今日からヨシュア記を一緒に読んでいきます。旧約聖書の中で、ここからは「歴史書」と呼ばれる部分に入ります。物語のように楽しみながら読むことができますが、急いで読み飛ばさず、一つひとつをじっくり味わっていきましょう。
ヨシュア記は、モーセの時代が終わり、新しいリーダーであるヨシュアの時代が始まる場面から始まります。ここで神さまは、新しいリーダーとなったヨシュアに語りかけます。
1．神の約束を信じて進む（1:1–6）
神さまはヨシュアに、「あなたの足で踏むところを、すでにあなたに与えた」（1:3）と言われました。これは、「これから努力すれば土地が手に入る」という意味ではなく、「もうすでにあなたのものだよ」と、前もって約束してくださったということです。ヨシュアに必要だったのは、その約束のことばを信じて、一歩を踏み出すことでした。また、神さまは「わたしはあなたとともにいる」とも約束されました（1:5）。ですから、私たちも人生で迷ったり不安になったりするとき、神のことばを信じて歩み続けることが大切です。
モーセが亡くなり、ヨシュアが新しいリーダーに選ばれました。しかし、リーダーになることは簡単なことではありません。多くの人々を導き、約束の地へ向かう大きな責任がありました。そんなヨシュアに対して、神さまは「モーセのように大胆に進みなさい」と励ますのではなく、ご自分の約束が確かであることを強調されたのです。
2．神のことばを心にとめて生きる（1:7–9）
次に神さまは、「この律法の書を昼も夜も口ずさみ、それを守りなさい」（1:8）と語られました。律法とは、当時の人々に与えられた神の教えのことです。これは単なるルールではなく、神さまと深い関係を持つための道しるべです。
イエスさまも「律法を成就するために来た」と言われました（マタイ5:17）。つまり、神の教えを通して神とつながることが大切なのです。私たちも、聖書のことばを読んで心にとめ、日々の生活の中で神との関係を深めていきたいものです。
3．仲間とともに備える（1:10–15）
ヨシュアは民に、「準備をしなさい。食べ物も持って、出発の用意をしなさい」と伝えました。神の約束があるからといって、何もしないで待つのではなく、信じながら備えることが大切です。
また、すでに土地を受け取っていたルベン族、ガド族、マナセ族の半分の部族にも、「まだ土地を得ていない仲間のために、一緒に戦ってください」と呼びかけました。神を信じる人たちは、助け合う共同体です。お互いを思いやり、支え合うことが求められています。パウロも、神の家族のために霊的な戦いを勧めています（エペソ6:10-18）。
4．リーダーのために祈る（1:16-18）
最後に、民たちはヨシュアに「あなたの神がモーセとともにおられたように、あなたともおられますように」（1:17）と語りました。これは祈りのことばであり、励ましのことばでもあります。リーダーも、神の助けと人々の祈りによって力づけられていくのです。
教会や家庭、学校でも、誰かが前に立ってくれるとき、私たちも祈りや応援でその人を支えることができます。
5．今日のまとめ
神さまがヨシュアに教えた4つのことは、今の私たちにも大切なヒントになります。神の約束を信じて進むこと。神のことばを心にとめて生きること。備えをして仲間と助け合うこと。そして、リーダーのために祈ることです。
私たちの人生にも、進まなければならない道があります。しかし、神さまはすでにその道を備えてくださっています。信じて一歩を踏み出しましょう。そして、聖書のことばに耳を傾け、仲間と励まし合い、祈りをもって歩んでいきましょう。あなたの人生や、あなたの教会の上に、神さまの祝福がありますように。また次回、お会いしましょう。
Joshua Chapter 1: The New Leader, Joshua
Trusting God and Moving Forward
Introduction
Today we begin reading the book of Joshua from the Old Testament. Starting here, we enter a new section called the “Historical Books.” These parts of the Bible tell us real stories of people and events. They read almost like a storybook—but we will not rush. We want to take time and learn something important from each part.
The book begins with a big change. Moses has died, and Joshua is chosen as the new leader. At that time, God speaks directly to Joshua with words of promise and encouragement.
1. Believe God’s Promise and Move Forward (Joshua 1:1–6)
God said to Joshua:
“Every place your foot touches, I have already given to you.” (v.3)
This does not mean, “Work hard and maybe you will earn it.”
It means, “I already promised this land to you.” The gift is already given.
What Joshua needed was trust—to believe God’s promise and take a step forward.
God also said, “I will be with you. I will not leave you” (v.5).
When we feel unsure or afraid in life, this is what we can remember:
If God has promised to guide us, we can take the next step with courage.
2. Keep God’s Word in Your Heart (Joshua 1:7–9)
Next, God told Joshua:
“Speak the words of this law day and night. Do not forget them.” (v.8)
The “law” here means God’s teaching given to the people of Israel.
This is not just a list of rules. God’s Word helps us walk closely with Him.
Jesus also said, “I came to fulfill the Law” (Matthew 5:17).
He showed us how to live with love and truth, not just follow rules.
Today, we also have the Bible. Reading it, thinking about it, and living by it helps us grow in our relationship with God.
3. Prepare and Support One Another (Joshua 1:10–15)
Joshua told the people, “Get ready. Pack food and prepare to move.”
Even though God had already promised the land, the people still needed to prepare.
Trusting God also means being responsible and ready.
Joshua also spoke to the tribes who had already received their land (Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh). He asked them to help the other tribes who had not yet received theirs.
God’s people are not meant to live alone. We are called to support each other, especially those who are still facing challenges.
Paul also talked about fighting for God’s family—not with weapons, but with prayer, faith, and love (Ephesians 6:10–18).
4. Pray for Those Who Lead (Joshua 1:16–18)
The people said to Joshua:
“May the Lord your God be with you, just as He was with Moses.” (v.17)
This was a word of prayer and encouragement.
Leaders also need strength from God and the prayers of those around them.
In the early church, the believers prayed for their leaders so they could speak God’s Word with boldness (Acts 4:31).
In our lives—church, family, schools—we can also pray for those who lead us. Leaders need support too.
Summary: Four Things God Taught Joshua
Here are the four things God told Joshua. They also guide us today:
Trust God’s promise and move forward (1:1–6)
Keep God’s Word in your heart and obey it (1:7–9)
Prepare well and support your community (1:10–15)
Pray for your leaders and encourage them (1:16–18)
There are times in life when we must make big decisions.
But remember: God already prepares the way.
So let’s listen to His Word, walk forward together with others, and support one another in prayer.
