1．何度言ったらわかる？
「反省しています」「気をつけます」。私たちは日常で、このような言葉をよく使います。しかし、少し時間が経つと、生活は元に戻ってしまいます。なぜでしょうか。その理由は明確です。気持ちが変わっても、生活のしくみ自体が変わっていないからです。
ネヘミヤ記10章は、「悔い改めたあと、人はどうすれば本当に変わり続けることができるのか」を、非常に現実的に教えてくれる箇所です。
1．ネヘミヤ記10章の文脈
時代はバビロン捕囚の後です。イスラエルの人々は城壁を再建し、律法の話を聞き、自分たちの罪を心から悔い改めました（8～9章）。しかもその悔い改めは一時的な感情による決意では終わりませんでした。彼らは、その志を具体的な生活のルールに変えていくのです。10章に学ぶ大切な要点です。
2．ネヘミヤ記10章の構成
では、10章の構成を見てまいりましょう。
・10:1–27 署名する人々。総督や祭司、レビ人、民の代表たちが自ら名前を書きます。自分たちの決意を、自他ともに明らかに確認する行為でした。
・10:28–29 全会衆の誓い。続いてその決意を「守るべき約束」として具体化し、みんなで神に誓いを立てました。
・10:30–31 生活の優先順位。その約束は、結婚、商売、土地の取り扱いにまで、神を一番にする選択を反映し、生活を具体的に変えていくものでした。
・10:32–39 礼拝を支える仕組み。献金や奉仕などの在り方も決めて、最後に「私たちは神の宮をなおざりにしない」と宣言しています。
このように、悔い改めは礼拝中心の生活へと具体的に整えられていきました。
3．当時の読者は何を学んだか。
ネヘミヤたちは、人の決心が長く続かないことをよく知っていました。だからこそ「がんばろう」だけで終わらせず、従い続けるための仕組みを作りました。信仰を、感情のままにせず、実際の生活に移していったのです。最初の読者は、城壁再建の記憶が過去のものとなる以前の人々。彼らは悔い改めとともに生活様式の変化が大事であることを思い起こせる人々だったと言えます。
4．現代へのメッセージ
ここから私たちが学べることがあります。信仰は、予定表やお金の使い方、人との関わり方に表れます。あらかじめ祈る時間を決めておく。「余ったら」ではなく「先に」献げ物を取り分けておく。信仰を弱めるような関係に流されないようにする。これは自分を縛るためではありません。神を真ん中にして生きる自由を得るためなのです。
ネヘミヤ記10章は、「悔い改めれば終わり」ではなく、「ここから歩みが始まる」と語りかけます。最後の一文が、そのすべてを要約しています。「私たちは、自分たちの神の宮をなおざりにはしない。」

Season 6 – An Easy Explanation of Nehemiah Chapter 10
1. How Many Times Do We Have to Say It?
“I’m sorry.” “I’ll be careful.”
We often say these words in daily life. But after some time, our life goes back to the old way. Why does this happen?
The reason is clear. Even if our feelings change, the structure of our life does not change.
Nehemiah chapter 10 teaches us, in a very practical way, how people can continue to change after they repent.
1. The Context of Nehemiah Chapter 10
This story takes place after the Babylonian exile. The people of Israel rebuilt the city wall, listened to the Law, and truly repented of their sins (chapters 8–9).
Their repentance did not end as a short emotional decision. They turned their decision into clear rules for daily life. This is the key lesson of chapter 10.
2. The Structure of Nehemiah Chapter 10
10:1–27 The people who signed
The governor, priests, Levites, and leaders of the people wrote their names. This was a way to clearly show their decision to themselves and to others.
10:28–29 The promise of the whole community
They made their decision into a promise to keep and swore it before God together.
10:30–31 Priorities in daily life
This promise affected marriage, business, and land. They chose God first, and their daily life truly changed.
10:32–39 A system to support worship
They decided how to give offerings and how to serve. At the end they declared, “We will not neglect the house of our God.”
In this way, repentance was shaped into a life centered on worship.
3. What the Original Readers Learned
Nehemiah and the leaders knew that human decisions do not last long. So they did not stop at saying, “Let’s try harder.” They built a system to help people continue obeying.
They moved faith from feelings into real daily life.
The first readers lived while the memory of rebuilding the wall was still fresh. They could remember that repentance must come with a change in lifestyle.
4. A Message for Us Today
There is something we can learn from this today.
Faith appears in our schedule, our use of money, and our relationships.
Decide in advance when you will pray.
Set aside offerings first, not only what is left.
Do not be led into relationships that weaken your faith.
This is not to control yourself. It is to gain the freedom of living with God at the center.
Nehemiah chapter 10 tells us, “Repentance is not the end. It is the beginning of the journey.”
The final sentence sums it all up:
“We will not neglect the house of our God.”
