1列王記5章　ソロモンの神殿建設

1．主の助けと恵みによる建築

ソロモンの神殿建築事業の記録になります。ソロモンは、主に与えられた知恵を用いてそれを進めていきますが、実際にはたくさんの人たちの協力が加えられました。その材料の多くは、父ダビデによってあらかじめ用意されたものでした。また、イスラエルでは手に入らない木材と職人は、異邦人の王ヒラムとカナン人によって提供されました。

いくら知恵があっても、一人の人間にできることは限られているものです。協力なくして物事は進みません。ソロモンが神殿建設の偉業を成し遂げたのも、それは、多くの助けがあったからであり、その助けを与えられた神を見落としてはならないのです。

そのような意味では、今日教会を建てることも同じです。有能な牧師が一人いれば、物事が進むわけではなく、牧師と一緒に、教会を愛し、教会を建てあげていくように協力する信徒がいてこそ、教会は建てあげられるのです。また、神はこのプロセスに、神を信じていない人々の助けを加えられることもあるでしょう。

実際、イスラエルには、大規模な建築事業を実地するだけの十分な材料があるわけでもなく、職人もいませんでした。果たしてこれをどのように進めるのか、ソロモンも悩んだはずです。しかし、事態は思いがけない形で進みました。ツロの王ヒラムが、新しく王となったソロモンに表敬使節団を送り込んできた際に、ソロモンはヒラムに協力を求め、ヒラムはこれに応じたのです。すべて良きものは上から来るのです。

2．良識ある行動

またソロモンは、単に、ヒラムから物をもらい続けたわけではありませんでした。ソロモンは杉の木を得る代わりに、食料を提供することを約束しています。物々交換による代価を払っているのです。また、労働者をカナン人だけから徴用することもありませんでした。ソロモンは言います。「私のしもべたちも、あなたのしもべたちといっしょに働きます」（6節）そして、ソロモンは全イスラエルから役務者を3万人徴用し、レバノンに送ったと言います。

しばしば、人にしてもらうことに慣れてしまい、それを当たり前のように受け止めることがあるものです。特に物事が厚意でなされ、そのように関わってくれる人がいると、人はそれに甘んじてしまうことがあります。してもらったことに対する礼を尽くしながら、良識を持って物事を進めていくことが大切なのでしょう。信仰を持つことで、すべてを神の恵み、神の業としてしまうことで、普通の良識感覚を失うようであってはなりません。私たちは、人ではない、神がそうしてくださるのだ、とよく言うものですが、それは、信仰的な姿勢から出てくる言葉です。実際には、関わって力を尽くしてくれた方々に、心からの感謝を示し、それを形にして示すことも大切です。

キリスト者であるなら、どこかで、教会を建てあげることに、しっかり取り組んでいきたいものです。教会は礼拝だけというのではなくて、祈祷会も出席する。そして、奉仕にも関わっていく。自分が好きなことを教会の場を利用して行うというのではなくて、本当に教会が必要としていることに、手をあげていく、協力していく、意欲も、お金も時間も投じていく。それが教会を愛することでしょう。神があなたに時間を与え、富を与えてくださるのは、教会を通して、さらに神の恵みの業が進められるためなのです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

1 Kings Chapter 5 Construction of Solomon’s Temple

1．Architecture with the help and grace of the Lord

It is a record of Solomon’s Temple construction project. Solomon will proceed with it using the wisdom given to him by the Lord, but in reality many people have cooperated. Much of that material was pre-prepared by his father David. Also, timber and craftsmanship not available in Israel were provided by the Gentile Kings Hiram and the Canaanites.

No matter how much wisdom you have, there is a limit to what one person can do. Things won’t go on without cooperation. Solomon has accomplished the feat of building a temple because of the great help, and the God who has been given that help must not be overlooked.

In that sense, building a church today is the same. Things do not go on with one competent pastor, and the church can only be built with the congregation who loves the church and cooperates with it to build it. God may also be able to add to this process the help of those who do not believe in him.

In fact, Israel didn’t have enough material to run a large-scale construction project, and it didn’t have any craftsmen. Solomon must have been wondering how to proceed with this. However, things went unexpectedly. When Hiram, the King of Tire, sent a courtesy delegation to Solomon, the new king, Solomon asked Hiram for help, and Hiram responded. All good things come from above

2．Common sense behavior

Also, Solomon did not simply continue to receive things from Hiram. Solomon promises to provide food instead of getting a cedar tree. He pays for bartering. Nor did they recruit workers solely from the Canaanites. Solomon says. “My servants will also work with your servants,” (ver. 6), and Solomon says he recruited 30,000 officials from all Israel and sent them to Lebanon.

Often, people get used to getting people to do it and take it for granted. People can be content with it, especially when things are done with kindness and there are people involved in it. It is important to do things with good sense while giving thanks for what you have received. By having faith, we must not lose our normal sense of decency by making everything the grace of God and the work of God. We often say that God does it, not humans, but that is a word that comes from a spiritual attitude. In reality, it is also important to show our heartfelt gratitude to those who have been involved and have done their best, and to show it in the form.

If you are a Christian, you want to work hard to build a church somewhere. The involvement in the church is not limited to Sunday worship, but also attends prayer meetings and is also involved in service. Instead of doing what you like in the church, raise your hand, cooperate, and invest your motivation, money, and time in what the church really needs. That would love the church. God gives you time and wealth because the work of God’s grace is further promoted through the church. I pray that today will be a good day.
