1．なぜ「知恵」が問われるのか？

。突然ですが、もしこんな質問をされたら、どう答えますか？「あなたにとって、成功の条件はお金ですか？それとも知恵ですか？」 

今の社会はSNSなどで情報があふれ、スピードが大切にされる時代です。しかし、聖書にはこう書かれています。「知恵は真珠にまさり、どんな喜びも、これとは比べられないからだ。」（箴言8章11節） 

今回は、古代イスラエルの王ソロモンと、遠い国からやってきたシェバの女王の出会いから、この問いを考えてみましょう。

2．本章の構造：三つの場面で読む

歴代誌第二9章は三つの重要な場面に分かれています。

まず一つ目は、シェバの女王がソロモン王を訪れ、難しい質問を投げかける場面（1～12節）です。

二つ目は、ソロモンの富と権力について記されている部分（13～28節）です。

そして三つ目は、ソロモンの死とその後の継承について書かれた場面（29～31節）です。

この章の中心は、ただの「王の成功物語」ではありません。「知恵とは何か」「誰のために与えられるものなのか」といった問いが全体を貫いています。

３．重要なポイント

1）シェバの女王の訪問──国際的な背景

シェバは今のイエメンにあたる南アラビアの王国で、乳香や没薬の貿易で有名でした（エゼキエル27:22-23）。この国は紅海を越えてエチオピア、さらにはインド方面への海の道を支配していました。

女王がソロモンを訪れた目的は、単なる貿易だけでなく、ソロモンの知恵を「難問」で試すことでした（9章1節）。この「難問」は、ヘブライ語で「ヒーダー（חִידָה）」と呼ばれ、謎や寓話を意味します（士師14:12-18、詩篇49:4、詩篇78:2）。つまり、単なるクイズではなく、人生や国を治めることに関する深い問いかけだったといえます。

2）「主の王座」と公正と正義

女王はソロモンに次のように語りました。「あなたの神はイスラエルを愛して、これをとこしえに確立されたので、あなたを彼らの上に王として与え、公正と正義を行わせるのです。」（9章8節） 

ここには歴代誌の神学が凝縮されています。王座とは単なる権力のしるしではなく、「主の王座」と呼ばれています（1歴代17:14、28:5、29:11、23、2歴代13:8）。つまり、王は神の代理人として、社会に公正（ミシュパト）と正義（ツェダカー）をもたらす使命があるのです。ソロモンの知恵は自分のためや富のためでなく、神の目的、つまり共同体の秩序や祝福のために与えられていました。

3）富と知恵──どちらが本質か？

歴代誌にはこう書かれています。「ソロモン王は、富と知恵とにおいて、地上のどの王よりもまさっていた。」（9章22節） 

ここで注目したいのは、富自体が悪いというのではない点です。しかし、富はゴールではなく結果です。箴言3章13節にも、「幸いなことよ、知恵を見出す人、英知をいただく人は」とあります。知恵は、お金や宝石よりもっと価値があります。なぜなら、知恵には混乱した世界に神の平和と秩序をもたらす力があるからです。

4．今日、私たちが選ぶもの

聖書は私たちにその「知恵を求めているか？」と問いかけます。ここでいう知恵は、ただ情報を得ることではなく、神の目線で物事を判断し、愛や正義をもって行動する力です。そして、それは一生懸命に探し求める人に与えられる、と箴言は語っています（箴言2章4～5節）。「自分だけでなく、誰かのために知恵を使うこと」──これがソロモンの知恵の本質であり、私たちへの招きです。また明日、お会いしましょう。

1. Why Is “Wisdom” So Important?

Hello everyone! Today we will read 2 Chronicles chapter 9 together.
Let me ask you a question: What is the key to success for you—money or wisdom?

Our world today is full of information on social media, and speed seems to matter most. But the Bible says:
“Wisdom is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire compares with her.” (Proverbs 8:11)

So, let’s look at the meeting between King Solomon of Israel and the Queen of Sheba from a faraway land, and think about this question.

2. The Structure of This Chapter: Three Main Scenes

2 Chronicles 9 has three important parts:
First, the Queen of Sheba visits Solomon and asks him hard questions (verses 1–12).
Second, the chapter describes Solomon’s wealth and power (verses 13–28).
Third, it tells about Solomon’s death and what happened after (verses 29–31).

But this chapter is not just a “success story.” It asks deeper questions: What is wisdom? Who is it for?

3. Key Points

(1) The Queen of Sheba’s Visit – An International Background

Sheba was a kingdom in what is now Yemen, famous for trading frankincense and myrrh (Ezekiel 27:22–23). It controlled sea routes across the Red Sea to Ethiopia and even toward India.
The Queen came not only for trade but to test Solomon’s wisdom with “hard questions” (verse 1). The Hebrew word is ḥidah, meaning riddles or deep questions (Judges 14:12–18; Psalm 49:4; Psalm 78:2). These were not simple puzzles—they were questions about life and ruling a nation.

(2) “The Throne of the LORD” and Justice and Righteousness

The Queen said to Solomon:
“Because your God loves Israel and has established them forever, He has made you king over them to maintain justice and righteousness.” (verse 8)
This shows the theology of Chronicles. The throne is called “the throne of the LORD” (1 Chronicles 17:14; 28:5; 29:11, 23; 2 Chronicles 13:8). The king is God’s representative to bring justice (mishpat) and righteousness (tsedaqah) to society. Solomon’s wisdom was not for himself or for riches, but for God’s purpose—to keep order and bring blessing to the community.

(3) Wealth and Wisdom – Which Is Greater?

The Bible says:
“King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth.” (verse 22)
Wealth is not evil, but it is not the goal—it is the result. Proverbs 3:13 says:
“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.”
Wisdom is more valuable than gold because it has the power to bring God’s peace and order to a broken world.

4. What Should We Choose Today?

Chasing money or success is not wrong. But the Bible asks: Are you seeking wisdom?
Wisdom is not just collecting information. It is the ability to see things from God’s perspective and act with love and justice. Proverbs 2:4–5 says wisdom is given to those who search for it like treasure.
So, here is today’s step:
“Use wisdom not only for yourself but for others.”
That is the heart of Solomon’s wisdom—and God’s invitation to us.
