【シーズン６】詩篇116篇 救われた者は何をもって主に応えるのか
1．この経験を忘れないようにしよう。。。
大きな危機を乗り越えたとき、「この経験を忘れないようにしよう」と思うことがあります。しかし現実には、どれほど大きな出来事であっても、時間が経つにつれてその切実さは薄れていきます。助けられた直後は感謝していても、やがて日常に埋もれてしまうことは少なくありません。では、本当に救われたと感じた人は、その経験をどのように覚え続けるのでしょうか。
詩篇116篇は、死に直面するような苦しみから救い出された人の感謝の歌です。しかし本篇が描いているのは、単なる救出体験ではありません。救われた者が、その後をどのように生きるのかという問題が中心に据えられています。
2．本篇の歴史的・文学的文脈
詩篇116篇は、113篇から118篇まで続く「ハレル詩篇」の一部です。ハレルとは「賛美する」という意味で、これらの詩篇は主の救いの御業を覚えながら神をほめたたえる詩篇群として知られています。その中で116篇は、共同体全体の救いではなく、一人の信仰者の救出体験に焦点を当てています。
作者名は記されていませんが、本文には神殿礼拝や誓願の履行への言及が繰り返し登場します。そのため本篇は、個人的な危機からの救出を語りながら、その経験が共同体の礼拝へと結び付けられている点に特徴があります。
3．本篇の流れ
では、本篇の内容を見てまいりましょう。
1～4節「死の危機の中で主を呼び求める」
詩人は「私は主を愛する」という告白から語り始めます。その理由は、主が自分の願いを聞いてくださったからです。彼は死の縄に取り囲まれ、陰府の恐怖に襲われるような状況の中にいました。しかし、その苦しみのただ中で主の名を呼び、「どうか私のいのちを助け出してください」と願います。
5～11節「救いを振り返り主を証しする」
続いて詩人は、自分を救ってくださった神について語ります。主は恵み深く、正しく、あわれみ深いお方です。主は彼を死から、涙から、つまずきから救い出してくださいました。そのため詩人は、自らのたましいに安らぎへ戻るよう語りかけ、これからも主の御前を歩む決意を表します。
12～19節「感謝を礼拝としてささげる」
ここから本篇の重心がはっきりと現れます。詩人は「私は主に何と応えたらよいのでしょう」と問いかけます。そして答えとして語られるのが礼拝です。彼は救いの杯を掲げ、主の御名を呼び求め、誓願を果たすことを繰り返し誓います。そして最後には、「主の家の大庭で」「エルサレムのただ中で」と語り、個人的な救出の経験が共同体の礼拝へと広がっていく姿を描いて締めくくります。
4．本篇の読み方
この詩篇を理解するうえで大切なのは、その重心がどこに置かれているかを見ることです。前半には死の危機からの救出が描かれていますが、本篇は救出そのものを詳しく語るための詩ではありません。むしろ後半では、感謝、誓願、礼拝、公の証しが繰り返し語られています。つまり本篇は、「主が救ってくださった」という告白から、「私はどう応えるのか」という応答へ向かって進んでいるのです。
15節の「主の聖徒たちの死は主の目に尊い」という言葉も、この流れの中で理解する必要があります。これは神が死そのものを喜ばれるという意味ではなく、主に属する者の命と死は神にとって軽いものではないという意味に理解するのが本文全体に最もよく合います。また13節の「救いの杯」も、主の救いへの感謝を表す礼拝的な象徴として読むことができるでしょう。
5．現代の私たちへの適用
詩篇116篇が描いている世界では、救いは一時的な感動で終わりません。苦難の中で神を呼び求めた人は、その後も神との関係の中を歩み続け、その恵みを公に告白し続けます。救われた経験は、個人の心の中だけに留まらず、共同体の礼拝へと結び付いていくのです。
私たちは出来事そのものを重視しがちです。しかし詩篇116篇が問いかけているのは、その後の歩みです。助けられた経験をどのように覚え続けるのか。受けた恵みをどこで思い起こし続けるのか。詩人は、その場所を主の家の大庭に見いだしました。現代の私たちにとって、その中心的な場は聖日礼拝と言えるでしょう。礼拝は単なる習慣ではなく、神がしてくださったことを忘れないための共同体の記憶の場でもあるのです。

Psalm 116 Explained Simply: How Should the Rescued Respond to the Lord?
1. Introduction
After passing through a great crisis, we may think, “I will not forget this experience.” Yet even a major event can lose its sharpness with time. We may feel thankful when help first comes, but later the experience can become buried in daily life. How can someone who has truly been rescued keep that experience alive?
Psalm 116 is a song of thanks from someone rescued from suffering that felt close to death. Yet the psalm is not only about the rescue itself. Its main concern is how the rescued person lives afterward.
2. The Historical and Literary Context
Psalm 116 is part of the Hallel Psalms, Psalms 113 to 118. Hallel means “praise.” These psalms praise God while remembering the Lord’s acts of rescue. Within this group, Psalm 116 focuses not on the rescue of the whole community, but on the rescue of one believer.
The writer is not named, but the psalm speaks often about temple worship and keeping vows. Its special feature is that a personal rescue from danger is joined to the worship of the community.
3. The Flow of the Psalm
Now let us look at the content of this psalm.
Verses 1 to 4: Calling on the Lord in the Face of Death
The psalmist begins with the confession, “I love the Lord.” He gives the reason: the Lord heard his cry. He was surrounded by the cords of death and faced the terror of the grave. In the middle of that suffering, he called on the Lord’s name and prayed, “Please save my life.”
Verses 5 to 11: Looking Back on Rescue and Speaking About the Lord
The psalmist then speaks about the God who rescued him. The Lord is gracious, righteous, and full of mercy. The Lord saved him from death, tears, and falling. So the psalmist tells his soul to return to rest and decides to keep walking before the Lord.
Verses 12 to 19: Offering Thanks Through Worship
Here the main point of the psalm becomes clear. The psalmist asks, “What can I give back to the Lord?” The answer is worship. He will lift the cup of salvation, call on the Lord’s name, and keep his vows. At the end he speaks of the courts of the Lord’s house and the center of Jerusalem. A personal experience of rescue grows into worship with the community.
4. How to Read This Psalm
To understand this psalm, we must notice where its main weight falls. The first part describes rescue from death, but the psalm does not give many details about that event. The later part repeats thanks, vows, worship, and public witness. The psalm moves from the confession, “The Lord rescued me,” to the question, “How will I respond?”
Verse 15 says, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful ones.” This does not mean that God enjoys death. In the flow of the psalm, it means that the life and death of those who belong to the Lord are never small or unimportant to Him. The “cup of salvation” in verse 13 can also be read as a sign of worship that expresses thanks for the Lord’s rescue.
5. Message for Us Today
In the world of Psalm 116, rescue does not end as a short moment of emotion. The person who called on God in suffering keeps walking with God and keeps speaking openly about His grace. The experience of rescue does not stay inside one person. It becomes part of the worship of the community.
We often focus on the event itself. Psalm 116 points instead to the life that follows. How do we keep remembering the help we received? Where do we continue to remember the grace given to us? The psalmist found that place in the courts of the Lord’s house. For believers today, the main place may be the worship of the church. Worship is not only a habit. It is also the shared place where the community remembers what God has done.
Seen this way, the psalm asks us, “Where do I keep remembering the grace I have received?” See you again tomorrow.
