あるお金持ちの求道者が語ってくれたことがあります。金持ちは、寂しい心、むなしい心を、金でごまかすことができるのだ、と。たとえそれが一瞬の偽りのものだとわかっていてもごまかせる、それが金持ちなのだ、と。ヨセフもそうだったのでしょう。
そのような変われないヨセフを神は強制的に変えていくのです。ヨセフの本当の幸せがこの時から始まるのです。変えられた兄弟たちと和解し、かつての父親を受け入れていき、まさに、神が償ってくださった、自分は幸せだ、と心の底から言える人生が始まっていくのです。
そしてこれが、神がアブラハムに約束された本来の祝福なのだ、と理解すべきなのでしょう。ヨセフの物語は絵画的に、アブラハムの祝福をイメージさせてくれるものです。新約聖書における放蕩息子（ルカ15:11-32）のたとえが神の愛を理解させるものであるとしたら、旧約聖書におけるヨセフの物語は、神の祝福を理解させるものです。分かり合えず、散らされ、敵対し、割かれた関係が、修復され、和解を得て一つにされる、それがヨセフの味わった真の祝福でした。それは地上における、お金、名誉、地位がもたらすいかなる祝福にも勝るものなのです。
2．元気づいた父ヤコブ
ヨセフはこの時、39歳になっていました。神は、この恵みをヨセフに、そして家族に理解させるために、多くの時間を費やされました。神は単純に物事を進められるお方ではありません。私たちには無駄と思えるような時間をかけながら、物事がわかってくる時と場を備えてくださいます。そして神は、起こりえないことを起こりうるようにしてくださるお方なのです。閉じられないものが閉じられていく。過去の出来事が本当に過去になっていく。これは神の祝福の業、奇跡の業なのです。
ヨセフは自らの正体を明らかにしました。そして兄弟たちが自分にしたことを積極的にこう言い換えています。「私をここに売ったことで、今、心を痛めたり自分を責めたりしないでください。神はあなたがたより先に私を遣わし、命を救うようにしてくださいました。」（5節、50:20）。信仰の人には、物事を神のご計画として理解する力があります。たとえそれが悪意的なものであれ、そこにも神の完璧なご計画があると信じる力があります。ヨセフは兄弟の悪意によって売られたのではなく、神に遣わされたと考えました（8節）。また神の人は、神の業がなされる目的を理解します。ヨセフは、自分がエジプトの統治者になったのは、エジプトの民が救われるだけではなく、ヤコブの家族、つまりイスラエルの民も皆救われるためであったと考えました（7節）。実際のところ、ヤコブの家族は外国人としてエジプトの地に迎えられ、自分たちの独自性を失うことなく、増え広がることができたのです。これは、やがてイスラエルをエジプトの奴隷とすることに繋がるのですが、イスラエルを国としていく、神のご計画でもあったのです。
家に戻り、息子たちの報告を受けた父ヤコブは、元気づきました。老いた者にとって嬉しいことは、失われたと思った月日が取り戻される時でしょう。神の祝福のことばは、私たちの魂を祝福するもの。ただ物質的に満たすのみならず、魂にいのちを与える祝福なのです。神のことばは真実です。神の祝福がありますように。チャンネル登録、メンバー登録よろしくお願いいたします。ではまた明日このチャンネルでお会いしましょう。
●Chapter 45 Joseph’s Repentance
- Joseph Could Not Contain It
Joseph could not control himself when Judah offered to take his place and said true words. He cried out loud. The second tears have a different meaning from the first. The first tears, described in Chapter 43, verse 30, were tears of longing for his younger brother. The second tears, in Chapter 45, are tears of emotion and reconciliation. What Joseph saw in his tearful eyes was not Judah, who had tortured him and sold him to a merchant like a demon, but Judah who had grown and changed.
At first, Joseph could not reveal himself. He just wanted his younger brother Benjamin by his side, and he could not open his heart to his brothers or his father. But Joseph’s stubbornness crumbles.
Joseph had previously named his second son Ephraim and confessed that the Lord had made a great compensation for him in this land of suffering. However, that was only on the surface, and he continued to live with bitter feelings. He had only used his abundant wealth and status to cover up the problems in his heart. A rich seeker once told me that the rich can use money to cover up lonely and empty hearts. Even if they know it’s only a momentary falsehood, they can still cover it up – that’s what being rich means. Joseph was probably like that.
God forced Joseph, who was unable to change, to change. This is when Joseph’s true happiness began. He reconciled with his changed brothers, accepted his former father, and began a life in which he could truly say from the bottom of his heart that he was happy, something that God had paid for him.
And we should understand that this is the original blessing that God promised to Abraham. The story of Joseph gives us a pictorial image of Abraham’s blessing. If the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) in the New Testament helps us understand God’s love, the story of Joseph in the Old Testament helps us understand God’s blessing. The true blessing Joseph experienced was that relationships that were scattered, hostile, and divided were repaired, reconciled, and made one. This is greater than any blessing on earth that money, honor, or status can bring. - Jacob, the father, regains his courage
Joseph was 39 years old at this time. God spent a lot of time trying to help Joseph and his family understand this blessing. God is not someone who can simply push things forward. He prepares the time and place for things to be understood, spending time that seems like a waste to us. And God is someone who makes it possible for things that cannot happen to happen. Things that cannot be closed are closed. Past events become truly past. This is the work of God’s blessing, the work of miracles.
Joseph revealed his true identity. He then positively rephrases what his brothers did to him: “Do not now be grieved or blame yourself for selling me here, for God has sent me ahead of you to save your lives” (v. 5, 50:20). A man of faith has the ability to understand things as God’s plan. Even if something is malicious, he has the ability to believe that God’s perfect plan exists. Joseph believed that he was not sold by his brothers because of their malice, but was sent by God (v. 8). A man of God also understands the purpose of God’s work. Joseph believed that he became the ruler of Egypt not only to save the Egyptian people, but also to save Jacob’s family, that is, the people of Israel (v. 7). In fact, Jacob’s family was welcomed into the land of Egypt as foreigners and was able to multiply and spread without losing their identity. This would eventually lead to Israel being made a slave to Egypt, but it was also God’s plan to make Israel a nation.
Returning home and hearing his sons’ report, Jacob, the father, felt encouraged. A joy for the elderly is when the days they thought they had lost are regained. God’s words of blessing bless our souls. They are not just materially satisfying, but they are blessings that give life to the soul. God’s words are true. May God bless you.
