１．背景
表題は「ダビデがサウルから逃れて洞窟にいた時」とあります。ダビデ逃亡中の歌が続きます。恐らく、詩篇56篇の出来事、ダビデがガテから逃げ出して間もなく、作られたものであったのでしょう（1サムエル記22章）。
ダビデは、サウルの攻撃を二つのイメージで語っています。一つは猛獣に追われているイメージ。槍と矢の歯、鋭い剣の舌で追い詰められているイメージです（4節）。そしてもう一つは、ひそかに罠を仕掛けて、獲物を待ちうける狩人のイメージです（6節）。言いようのない恐怖に襲われ、望みを失うような状況として語られます。しかし、人がそのような敵意にさらされることは、ありえないことではありません。彼はどのようにしてそのピンチを乗り切ったのか。
2．指針
印象的なことばがあります。1節「滅びが過ぎ去るまで」。ダビデは、この危機がいつまでも続くとは考えませんでした。必ず「過ぎ去る」ものと考えていました。希望が持てない時は、「いつまで」こんな状況が続くのか、と出口のない思いに苦しむものでしょう。しかし、「過ぎ去る」という見通しがあれば、後もうひと踏ん張りだと考えることもできます。
6節「彼らは私の前に穴を掘り、自分でその中に落ちました」これは、ダビデが、サウルの手から逃れようとし、たまたま隠れていたその洞穴に、サウルが用を足しに入ってきた出来事を言っているようです。サウルはじりじりダビデを追い詰めていました。しかし、「王手」という所で、サウルはダビデに予期せぬ反逆の機会を与えてしまったのです。ダビデが部下を制することがなければ、サウルはその場で殺されていたでしょう。たとえ罠がしかけられたとしても、神がお許しにならない限り、その罠が機能することもありません。むしろ、罠をしかけた敵が自らしかけた罠に陥ることがあるのです。
3．実践
人のすべての状況を支配し、正しいことを行われる神がいます。そのように考えると、いかなる敵意にさらされそうとも、恐れる必要はありません。そして敵の罠にまんまと引っかかったと思うようなことがあっても、慌てないことです。いい加減な誹謗中傷で、自分の名誉を深く傷つけられた、と思わされてもいたずらに嘆いたりしないことです。まだまだ先はあり、滅びは過ぎ去る、そして敵が自ら、仕掛けた罠に落ちると考えましょう。
使徒パウロは、語りました「私たちは四方八方から苦しめられますが、窮することはありません。途方に暮れますが、行き詰まることはありません。迫害されますが、見捨てられることはありません。倒されますが、滅びません。」（2コリント4:8,9）。確かに、神は正しい者の味方であり、正義を行われます。その確信をもって7節、「神よ、私の心は揺るぎません。私の心は揺るぎません。私は歌い、ほめ歌います」告白できる、これが信仰の成熟です。信仰はまさに望みえない時に望みを抱き、窮地にあっても、心穏やかに神を仰ぎ、神の解決を待ち望ませるものなのです。
ダビデは言います「私は暁を呼び覚ましたい」（8節）暁は、太陽が昇る前のほの暗いところ、ある意味で、最も闇の深い時です。しかし、神を信頼する者は、歌いながらその夜明けを待つのです。使徒パウロとシラスが、真夜中、神を賛美する歌を歌い、囚人たちがそれに聞き入っていたというエピソードを思い出すところです（使徒16:25）。
揺るぐことなく（7節）、神を褒めたたえ（7節）、感謝し（9節）、その栄光を待ち望む（11節）。これがほら穴に追い込まれた時の過ごし方です。ひたすら逃げることを考えながら逃げきれない絶望的な思いに翻弄されるのでもなく、また、果たせもしない復讐心に怒りで心を震わせるのでもなく、ただ、「滅びは過ぎ去る」救いの日は近づいていると神を信頼することです。たとえ今日がそうではなくても、朝があけるように確実にその日は近づいている。神の御翼の陰に身を避け、神の恵みとまことは確かであると、神をたたえながら過ごすことです（1節）。神は誠実なお方です。

Psalms 57: Avoiding the Shadow of the Wings
1. background
The title says, “When David was in the cave fleeing from Saul. The song continues with David on the run. Perhaps it was composed shortly after the events of Psalm 56, David’s escape from Gath (1 Samuel 22).
David speaks of Saul’s attack in two images. One is the image of being pursued by a fierce beast. The image is of being cornered by the teeth of spears and arrows and the tongue of a sharp sword (v. 4). The other is the image of a hunter who has secretly set a trap and is waiting for his prey (v. 6). It is described as a situation of unspeakable terror and hopelessness. But it is not impossible for a person to be subjected to such hostility. How did he overcome the pinch?
2. guidelines
There is a striking phrase: verse 1, “until the destruction pass away.” David did not believe that this crisis would last forever. He thought it would surely “pass away. When there is no hope, we suffer from a feeling of no way out, wondering “how long” this situation will continue. However, if we have the prospect of “passing away,” we can think that we have one more step to take.
Verse 6: “They dug a pit before me, and fell into it themselves.” This seems to refer to the incident in which David was trying to escape from Saul’s hand and happened to be hiding in the cave when Saul went in to relieve himself. Saul was gradually hunting David down. But at the “check” Saul gave David an unexpected opportunity to rebel. If David had not been able to control his men, Saul would have been killed on the spot. Even if a trap is set, it will not work unless God permits it. Rather, the enemy who set the trap may fall into the trap himself.
3. practice
There is a God who controls all human circumstances and does what is right. With this in mind, there is no need to fear whatever hostility we may be exposed to. And even if you feel that you have been caught in the enemy’s trap, do not panic. Do not grieve unnecessarily if you feel that your honor has been deeply damaged by a lame slander. Think that there is still a long way to go, that perdition will pass away, and that you will fall into the trap that the enemy has set for you.
The apostle Paul said, “We are afflicted on all sides, but we are not in distress. We are persecuted, but we are not abandoned. We are persecuted, but not abandoned. We will be overthrown, but we will not perish.” (2 Corinthians 4:8,9). Indeed, God is on the side of the righteous and will do justice. With this assurance, we read in verse 7, “My heart, O God, does not waver. My heart will not be shaken. I will sing and sing praises.” This is the maturity of faith. Faith is the very thing that makes us hope when we cannot hope, look to God with peace of mind in the midst of trouble, and look forward to God’s resolution.
David says, “I want to awaken the dawn” (v. 8). The dawn is the dimness before the sun rises; in a sense, it is the darkest of times. But those who trust in God await that dawn with singing. I am reminded of the episode of the apostles Paul and Silas singing songs of praise to God at midnight, and the prisoners listening to them (Acts 16:25).
Unwavering (v. 7), they praised God (v. 7), gave thanks (v. 9), and awaited his glory (v. 11). This is how to spend your time when you are trapped in a cave. Not to be tossed about with hopeless thoughts of escape, nor to be filled with anger over vengeance that cannot be taken, but to trust in God that “destruction will pass away” and that the day of salvation is near. Even if today is not the day, that day is approaching as surely as the morning dawns. We are to spend our time sheltering in the shadow of God’s wings, praising Him that His grace and His truth are sure (v. 1). God is faithful.
