21章　日常を取り戻したダビデ

1．破られた契約

イスラエルに、飢饉が起こり、それが三年続きました。国王のダビデは、このような時には、主からのメッセージがあると考えました。ダビデは間違っていませんでした。神のみこころを問うダビデに、過去の契約に違反のあったことが示されました。ヨシュアの時代、イスラエルたちは、ギブオン人に欺かれて和平の契約を結んでいます。彼らはエルサレムから数キロしか離れていないのに、遙か遠くからやってきたようなふりをして、イスラエル人の聖絶を逃れる契約を結んだのです。それは詐欺的でしたが、永久の契約として結ばれたものでした（ヨシュア9:15）。しかし、イスラエル最初の王サウルが、この契約を破ってしまっていたのです。ギブオンは、サウルのギブアの近くにあり、サウルは、外国人であるエモリ人が主の宮で仕えていることを不愉快に思い、契約がなされていたにも関わらずギブオン人を殺していたのです。契約が破られたことへの償いが必要とされていました。

そこでダビデは、自分たちが何をすべきかを探りました。賠償には、お金ではなくいのちが要求され（民数記35:33）、ダビデはギブオンの人々の要求を受け入れ、死んだサウルに代わって、サウルの七人の息子を引き渡すのです。それは実に痛ましい行為でしたが、主の前に立てられた永遠の契約を全うすることになります。

2．エピソードの意義

唐突に出てきたエピソードですが、これは何を語ろうとしているのでしょうか。ダビデが置かれた状況からすれば、タガが外れて、揺らぎかけている王国を立て直すために、ユダとイスラエルを分裂させる芽をことごとく摘んだとも考えられます。つまり、ビクリの子シェバに代わって、求心力となる者がイスラエル側に起こることを事前に阻止したというわけです。しかし聖書は、これをダビデの保身として描くことをせず、あくまでも、永遠の契約が破られたことへの償いとして描くのです。

そこで注目すべきことがあります。ダビデが、荒んだ生活を抜け出て、王としての日常に戻ったことです。ダビデは、国の利益損失を考えて、神にその解決を求め出しました。彼が、契約を破ったサウルの息子たちを処罰すれば、契約違反への償いは十分したことになります。しかし、ダビデは、荒布を脱いで、死んだ息子たちの死体を守り切った女リツパに心を動かされて、さらなる行動を取っています。つまりその犠牲を、彼はまことに大事なものと考えたのです。ですから、先王一族を丁重に葬り、彼らに敬意を表しました。彼らは契約を破ったのですから当然の処罰を受けたのかもしれませんが、契約の償いのために、そして国家を救うために尊い犠牲になったことをよくよく心得た、ということです。そこで、それまで放置されていたサウルとその子ヨナタンの骨を見つけ出し、サウルの父キシュの墓に葬りました。ダビデは、彼らにできることはなんでもしよう、と考えたのでしょう。神の前に正義がなされることのみならず、ダビデは礼が尽くしたのです。ダビデの良心も、情も、正常に戻った、ということではないでしょうか。

実際その後のダビデは、戦闘に当たって、エルサレムに残るのではなく、必ず大将として出陣しました。そして、部下がもう出陣を制するまでそうしたところに、全て、王国として正常な機能が取り戻された、というべきでしょう。

ダビデが、イスラエルの国に生じた全ての問題を、王として、適正にかつ人間愛をもって処理していった時に、神はこれを喜び、「この国の祈りに心を動かされた」とされコロナ禍も長くなりました。ここに何か神のみこころがある、と考えることは、古臭い、迷信めいたことのように思われるかもしれません。しかし、神の御前に破られている契約はないものか、と考えてみたいものです。正義を失っていないか、礼儀を失っていないか、考えたいところです。そして、私たちが神と結んだ契約は愛の契約であるとすれば、神と人を愛するということで破られていることはないのか、確認したいところでしょう。そして、必要な悔い改めがあれば悔い改めをして、なすべきことをする、そして祈る、神がその祈りに心を動かされないはずがありません。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

答えは王のシェケルでした。王のシェケルは、約13グラム、普通のシェケルは、11.4グラム、聖所のシェケルは、約10グラムとされます。

 

Chapter 21 Mature King

1. Broken contract

Famine broke out in Israel and lasted for three years. King David thought that there was a message from his Lord at such times. David wasn’t wrong. David, who asks God’s will, has been shown to have violated past covenants. In Joshua’s day, the Israelites were deceived by the Gibeons and signed a covenant of peace. Even though they were only a few kilometers away from Jerusalem, they pretended to be far away and signed a covenant to escape the sanctification of the Israelites. It was fraudulent, but it was signed as a permanent covenant (Joshua 9:15). But Saul, the first king of Israel, had broken this covenant. Gibeon was near Gibeon in Saul, and Saul was unpleasant that the foreign Amorites were serving in the temple of the Lord, and he was killing the Gibeons despite the contract. is. Compensation for the broken contract was needed.

So David explored what they should do. Compensation requires life, not money (Numbers 35:33), and David accepts the demands of the Gibeon people and hands over Saul’s seven sons in place of the dead Saul. It was a painful act, but it would fulfill the eternal covenant made before the Lord.

2. Significance of the episode

It’s an episode that came out suddenly, but what is this going to say? Given the situation in which David was placed, it is possible that the tag was removed and all the buds that split Judah and Israel were picked in order to rebuild the swaying kingdom. In other words, on behalf of Sheva, the son of Bikri, the centripetal force was prevented from happening on the Israeli side in advance. However, the Bible does not portray this as David’s self-protection, but merely as a compensation for the breach of the eternal covenant.

There is something to be noted there. David escaped from his rough life and returned to his daily life as king. David sought a solution from God, considering the loss of profits in his country. If he punishes Saul’s s

ons who broke the contract, the compensation for the breach of contract would be sufficient. However, David is moved by Ritsupa, a woman who has taken off the sackcloth and protected the bodies of her dead sons, and is taking further action. So he thought the sacrifice was really important. So he politely buried the former Kings and paid homage to them. They may have been punished for breaking the contract, but they were well aware that they had made a precious sacrifice to atone for the contract and to save the nation. There, he found the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan, who had been left unattended, and buried them in the tomb of Saul’s father, Kish. David would have thought of doing whatever they could. Not only was justice done before God, but David was thankful. Isn’t it that David’s conscience and emotions have returned to normal?

In fact, after that, David did not stay in Jerusalem in the battle, but always went out as a general. And it can be said that all of them have regained their normal functioning as a kingdom until his subordinates have already won the battle.

When David, as a king, dealt with all the problems that arose in the kingdom of Israel properly and with human love, God was pleased with it and was “moved by the prayers of this kingdom.” Corona (Covid-19) has also become longer. Thinking that there is something God’s will here may seem old-fashioned and superstitious. However, I would like to wonder if there is a contract that has been broken before God. I want to think about whether I have lost justice or courtesy. And if the covenant we have with God is a covenant of love, we would like to make sure that it has not been broken by loving God and man. And if there is a necessary repentance, repent, do what we should do, and pray, God cannot be moved by that prayer. I pray that today will be a good day.
