1．分裂のニュースをどう考えるか？
ニュースで「分裂」という言葉を目にしたとき、どんな印象を持つでしょうか。政党の分裂、会社の分社、人間関係の断絶など、「分裂」という出来事は現代社会でも人々に不安を与えます。しかし、聖書では意外な視点が示されています。歴代誌第二11章には、イスラエル王国が2つに分かれた出来事が描かれていますが、これは単なる政治の失敗ではありません。むしろ「神の意図があった」と聖書は伝えるのです。今回は、この分裂の背景と意味について一緒に考えていきましょう。
2．本章の構成：4つの場面から見る分裂後の動き
歴代誌第二11章は大きく4つの場面に分かれています。
1つ目は、レハブアム王が北のイスラエルを取り戻すために軍を集める場面（1節）です。しかし、神の人シェマヤによって「わたしが、こうなるように仕向けたのだ」という神のことばが語られ（4節）、戦いは止められます。
2つ目の場面では、レハブアムが防備の町を築き、国の体制を整えます（5〜12節）。
3つ目は、北王国のヤロブアム王が偶像礼拝を広め、祭司やレビ人を追い出す様子です（13〜17節）。
最後は、レハブアムの家族や内政について記録されています（18〜23節）。この4つの流れを押さえることで、歴代誌第二11章が単なる歴史の記録ではなく、神学的なメッセージを伝えていることが分かります。
3．神の主権と人間の選択
この章の中心となるポイントはどこでしょうか？3つの視点から考えてみます。
1）神の主権
1つ目は「神の主権」です。4節で「わたしが、こうなるように仕向けたのだ」という神の言葉が記されています。つまり、王国の分裂は偶然起きたのでも、人の失敗だけが原因でもなく、神が歴史を導いているという宣言です。これは捕囚から帰った読者にとって、大きな励ましになりました。たとえ国が小さくなったとしても、神の計画は進んでいるという希望を示しています。
2）礼拝の純粋さ
2つ目は「礼拝の純粋さ」です。ヤロブアム王は北の民がエルサレムに行かないようにするため、雄やぎや子牛の偶像を立て、一般の人を祭司に任命しました（15節）。その結果、心から主に従い礼拝しようとする祭司やレビ人たちは南のユダに移り住みました（16節）。歴代誌の著者は、地理的な分裂より「信仰や礼拝の純粋さ」に焦点を置いています。真心から神を礼拝する人々がユダに集まったのです。
3）人の備えと神の後押し
3つ目は「人の備えと神の後押し」です。レハブアムは分裂後、防備の町を築き、備蓄も整えました（5〜12節）。一見すると人間の戦略が目立ちますが、歴代誌は「神がその努力を支えたからこそ国が安定した」と伝えています（11:4、13、16、17節）。人の努力だけでなく、その背後には神の計画があるという視点が、この章全体を通して示されています。
4．小さな群れにある希望
この章から、私たちは何を学べるでしょうか。それは、「たとえ小さくても、主を求める人が集まるところには希望がある」ということです。歴代誌の読者も、かつての大きな栄光を失い、厳しい現実に直面していました。しかし、分裂や縮小といった出来事さえも、神の計画の一部です。人数や規模の大小は本質ではありません。現代に生きる私たちも同じです。教会や集まりが小さく見えても、社会が不安定でも、主を礼拝する群れには神の働きが始まっています。ですから、忙しさや情報の多さに流されず、時には立ち止まって神に心を向ける時間を持ちましょう。それが、あなたの人生を強くする第一歩となります。では、また明日お会いしましょう。
Season 6: 2 Chronicles 11 – Why Did Israel Split?
1. How Should We Think About News of Division?
When you see the word “division” in the news, what do you think? A political party splitting, a company breaking up, or relationships falling apart? Division often brings fear in our world today. But the Bible gives us a surprising view. In 2 Chronicles 11, the kingdom of Israel is divided into two. This was not just a political failure. The Bible says, “God had a purpose.” Today, let’s look at the background and meaning of this division.
2. The Structure of This Chapter: Four Scenes After the Split
This chapter has four main parts.
First, King Rehoboam gathers an army to take back the northern kingdom (v.1). But God’s prophet Shemaiah says, “This thing is from Me” (v.4), and the war stops.
Second, Rehoboam builds strong cities and prepares his kingdom (vv.5–12).
Third, Jeroboam, the northern king, sets up idol worship and removes priests and Levites (vv.13–17).
Finally, the chapter records Rehoboam’s family and inner politics (vv.18–23).
These four parts show that this is not only history—it carries a message about God.
3. God’s Sovereignty and Human Choice
What is the main point of this chapter? Let’s see three key ideas.
First: God’s Sovereignty.
Verse 4 says, “This thing is from Me.” The division was not an accident or only human failure. God was guiding history. For the people who returned from exile, this was hope: even if the nation was small, God’s plan was still moving forward.
Second: Pure Worship.
Jeroboam made idols of goats and calves and appointed ordinary people as priests (v.15). So, priests and Levites who wanted to worship God moved to Judah (v.16). The writer focuses on faith and worship, not just geography. True worshipers gathered in Judah.
Third: Human Effort and God’s Support.
Rehoboam built cities and stored supplies (vv.5–12). It looks like human strategy, but verses 13–17 show that God blessed these efforts. The kingdom became strong because God helped. This chapter teaches us: human work matters, but God’s plan is behind it all.
4. Hope for a Small Group
What does this mean for us? Even if a group is small, if people seek God, there is hope. The readers of Chronicles had lost their former glory. But even division and loss were part of God’s plan. Size is not the main thing. Today, churches may look small, and the world feels unstable. But where people worship God, His work begins. So, take time to stop and turn your heart to God.
