1．終わりの時を正しく理解する（3:1-13）
ペテロは、先の2章で、偽教師たちに気を付けるように言いました。この3章では、具体的に偽教師の間違った教えを取り上げて、正しくはどうあるべきかを示します。つまり、イエスが再び来られる、という再臨の教えについて、正しい考え方を説明します。
偽教師は、キリストの再臨を否定しました。実は、この間違った考え方が、彼らの品性堕落の原因でした。やがてイエスが再び世に来られて、世の不正を正しくお裁きになる、という再臨の教えを否定すると、結果、人はいい加減な人生を歩んでしまうのです。ペテロは言います。「神の審判、キリストの再臨は、旧約聖書にも語られたし、イエスも繰り返し語ってきたことである」よく思い起こせ、と。だから、その時を意識して、目を覚まし、敬虔な歩みをしなさい、と勧めるのです。
イエスはあるたとえ話を語りました（ルカ12:35-48）。家の主人が遠くに出かけ、留守を任されたしもべたちが、主人はまだまだ帰らないだろう、と食べたり飲んだり、酒に酔ったり、召使をいじめたりするのです。突然主人が帰ってきて、その状況を目撃し、主人は彼らを罰します。そのような不忠実なしもべのようであってはならない、とペテロは言うのです。再臨は確実に来ることだから、目を覚まして聖い人生を生きることです。
そして再臨がなかなか来ない、来る気配もない、と思えることがあっても、それは、8、9節、神が、その時を遅らせているだけのことであって、忠実なしもべでありなさい、と言います。実際神は「だれも滅びることなく、すべての人が悔い改めに進むことを望んでおられる」のです。だから滅びの日を、もう少し、もう少しと延ばしている、ことはあるでしょう、と言います。ここでペテロが引用しているのは、詩篇90:4「まことに、あなたの目には、千年も昨日のように過ぎ去り、夜回りのひと時ほどです」です。それは、神の時間間隔と私たちのそれが違うことを語っています。神は急ぐことも、遅れることもありません。神はちょうどよい時を知っておられます。そして神は、時が来れば、ご自身が予めご計画しておられたことを速やかに実行されるのです。天地創造も出エジプトの出来事も皆そうです。人が千年かかるところを神は1日で終わらせます。しかし、神は、世の終わりについては、あわれみのゆえに遅らせている。悪者の死さえ喜ばない神であればこそ、その愛のゆえに、悔い改めの時を用意するために世の終わりの時を延期し続けている、と言うわけです。
２．神の期待に生きる（3:14-18）
そこで、神の期待について、明確に理解しておきましょう。
まず神が期待しておられることは、私たちが「聖なる敬虔な生き方」をすることです。つまり14節、「しみも傷もない者として平安のうちに神に見出していただけるように努力する」ことです。
ペテロは、変貌山でこの世にはない神の聖さを目撃する経験をしました。私たちもどこかで神の聖さを目撃し、人間社会にはない聖さを求め、そこに生きることを教えられる必要があるのです。キリスト者の人生は、自分の正しさを磨くような生き方とは違います。
また、自分自身の堅実さを失わないようにすることです。主の忍耐は私たちにとって救いです。やり直しが許されているのです。執行猶予期間が与えられているのですから、その間にしっかりと堅実な人生を歩み直すことです。もし、自分がどうも偽教師の影響を受けていると思うのなら、なおさら今日、軌道修正をする。そして、「救い主であるイエス・キリストの恵みと知識において成長する（18節）」歩みをスタートさせることです。神のことばは真実です。神の祝福がありますように。ではまた明日、このチャンネルでお会いしましょう。
Chapter 3 God Delays
1. Getting the End Times Right (3:1-13)
In the previous two chapters, Peter told us to beware of false teachers. In this chapter, we will specifically address the false teachings of false teachers and show what is right. In other words, we will explain the correct way to think about the doctrine of the Second Coming of Jesus.
The false teachers denied the second coming of Christ. In fact, this wrong thinking was the cause of their corruption. When one denies the doctrine of the Second Coming, that Jesus will return to the world and righteously judge the unrighteousness of the world, the result is that one leads a lax life. Peter says, “The judgment of God and the return of Christ will be the end of the world. Peter says, “Remember well that the judgment of God, the second coming of Christ, was spoken of in the Old Testament and was spoken of repeatedly by Jesus. So he encourages us to be aware of this time, to be watchful, and to walk in godliness.
Jesus told a parable (Luke 12:35-48). The master of the house goes away, and the servants who are left in charge of the household eat, drink, get drunk, and mistreat the servants, thinking that the master will not return. Suddenly the master returns, witnesses the situation, and the master punishes them. Do not be like such unfaithful servants, says Peter. The Second Coming is a sure thing, so wake up and live a holy life.
And even if it seems that the Second Coming is not coming easily, or that there is no sign of it, he says in verses 8 and 9, God is only delaying His coming, so be faithful servants. In fact, God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. So, he says, there will be times when the day of perdition will be delayed a little longer, a little longer, and so on. Peter quotes Psalm 90:4: “Surely in your sight a thousand years pass away as yesterday, as a moment in the night. It speaks of the difference between God’s interval of time and ours. God does not hurry or delay. God knows exactly the right time. And when the time is right, God will promptly do what He has planned in advance. The same is true of creation and the Exodus. God will accomplish in one day what it would take man a thousand years to accomplish. But as for the end of the world, God delays it out of mercy. God does not even rejoice in the death of the wicked, but because of His love, He continues to postpone the time of the end of the world in order to prepare the time of repentance.
2. Fulfilling God’s Expectations (3:14-18)
So let us clearly understand God’s expectations.
First, God expects us to “lead holy and godly lives. That is, verse 14, “seek to be found by God in peace, without spot or wrinkle.
Peter had the experience of witnessing God’s not-of-this-world holiness on Mount Transfiguration. We too need to witness God’s holiness somewhere and be taught to seek and live in a holiness that is not found in human society. The Christian life is different from the kind of life that polishes one’s own righteousness.
It is also about not losing our own steadfastness. The patience of the Lord is our salvation. We are allowed to start over. We are given a probationary period during which we are to firmly resume a solid life. If we think we are being influenced by false teachers, we should change course today, especially if we think we are being influenced by false teachers. Then begin to “grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Savior” (v. 18). God’s Word is true. May God bless you. See you tomorrow on this channel.
