1列王記3章　ソロモンの知恵

1．ソロモンの願い

ソロモンは、エジプトの王パロの娘と結婚をしました。この結婚は王位継承後、直ぐの出来事で、ここで言われるパロは、第21王朝のシシャクであったと考えられています。既にソロモンは、王位に就く前に、アンモン人のナアマという女性と結婚していて、子どももいました（14:21）。ソロモンはたくさんの妻を持ちました。当時国際間協調に生きるためには必要なことであったとはいえ、これが後に、イスラエルに偶像礼拝を呼び込んだのは間違いないことです。しかしながらダビデもそうですが、そんな弱さを持ったソロモンもまた、神に選ばれ、豊かな恵みを受けています。そこに何か、理解し難いものを感じる方もおられるでしょう。なぜこんな人間が神の祝福を受けるのか、というような。しかし、あなたがそのように感じるのは、自分もそのように神の祝福を受けたいのに、受けている気がしない、という思いがあるからかもしれません。私は、ソロモンのエピソードは、自分のような神の恵みを受ける資格のない者も、神に愛される重要な証拠だと考えるようにしています。ソロモンが、否定されるべき弱さを持ちながら神に愛されるというのは、この私も同様に神に愛される、ということです。

さて、神が彼を愛された一つのエピソードが記されます。ソロモンは夢の中で神と対話をしています。そして、神に与えられている使命を全うするために必要とされる「聞き分ける心」（9節）が与えられるように願っています。彼は、富も、長命も、敵のいのちも願いませんでした。ある意味で、彼は真面目な部分のある男でした。彼は、国王となって、自分の能力を超えた途方もない責任を委ねられていることを自覚していました。そして、ただ神に寄りすがる思いで、「聞き分ける心」を求めたわけです。それは、彼が然るべき時に、然るべきものを求めた、と言うことです。然るべき時に然るべきを求められない、むしろ自分の欲から願ってしまうのが、的を外した罪人のすることでしょう（ヤコブ4：3）。そうであればこそ、神もこれに応じられたことはよく理解できることです。

神は、ソロモンに「知恵と判断の心」を与えると語られました。知恵は、ヘブル語でハハム、それは、技術的な仕事に精通していること、つまり、工芸品、金細工など職人的能力があることを言います。また、それは、エジプトのヨセフのように行政管理において賢明さがあることを言います。また判断は、ヘブル語でビン、それは区別することが原意です。そこから一般的に、慎重に考えて、理解し、物事を識別して扱うことができる能力を意味します。確かに、この神の約束は、ソロモンの生涯において皆実現しました。大切なのは、彼は世界一の知恵者だと言われますが、称賛されるのは、彼ではなく、世界一の知恵者にさせた万物の主です。偉大なのは、ソロモンではなく、ソロモンに知恵を与えられた神様です。

2．ソロモンに与えられた知恵

さて16節からは、もう一つ、然るべきものを求めたソロモンに然るべきものが与えられたことを示すエピソードが加えられています。二人の遊女が王の前で親権について争い、どちらも譲ろうとしませんでした。そこで、王は、剣で子どもを半分にし、二人で分かち合うようにと命じます。というのも、王は、真に子どもを愛する母ならば、そのような判決には耐えられないと考えたからです。王の判断は当たっていました。

物事には事の真偽がはっきりとしないことがあるものでしょう。その時に、関わる人の人柄を見定め、その人に物事を委ねるというのは一つの知恵です。確かに情のない母親に育てられるよりも、情のある母親に育てられた方が真実です。神の与える知恵は、誰が見ても納得し、受け入れられるものです。使徒ヤコブが言うように、神を愛する者には、そのような知恵が与えられることを覚えたいものです（ヤコブの手紙3:17）。

1 Kings Chapter 3 Solomon’s Wisdom

1. Solomon’s wish

Solomon married the daughter of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. This marriage happened shortly after the succession of the throne, and it is believed that Paro referred to here was Shishak of the 21st dynasty. Solomon was already married to an Ammonite woman named Naamah and had children before he took the throne (14:21). Solomon had many wives. Although it was necessary to live in international cooperation at the time, it is certain that this later invited Israel to idolatry. However, like David, Solomon, who has such weaknesses, is also chosen by God and receives abundant grace. Some people may find it difficult to understand. Why does such a person receive the blessing of God? But you may feel that way because you want to receive God’s blessing that way, but you don’t feel like it. I try to think of Solomon’s episodes as an important proof of God’s love, even for those who are not eligible for God’s grace, such as myself. The fact that Solomon is loved by God with weaknesses that should be denied means that I am also loved by God.

Now, one episode in which God loved him is recorded. Solomon has a dialogue with God in his dream. And he hopes that he will be given the “discriminating heart” (verse nine) needed to fulfill God’s mission. He did not wish for wealth, longevity, or the life of his enemies. In a sense, he was a man with a serious part. As a king, he knew that he was entrusted with tremendous responsibilities beyond his abilities. And he just wanted him to lean on God, and he wanted a “hearing heart.” It means that he asked for the right thing at the right time. It is the off-target sinners who do not ask for the right thing at the right time, but rather wish for it from their own desires (James 4: 3). Only then is it understandable that God has responded to this.

God said that he would give Solomon a “heart of wisdom and judgment.” Wisdom is Haham in Hebrew, which means being familiar with technical work, that is, having craftsmanship such as crafts and goldsmithing. It also says that it is wise in executive branching, like Joseph in Egypt. Judgment is also bin in Hebrew, which is meant to be distinguished. From there, it generally means the ability to think carefully, understand, identify and handle things. Indeed, this divine promise was all fulfilled in Solomon’s life. The important thing is that he is said to be the best wise man in the world, but it is not him who is praised, but the Lord of all who has made him the best wise man in the world. The great one is not Solomon, but the God who gave Solomon wisdom.

2.Wisdom given to Solomon

Now, from verse 16, another episode is added showing that Solomon who asked for the right thing was given the right thing. The two prostitutes fought for custody in front of the king and neither tried to give up. So the king orders the child to be halved with a sword and shared by the two. For the king thought that a mother who truly loved her children would not tolerate such a ruling. The king’s judgment was correct.

Things may not be clear whether things are true or false. At that time, it is one wisdom to identify the personality of the person involved and entrust things to that person. It is true that being raised by a sympathetic mother is more true than being raised by a merciless mother. The wisdom that God gives is convincing and acceptable to everyone. As the apostle James says, we want to remember that those who love God are given such wisdom (James 3:17).
