20章　ヨナタンと盟約を結ぶダビデ

1．ダビデの孤独

「しかし、この私はあなたの力を歌います。朝明けには、あなたの恵みを喜び歌います。私の苦しみの日に、あなたが私の砦、また、私の逃れ場であられたからです。私の力よ、私はあなたにほめ歌を歌います。神は私の砦、私の恵みの神であるからです。」（詩篇59:16、17）

ダビデはサウルに嫌われ、あわや殺されそうな状況にありました。その時、ダビデがこの詩篇59篇を作ったとされます。ダビデは窮地にありながら、神を賛美しています。しかし、賛美したところで彼の人生が変わるわけではありません。サウルがダビデを殺そうとする意志は頑なで、その執念深い殺意をかわすことは、そう容易なことではなかったのです。ダビデは、サウルの息子ヨナタンに助けを求めます。ただヨナタンは、まだ父サウルがダビデを殺そうとしているなど、全く思いもしていませんでした。確かに、ヨナタンにしても、父サウルのダビデに対する態度は目に余るものがある、とは思っていたことでしょう。しかしまさか、ダビデを殺そうとしているとは考えも及ばなかったのです。

ただ、私には、ヨナタンの直ぐな心が印象的です。彼は父サウルを疑わず、悪く受け止めてはいません。ダビデの訴えにも、まず事実を冷静に捉えようとしているのです。そして、父サウルの心がわかり、自分の王位が危うくなる状況を理解しつつも、それが神のみこころであるなら受け入れる、そんな心を持っています。おそらく自分の保身を図り、父サウルと共謀することもありえたはずなのに、ヨナタンは、父を愛し、ダビデを愛する中で、人間として正しい道を生きることに揺れた人と言うべきでしょう。ともあれ、ヨナタンは、やがてダビデがサウル家を敵に回すような事態が起こった時に、自分の家族がダビデの赦しに与ることをお願いしています。後に、ダビデはこの約束を守り、ヨナタンの息子に栄誉を与え（2サムエル9:7）、その命を守りました（2サムエル21:7）。人間の義に基づく契約がこのように守られるのであるならば、神の義に基づく契約の確かさはどれほどでしょう、と私は思います。

2．サウルの怒り

さて、新月祭の食事が始まりました。サウルは、ヨナタンがダビデと深く結びついていることに怒りを燃やし、ヨナタンを裏切り者呼ばわりにします。そして、ヨナタンにも槍を投げつけ、激しい殺意を露にするのです。ヨナタンは全てを悟りました。ヨナタンはダビデに事の事実を知らせようとしますが、それは、ヨナタンとダビデの別れを意味するものでした。

3．神の真実

こうしてこの20章は、詩篇59篇にあるように「あなたの恵みを喜び歌います」と告白しつつも、ダビデの心の中には、大きな不安と深い絶望があったことを教えてくれます。おそらく、ダビデは、極度の圧迫下で、友人や神も信じられない思いにすらあったことでしょう。しかし、彼はヨナタンにひれ伏し、三度礼をした、とあります（41節）。つまり誠実に、ことばどおりに、物事を進めるヨナタンの姿は、深い絶望の中にある彼にとっては一抹の光、救いを投げかけたのです。ただ、そうであったとしても、ヨナタンが何かしてくれる、いや何かできるわけでもありません。ダビデは、自分の破滅は決定的に方向づけられている、そうとしか思えない状況に彼は置かれていました。サムエルに助けを求め、ヨナタンに仲裁を求めたところで、事態は変わらない、そして神に助けを求めても同じ、と思わされることもあるものでしょう。

しかしたとえそうであっても、なすべきことは、そこでさらに神のあわれみに寄りすがることです。ペヌエルのヤコブのように、「祝福なくば去らせません」と主にしがみ続けることです。ただ、主の愛を信じ、主の約束に立ち、主の救いを待ち望むことです。ほんのちょっとの忍耐を働かせて、「あともう一歩」と自分に言い聞かせることです。

42節でヨナタンは「では安心して行きなさい」とダビデに勧めています。人の安心を考える、人の心が穏やかにされることを考えていく、それが人を大切にすることであり、愛することです。しかし、大方私たちの現実は「人の安心」よりも「自分の安心」を考えているものです。ダビデに深い愛を示すヨナタンの姿勢に教えられるところです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 20 David signing an agreement with Jonathan

1. David’s loneliness

“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for your are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. O my Strength, I sing praise to youl you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.”(Psalm 59:16, 17)

David was hated by Saul and was in a situation where he was about to be killed. At that time, it is said that David made this Psalm 59. David is in dire straits but praises God. But praising does not change his life. Saul’s will to kill David was stubborn, and it was not so easy to fend off his obsessive murder. David asks Saul’s son Jonathan for help. However, Jonathan had no idea that his father, Saul, was about to kill David. Certainly, even Jonathan would have thought that his father Saul’s attitude toward David was remarkable. But he never thought he was trying to kill David.

However, I am impressed with Jonathan’s immediate heart. He does not doubt his father Saul and does not take it badly. Even in David’s complaint, he is trying to calmly grasp the facts. And while understanding the heart of his father Saul and understanding the situation in which his throne is at stake, he has the heart to accept if it is the will of God. Perhaps he could have tried to protect himself and collude with his father Saul, but Jonathan should be said to be the one who loved his father and loved David and was shaken to live the right path as a human being. Probably. In any case, Jonathan wants his family to take part in David’s forgiveness when David eventually turns the Saul family into an enemy. Later, David kept this promise, honored Jonathan’s son (2 Samuel 9: 7), and saved his life (2 Samuel 21: 7). If the covenant based on human righteousness is kept in this way, I wonder how certain the covenant based on God’s righteousness is.

2. Saul’s wrath

Well, the meal for the New Moon Festival has begun. Saul is angry at Jonathan’s deep connection with David and calls him a traitor. He also throws a spear at Jonathan, revealing his fierce murderous intent. Jonathan realized everything. Jonathan tries to inform David of the facts, which meant a farewell between Jonathan and David.

3. God’s truth

Thus, this chapter 20 tells us that there was great anxiety and deep despair in David’s heart, while confessing, “I sing with joy in your grace,” as in Psalm 59. .. Perhaps David was under extreme pressure and even his friends and Gods were incredible. However, it is said that he bowed down to Jonathan and thanked him three times (verse 41). In other words, the appearance of Jonathan doing things in good faith and according to the word cast a glimpse of light and salvation for him in deep despair. However, even so, it does not mean that Jonathan will do anything, or even do something. David was in a situation where his ruin was decisively oriented and seemingly so. When he asks Samuel for help and Jonathan for arbitration, things don’t change, and it may seem the same if he asks God for help.

But even so, what we have to do is to lean more on God’s mercy there. Like Jacob of Penuel, he keeps clinging to the Lord, saying, “I can’t let you go without a blessing.” Just believe in His love, stand on His promises, and wait for His salvation. Use a little patience and tell yourself, “one more step.”

In verse 42, Jonathan urges David to “go with peace of mind.” Thinking about people’s peace of mind, thinking about calming people’s hearts, that is to cherish and love people. However, in most cases, our reality is to think of “my own peace of mind” rather than “people’s peace of mind.” It is taught by Jonathan’s attitude of showing deep love to David. I pray that today will be a good day.
