2．ナオミの帰郷と深い悲しみ
ナオミは、夫と二人の息子を亡くし、とても悲しい気持ちで故郷ベツレヘムに帰ってきました。その時期は、ちょうど大麦の収穫が始まる4月ごろです。ベツレヘムは小さな町だったので、ナオミの帰りはすぐに町の人たちの話題になりました。ナオミは「私はもう『ナオミ（楽しい）』ではなく、『マラ（苦しみ）』と呼んでください」と言います。
ヨブ記でも見られるように、自分の心の痛みを隠さずに語る正直な言葉は、信仰者が苦しみの中でも真実に生きていることを示しています。ただ、ナオミのそばには、いつもルツがいました。しかし、ナオミはまだその存在の大きさに気づいていませんでした。実は、神さまはすでに新しい物語を始めておられたのです。
3．ルツの行動と神の導き
生活のために、ルツは畑に落ちた麦を拾いに出かけます。これは、当時の法律で、貧しい人や外国人にも認められていたことでした（レビ記19:9）。この仕事は、あまり良いものとは思われていませんでしたが、ルツは気にせず、まじめに働きます。そして、偶然にもナオミの親戚であるボアズの畑に行くことになりました。
しかし、これは本当に「偶然」だったのでしょうか。聖書の注解者マシュー・ヘンリーをはじめ、多くの人は「これは神さまの導きだ」と考えています。ボアズはルツの働きぶりに感心し、彼女を守り、たくさんの麦を与えました。ルツが得た麦は、なんと22リットル分にもなりました。これは、神さまの恵みのしるしだったのです。
4．「買い戻し」の制度とボアズの役割
ボアズはナオミの親戚の一人で、「買い戻しの権利」を持っていました。これは、家族が困ったときに土地や財産を取り戻すことができる制度です（レビ記25:25）。ユダヤの人々にとって、土地はとても大切なもので、簡単に手放してはいけないものでした。ナオミはこの制度を思い出し、神さまの教えに従って行動しようと考えます。この制度は、単なる経済的な助けではありません。
実は、これは「贖い（あがない）」という考え方につながっています。新約聖書では、イエス・キリストが私たちを罪から「買い戻す」お方として描かれています。
5．苦しみの中での信仰と希望
人生には、「もうだめだ」と思うような時があります。しかし、そういう時こそ、神さまは新しい道を用意してくださっています。ナオミは、土地を売ってお金にするという簡単な方法を選びませんでした。代わりに、神さまの教えに従う道を選びます。
信仰とは、気持ちだけでなく、「どう行動するか」が大切です。苦しい時でも、誠実に歩むことが、神さまの祝福につながっていきます。

ナオミとルツの物語は、私たちにこう語りかけています。「どんなに苦しい時でも、神さまはあなたを見捨てていない」と。神さまは、偶然のように見える出来事を通して、私たちを導いてくださいます。そして、神さまの教えに従うとき、そこに回復と希望の道が開かれます。今日も、神さまの導きの中で、誠実に歩んでいきましょう。
Ruth Chapter 2: What Looks Like Judgment May Be God’s Plan
1. Introduction: God’s Judgment or God’s Plan?
Sometimes, life brings pain and sadness.
We may ask, “Why is this happening?” or “Is God punishing me?”
But the Bible teaches us that hard times may be part of God’s plan.
God uses every moment to guide us.
In this chapter, we learn from Naomi and Ruth how God works in difficult times.
2. Naomi’s Return and Her Sadness
Naomi lost her husband and two sons.
She returned to her hometown, Bethlehem, feeling very sad.
It was the time of the barley harvest, around April.
Bethlehem was a small town, so people quickly heard about Naomi’s return.
She said, “Do not call me Naomi (pleasant). Call me Mara (bitter).”
Like Job in the Bible, Naomi spoke honestly about her pain.
She did not hide her feelings.
Ruth was with her, but Naomi did not yet see how special Ruth was.
God had already started a new story.
3. Ruth’s Work and God’s Guidance
To help Naomi, Ruth went to pick up leftover grain in the fields.
This was allowed by law for poor people and foreigners (Leviticus 19:9).
It was not a respected job, but Ruth worked hard without shame.
She came to the field of Boaz, a relative of Naomi.
Was this just chance? Many Bible teachers, like Matthew Henry, say it was God’s plan.
Boaz saw Ruth’s kindness and hard work.
He protected her and gave her much grain—about 22 liters!
This was a sign of God’s blessing.
4. The Law of Redemption and Boaz’s Role
Boaz had the right to help Naomi’s family.
This was called the “redemption law” (Leviticus 25:25).
If a family lost land, a close relative could buy it back.
Land was very important to Jewish families.
Naomi remembered this law and chose to follow God’s way.
This law also points to Jesus.
In the New Testament, Jesus is the one who “redeems” us from sin.
5. Faith and Hope in Hard Times
Sometimes life feels hopeless.
But God can bring new beginnings from hard times.
Naomi did not choose the easy way.
She followed God’s law and trusted His plan.
Faith is not only about feelings.
It is about doing what is right.
Even in pain, walking faithfully brings God’s blessing.

The story of Naomi and Ruth teaches us this:
Even in sadness, God is near.
He uses every moment—even things that seem like chance—to guide us.
When we follow His way, He gives us hope and healing.
