1列王記14章　イスラエルとユダの最初の王

1．ヤロブアムの子の病

北イスラエルの王ヤロブアムの子が病気になりました。ヤロブアムは、主の預言者アヒヤに助けを求めます。ヤロブアムはイスラエルに多くの異教の神々を持ち込みましたが、結局、それらは何の助けにもならなかったのです。窮地にあって、彼は再び、イスラエルの神、天地万物をお造りになり、これを支配しておられる神へと戻っていくのです。しかし、建前上彼は偶像崇拝者でした。ですから、彼は、妻に変装をさせて、預言者の下へと送り出します。おそらく、その方が、病気の息子について本当のことを話してもらえる、と思ったのでしょう。しかし、神の前に変装は通用しません。実際、アヒヤは年をとって視力も弱っていて、変装しようとしまいとヤロブアムの妻とはわからない状況にありました。また、彼女が持参した贈り物は、彼女の身分を感じさせるものでしたが、アヒヤは、彼女がその贈り物を出す前に、ヤロブアムの妻が訪れることを神に知らされるのです。

2．アヒヤの宣告

アヒヤは、彼女の訪問を受け入れ、神の言葉を伝えました。それは、厳しいことばでした。息子に対する善いニュース、そして、ヤロブアムの家に対する悪いニュースです。息子はヤロブアムの家でただ一人神のみこころにかなった者であったと言います（13節）。そこで神は、その息子がヤロブアムの悪の巣窟のような家庭で育つことを望まないこと、またヤロブアムの家庭の中でただ一人墓に葬られることを告げます。他方、ヤロブアムの家族は誰一人墓に葬られることもなく、絶ち滅ぼされることが告げられます。それは、後に語られたとおりに成就しています（１列王15:25-30）

ヤロブアムの悪は、9節、異教を導入し、まことの神を捨て去ったことにあります。そして彼が選んだ神々は、彼の窮地を救うことができませんでした。

3．ユダのレハブアム

またソロモンの後、ユダの王国は、レハブアムが支配していました。ユダ王国もまた、神に対する不信仰の故に力を失っていました。この時代にパレスチナに遠征し、パレスチナを征服した第22王朝エジプト王のシシャクの業績は、テーベにあるカルナック神殿の壁に記録されています。彼は、ガザ、アラド、アヤロン、ベテ・ホロン、ギブオン、ティルザ、ベテ・シャン、タアナク、メギドなどパレスチナの主要都市をことごとく占領し、ユダ王国を制圧、エルサレムにまで侵略の手を伸ばしました。ユダの王レハブアムは、エルサレム神殿の財宝のほとんどをシシャクに明け渡すことで、エルサレムの占領を阻止したのです。シシャクは北のイスラエル王国をも侵略し、ギルアデにまで遠征、イスラエルの王ヤロブアムを追いつめています。シシャクは、ソロモン王国の富をことごとく搔っ攫い、イスラエルはほぼ丸裸になった、と言ってよいでしょう。ソロモン王は、知恵者と言われましたが、彼が本当に知恵ある人間であったのなら、自分の代で、王国を滅ぼすようなことはしなかったことでしょう。彼の知恵はやはり与えられたものに過ぎないのであって、彼が知恵を与えられた方に敬意を示し、服して生きなかった結果がこうであった、と言うべきなのでしょう。

私たちは、やはり人間が本質的に愚かであること、自分の琴だけを考える者であること、物事を深く見通しながら生きていることはなく、むしろ今自分が生きているこの時がよければよい、とすら考えて生きているような者であることを忘れてはなりません。そして何か困った時に、急に神を思い出して、神の下へ駆け込むのではなく、いつも、神に心を向け、愚かさを戒められながら、歩む者でありたいものです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

1 Kings Chapter 14: The First King of Israel and Judas

1．Jeroboam’s childhood illness

The son of Jeroboam, king of northern Israel, became ill. Jeroboam seeks help from his Lord’s prophet Ahijah. Jeroboam brought many pagan gods to Israel, but in the end they did nothing to help. In a difficult situation, he returns to the God of Israel, the God who created and ruled all things in heaven and earth. But in front of everyone, he was an idol worshiper. So he disguises his wife and sends her under the Prophet. Perhaps he thought he would be able to tell the truth about his sick son. However, disguise does not work before God. In fact, Ahijah was old and had poor eyesight, and even if she disguised herself, she couldn’t tell her that she was Jeroboam’s wife. Also, the gift she brought was a reminder of her identity, but Ahijah was informed by God that Jeroboam’s wife would visit her before she gave her the gift.

2．Ahijah’s sentence

Ahijah accepted her visit and told the word of God. It was a harsh word. Good news for his son and bad news for Jeroboam’s house. He says that his son was the only one in Jeroboam’s house who was in the will of God (ver. 13). So God tells him that he does not want his son to grow up in a family like the evil den of Jeroboam, and that he is the only one in Jeroboam’s family to be buried in a grave. On the other hand, no one in Jeroboam’s family is buried in the tomb and is told that it will be destroyed. It is fulfilled later as it was told (1st row King 15: 25-30).

The evil of Jeroboam lies in the introduction of paganism in verse 9, abandoning the true God. And the gods he chose could not save his predicament.

3．Rehoboam of Judas

After Solomon, the kingdom of Judas was dominated by Rehoboam. The Kingdom of Judah was also weakened because of its disbelief in God. The achievements of Shishak, the 22nd dynasty Egyptian king who traveled to Palestine during this period and conquered Palestine, are recorded on the wall of the Karnak Temple in Thebes. He occupied all the major Palestinian cities such as Gaza, Arad, Ayaron, Bethe Holon, Gibeon, Tilza, Bethe Shan, Taanak and Megiddo, conquered the Kingdom of Judah and extended the invasion to Jerusalem. Rehoboam, king of Judah, stopped the occupation of Jerusalem by surrendering most of the treasures of the temple in Jerusalem to Shishak. Shishak has also invaded the northern kingdom of Israel, and has traveled to Gilead to pursue Jeroboam, the king of Israel. It can be said that Shishak robbed all the wealth of Solomon’s kingdom and Israel was almost naked. King Solomon was said to be a wise man, but if he were a truly wise man, he would not have destroyed his kingdom in his own time alone. It should be said that his wisdom was still only given, and that this was the result of his not living in obedience, paying homage to the one who was given wisdom.

We must also remember that humans are inherently stupid. A person is a person who thinks only about himself, and does not live with a deep view of things, but rather a person who lives thinking that it is better when he is alive now. We always want to be the ones who walk with our hearts toward God and being warned of stupidity. Don’t suddenly remember God and run under him when something goes wrong. I pray that today will be a good day.
