1列王記16章　バアシャからオムリまで

1．北イスラエル王国

16章からイスラエル北王国の歴史が記録されます。イスラエル北王国は、エフライム族出身のヤロブアム王朝が崩壊した後、イッサカル族のバアシャ王朝へと引き継がれていきます。しかしバアシャ王朝も、神の前に罪を犯し、神のみこころを損ない、ジムリの謀反によって倒れ、オムリ王朝へと引き継がれていきます。次々と王朝が変転する中、神は、神から離れた王朝の歩みに対して、預言者エフーを起こし、警告を発してこられました。

2．ジムリ

そこでバアシャを倒したジムリですが、彼の名前はアラム系ですから、恐らく、イスラエルの部族の出身ではなかった、と考えられています。彼は、戦車隊の半分を指揮する戦車隊長で、ユダ南王国の攻撃に備えてイスラエルの中心部ティルツアにいました。イスラエル北王国の主要部隊を指揮する将軍オムリは、

さらに前線の南ユダの国境近くの町ギベトンにいました。この機にジムリは、酒に酔っていた自分の主君エラ、バアシャの子を殺して自ら王となります。しかし実際に王として君臨したのはわずか七日、オムリに討伐され、まさに明智光秀の三日天下とも言うべき束の間の栄光でした。

3．オムリ

ジムリの後を継いだオムリも非イスラエル人と考えられています。彼の家系は記録されていません。恐らく、彼は王族の出身ではなく、卑賤あるいは領土を持たない成り上がり者だったと考えられています。こうして北イスラエルでは、イスラエル民族ではない者が王となっていく時代に入ります。ですから「彼以前のだれよりも主の目に悪であることを行った（30節）」という、悪の深まりもあったのでしょう。彼はイスラエルにバアル礼拝をもたらしました。イスラエルの神をあからさまに否定したのです。イスラエルの歴史に神がいかに介入されたかを知らない者が、王となることで、ますます大胆にイスラエルはまことの神を認めず、偶像崇拝の国となっていくのです。

4．アハブ

オムリの子アハブは、イスラエルにさらにバアル礼拝を浸透させました。バアルは、カナンの地における偶像であり、豊穣の神でした。荒野の放浪の旅を終えて、カナンの地に住み着き農耕民族となったイスラエル人にとって、それは非常に受け入れやすい神であり、その神殿におけるいかがわしい儀式も、民の欲望に訴えるものだったと言います。こうしてイスラエル北王国の人々は、敬虔な伝統と習慣を失っていくのです。

神との関係をしっかり保っていくことは人間にとって大切なことです。というのも、人間は、神に造られました。それは、この時代に神が何を期待し、語られているのか、神のみこころを覚えて、神と共にこの世界をよき方向に建て上げていくためです。ですから、聖書を読みながら、神と良き時を過ごす、神と時間を共有し関係をしっかり保っていくことは、とても大切なことです。しかし人は、神の存在を認めないことが多いのですし、神の善であること、神がこの時代を愛しておられることを覚えることもありません。むしろ、ヤロブアムやオムリ、アハブのように自分に都合のよい神を作り出し、あるいはまことの神に背を向けて自己満足的に人生を生きていることの方が多いものでしょう。

列王記の著者は、三代、40年以上も続いたオムリの王朝に、全体の三分の一の頁を費やしていますが（1列王16～2列王12章）、この王朝の創設者であるオムリについてはわずか七節しか当てていません。著者の関心は、この王朝に関わり、神の存在と力を明らかにしたエリヤとエリシャの活躍に向けられ、単なる王朝の興亡を記録することではありませんでした。著者は、彼らのエピソードを通して、読者に神との関係について考え、生きることを求めているのです。神はまことに生きておられる方です。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

1 Kings Chapter 16 From Baasha to Omri

1．Kingdom of Northern Israel

The history of the northern kingdom of Israel is recorded from chapter 16. After the collapse of the Jeroboam dynasty from the Ephraim tribe, the northern kingdom of Israel will be taken over by the Baasha dynasty of the Issachar tribe. However, the Baasha dynasty also sins before God, opposes the will of God, collapses due to Zimri’s rebellion, and is handed over to the Omri dynasty. As the dynasties changed one after another, God set up the Prophet Jehu and issued a warning against the steps of the dynasty away from God.

2. Zimri

Zimri, who defeated Baasha there, is probably not from the tribe of Israel because his name is Aram. He was the chariot captain who commanded half of the tank corps and was in Tirzah, the center of Israel, in preparation for an attack on the southern kingdom of Judas. General Omri, who commands the main forces of the northern kingdom of Israel, was further on the front line in Gibbethon, a town near the border of South Judah. On this occasion, Zimri kills his druken lord Elah, the son of Baasha, and becomes the king himself. However, it was only seven days that he actually reigned as king, and was subdued by Omri, and it was a   glory that could be called the three day reigh like Akechi Mitsuhide, Japanese general.

3. Omri

Omri, who succeeded Zimri, is also considered non-Israeli. His family line is not recorded. Perhaps he was not from the royal family, but risen from humble origins or an upstart with no territory. Thus, in northern Israel, they enter an era in which non-Israeli people become kings. Therefore, there must have been a deepening of evil, saying, “He did evil in the eyes of the Lord and sinned more than all those before him. (ver. 13).” He brought Baal worship to Israel. He overtly denied the God of Israel. By becoming king, those who do not know how God intervened in the history of Israel will become more and more boldly disapproving of the true God and become a country of idolatry.

4. Ahab

Ahab, the son of Omri, further instilled Baal worship in Israel. Baal was an idol in the land of Canaan and a god of fertility. For the Israelites, who settled in the land of Canaan and became a farmer after a wandering journey through the wilderness, it was a very acceptable god, and the dubious rituals in the temple also appealed to the desires of the people. Thus the people of the northern kingdom of Israel lose their pious traditions and customs.

It is important for human beings to maintain a strong relationship with God. For human beings were created by God. The reason is to remember what God expects and speaks in this era, to remember the will of God, and to build this world in a good direction together with God. Therefore, it is very important to spend good time with God, share time with God, and maintain a strong relationship while reading the Bible. But people often do not recognize the existence of God, nor do they remember God’s goodness or God’s love for this era. Rather, they are more likely to create a god that suits them or to turn their backs on the true god and live their lives in a self-satisfying manner, like Jeroboam, Omri, and Ahab.

The authors of Kings spend one-third of the pages of total for the Omri dynasty, which lasted more than 40 years for three generations (1kings 16-2 kings 12), but Only seven verses to Omri. The author’s interest was not just to record the rise and fall of the dynasty, but to the activities of Elijah and Elisha, who were involved in this dynasty and revealed the existence and power of God. Throughout their episodes, the author asks readers to think about their relationship with God and live. God is truly alive. I pray for a good day today.
