1列王記6章　神殿建設

1．神の時

「イスラエルがエジプトの地を出てから480年目」とあります。この数字については、概数的、象徴的な数字であるという説があります。つまり1世代を40年と考え、おおよそ12世代が過ぎたことを意味する、あるいは、出エジプトから捕囚の歴史に至るまでの中間点を示す数字だというわけです。また、それは実数で、BC1446 年に出エジプトがあって、それから480年経ったことを示しているとする説もあります。はっきりとしたことはわかりませんが、神のご計画は、短期的、一発的に終わるようなものではないと思わされるところです。アブラハムに祝福を約束し、その約束が実現するまでの期間があります。なぜこれほどの時間を神は費やされることをよしとするのか、そのような意味では、イエスが語られる神の御国の建設も今なお進行中で、完成はまだ先のことです。であるからこそ、キリスト者の心の結集が求められてもいるのです。

ただなぜ神は、そのような気の長いことをされるのか、と思うところがあります。ほぼ移動能力が失われつつある、90過ぎの父の介護に関わりながら思うことがあります。それは、今の日本の社会が動いているようなスピードで物事を進めていたら、本当に目に見えない形で人の内に育っていくものがあることを忘れてしまう、ということです。やはり、物事が熟成する、あるいは発酵するかのように、少しずつ物事が形作られていく速度があって、人が本当の幸せを理解していくのも、そのようなゆっくりとした時間によるものです。それは、良い仕事には、それなりの時間が必要なことと同じです。神は言います。「あなたの父ダビデに約束したことを成就しよう。」（12節）480年経った後であればこそ、重みのあることばです。

2．ソロモンの神殿

さて、ソロモン王が建設した神殿はおおよそ計算してみると、長さ30メートル、幅10メートル、高さ15メートルでした。つまり、横に長い長方形の、約5階建ての建物を思い浮かべたらよいでしょう。その構造については、外観（2-14節）、内部（15-30節）、入口（31-35節）、中庭（36節）など種々書かれていますが、それらは概要であって、位置も方角も省略されており、詳細はよくわからない部分があります。ただ、彼は、神殿のために、金、銀、そして様々な種類の高価な石（1歴代28:14-29:9）、と最良の材料をふんだんに使い、さらに最高の技術を用いています。それだけの思いを注ぎ、献身的に神殿を建てあげたソロモンの姿勢が印象的です。

しかしこれは、教会を建てあげることも同じです。私たちも、教会を、最良の材料と最高の技術を用いて建て上げてまいりたいのです。大事なことは、教会というのは建物ではなく人なのですから、財を寄進せよということではなくて、磨き上げた人を献げよ、ということなのです。教会は、どんなに現代建築の粋を集めて、美しい教会堂を建て上げたとしても、その中に集う人々によってその価値が定まるものです。集う人々がまことに神を愛し、神に従い、神の栄光を表す人々であるのか、そこが問題なのです。時間をかけて、神のことばによって魂を研ぎ澄ます、そのような人々が集められるならば、場所の良しあしに関わらず、そこは、神の住まうところ、つまり神にお会いする場となるのです。では、今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

1．God’s time

It says, “In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of Egypt.” There is a theory that this number is an approximate and symbolic number. In other words, one generation is considered to be 40 years, which means that about 12 generations have passed, or it is a number that indicates the middle point from Exodus to the history of captivity. There is also a theory that it is a real number, indicating that Exodus was in 1446 BC and 480 years have passed since then. I don’t know for sure, but God’s plan does not seem to end in a short-term, one-off manner. He promises Abraham a blessing, and there is a period until that promise comes true. Why is God willing to spend so much time? In that sense, the construction of the kingdom of God, where Jesus speaks, is still underway and is still a long way off. That is why the unity of the Christian hearts is also required.

However, there is a place to wonder why God does such a long-term thing. I have something to think about while caring for my father, who is over 90 years old, who is almost losing his mobility. It means that if we are doing things at the speed that Japanese society is moving now, we will forget that there are things that grow up in people in a truly invisible way. After all, as if things mature or ferment, there is a speed at which things are formed little by little, and it is due to such slow time that people understand true happiness. It’s the same as a good job requires a certain amount of time. God says. “I will fulfil through you the promise I gave to David your father.” (Ver. 12) Only after 480 years has it been a weighty word.

2．Solomon’s Temple

By the way, the temple built by King Solomon was roughly calculated to be 30 meters long, 10 meters wide and 15 meters high. In other words, think of a horizontally long rectangular building of about five stories. The structure is described in various ways such as exterior (ver. 2-14), interior (ver. 15-30), entrance (ver. 31-35), courtyard (ver. 36), etc., but these are outlines and positions. The directions are omitted, and the details are not clear. However, he uses abundant gold, silver, and various kinds of expensive stones (1 Chronicles 28: 14-29: 9), the best materials, and the best techniques for the temple. Solomon’s attitude of devoting himself to building the temple with that much thought is impressive.

But this is the same as building a church. We also want to build the church with the best materials and the best technology. The important thing is that the church is not a building but a person, so it is not about donating goods, but about offering polished people. No matter how much the essence of modern architecture is collected and a beautiful church is built, the value of the church is determined by the people who gather in it. The question is whether the people who gather are truly those who love God, obey God, and show the glory of God. Take the time to sharpen your soul with the Word of God, and if such people are gathered, it will be the place where God lives, that is, the place to meet God, regardless of whether the place is good or bad.  I pray that today will be a good day.
