14章　ヨアブとアブサロムの策略

1．ヨアブの策略

ダビデは、神の前に悔い改めましたが、その霊性は未だ回復されてはいませんでした。というのも、ダビデは、アブサロムに対して敵意を抱いていたのです（1節）。敵意が渦巻く心の持ち主を、霊的であると言うことはできないでしょう。その人が見かけは信仰深く見えようとも、心を見られる神にとっては、実に残念な心の状態であると言えるでしょう。使徒パウロは、「私たちは生ける神の宮なのです」（2コリント6:16）と言いました。神が、敵意ある心をご自身の宮とするはずがありません。単純なことですが、人はその矛盾に気づかぬことがあります。教会堂を綺麗に建て上げるよりも、人の目には見えにくい内なる品性を美しく築き上げていくことが、クリスチャンの務めというべきでしょう。見かけでいい人などいくらでもいるものですが、本当に、神が住まう真実な、聖められた心を願うのでないのなら、キリスト者になる意味などないのです。

ともあれ、物語は、神不在のままに進んで行きます。神無き所で、登場人物が自らの知恵を尽くして行動する様は、まるで人間の策略が歴史を変えていくかのような錯覚に陥ってしまう、日本の歴史ものドラマを見ているようです。まずヨアブが事の成り行きを変えようとしました。彼の策略は成功し、アブサロムはエルサレムに引き戻されました。しかし、物事の成功、不成功など、長い目で見れば、よくわからないものです。事態は、再び膠着してしまうのです。そこで今度は、引き戻されて二年間謹慎処分とされていたアブサロムが、今度は動き始めました。度々使者を遣わしても、動こうとしなかったヨアブに、アブサロムは、業を煮やしたのです。

それにしてもヨアブは、なぜ父子を和解させようとアブサロムをエルサレムに戻すように動いていながら、途中でそれ以上物事を進めなかったのでしょうか。それは、彼がダビデの心の頑なさと敵意の激しさを感じ、これ以上関わらない方が自分の身のためだ、と思ったのでしょうか。あるいは、アブサロムを身近に置いてみれば引き戻すほどの人物でもなかったと感じるようになり、それ以上関わることに躊躇いを感じたのでしょうか。いずれにせよ、ヨアブの行動は、人間的な策略を練って行動したのであって、祈りの中で、神の解決を求めて動き出すというものではありませんでした。ですから、事態は人間の知恵が尽きるとともに、再び膠着してしまうのです。ダビデに対してナタンがしたことと（2サムエル12:1-6）本章でヨアブがしたこととの差はそこにあると言えるでしょう。

2．根本的な解決の原則

ヨアブがダビデに求めたことは、悔い改め抜きの和解です。人間的なムードの回復です。この点は実に日本的です。確かにぎくしゃくした人間関係がだらだら続くのは耐え難いものがあります。しかし、敵意を内側に隠しながら人間関係を続けるというのは、無駄なエネルギーを消費するものがあります。顔ではにこにこしながら、テーブルの下ではお互いに足を蹴り合っているのですから。やはり、人それぞれが、神の前に、その敵意を取り扱われ、癒される、あるいは正されることがなければ、決して深い変化は起こらないでしょう。創世記に描かれたヨセフの物語のように、神の大きな恵みが働くのでなければ、真の和解は成立しないのです（創世記50:20）。

そのような意味では、表面的には仲良くとりつくろっていながら、お互いに恨みや敵意を抱いている問題が、人間社会には、ここかしこあるものでしょう。しかしそのような日々が、私たちの魂を蝕み、心のエネルギーを食い尽くしてしまい、日々人に疲れを覚えさせているのです。

もちろん人間は、完全ではありえないし、人は罪人としての愚かさを一生背負って生きていくものでしょう。だから、変わりたいと思っても変わり切れない問題を抱えることもあります。しかし、信仰者が信仰者でありうる理由は、そのような問題がはっきりと認識された時には、神の解決を求める祈りができる、ということです。人間的にあれこれ考えて、画策し、行動し、何かをするというよりも、まず神に祈り、神がなさることを見ていく、そして必要なことがあれば行動する、という心を持つことなのです。人間の罪の深さを認識して、神の助けなくして、人間の深い心の病は解決し得ないと悟って、ただ神に寄りすがることです。私たちは、そのように神の力の働く共同体、つまり、教会を建てあげていきたいものです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 14 Joab and Absalom’s plan

1． Joab and Nathan

David repented before God, but his spirituality had not yet been restored. For David was hostile to Absalom (verse 1). The owner of a heart swirling with hostility cannot be said to be spiritual. Even if the person looks religious, it is a very disappointing state of mind for God who can see the heart. The apostle Paul said, “We are the temple of the living God” (2 Corinthians 6:16). God cannot make a hostile heart his own temple. It’s simple, but one may not be aware of the contradiction. Rather than building a beautiful church, it is the duty of Christians to beautifully build an inner character that is difficult for humans to see. There are many good looking people, but there is no point in becoming a Christian unless you really wish for the true, holy heart in which God lives.

Anyway, the story goes on without God. The appearance of the characters acting with their own wisdom in a place without gods seems to be watching a Japanese historical drama that makes you feel as if human tactics are changing history. .. First, Joab tried to change the course of things. His plot was successful and Absalom was returned to Jerusalem. However, the success or failure of things is not clear in the long run. Things get stuck again. So, this time, Absalom, who had been pulled back and had been dismissed for two years, started to move. Absalom boiled his work to Joab, who did not move even after sending messengers frequently.

But why did Joab move to return Absalom to Jerusalem in an attempt to reconcile his father and son, but did not go any further along the way? Did he feel the stubbornness and hostility of David’s heart and think that it was for his own sake that he was not involved anymore? Or did he feel hesitant to get involved anymore, as he felt he wasn’t the kind of person to pull back when he put Absalom close to him? In any case, Joab’s actions were to act with human tactics, not to seek God’s solution in prayer. Therefore, the situation becomes stalemate again as human wisdom runs out. It can be said that there is a difference between what Nathan did to David (2 Samuel 12: 1-6) and what Joab did in this chapter.

2．Fundamental solution principle

What Joab asked of David was a reconciliation without repentance. It is a restoration of the human mood. This point is really Japanese. Certainly it is unbearable for a jerky relationship to continue sloppy. However, keeping relationships while hiding hostility inside can be wasteful. They are smiling on their faces and kicking each other under the table. Again, if each person is not treated, healed, or corrected before God, no deep change will occur. True reconciliation cannot be achieved without the great grace of God, as in the story of Joseph in Genesis (Genesis 50:20).

In that sense, there are some problems in human society where people have a grudge and hostility to each other, even though they are superficially friendly. However, such days erode our souls and consume the energy of our hearts, making people tired every day.

Of course, human beings cannot be perfect, and human beings will live with their stupidity as sinners for the rest of their lives. Therefore, even if you want to change, you may have problems that cannot change. But the reason a believer can be a believer is that when such a problem is clearly recognized, one can pray for God’s solution. Rather than thinking, planning, acting, and doing something humanly, we must first pray to God, see what God does, and act if necessary. Recognizing the depth of human sin, realizing that the deep illness of human beings cannot be solved without the help of God, is just to lean on God. We want to build such a community where the power of God works, that is, the church. I pray that today will be a good day.
