11章　ダビデの罪

1．罪人ダビデ

「年が改まり、王たちが出陣するころ」つまり、厳しい冬が過ぎ、戦争が進めやすい季節になった頃、というのでしょう。ダビデはヨアブと全軍を送り出し、エルサレムにとどまっていました。2節「歩いている」とあります。ヘブル語で、この動詞は、当てもなく行ったり来たりすることを意味します。つまり、彼は暇つぶしをしていたのです。自堕落に夕暮れ時に起き上がったダビデは、見晴らしのよい屋上に上がり、ぶらぶらしているうちに一人の美しい女を見つけました。ダビデは自分の家臣に、その女の素性を調べさせました。そして彼女には夫がいることを十分承知しながら、彼は王宮に彼女を召し抱えて一夜を共にするのです。

この戦争は昨日も述べたように、中東世界の覇権地図を塗り替える重要な戦争でした（10:6-19）。つまりイスラエルが負けるかもしれない、力は五分五分の難しい戦争でした。つまり、ダビデは、栄光の頂点にあったわけでもなく、余裕があった時に罪を犯したわけではありません。国が難しい局面にありながら、また、ある意味で、この戦争では戦死するかもしれない、と自分の身を守る思いにすらあったと思われる状況にありながら、彼は罪を犯しました。しばしばダビデの性的罪だけがクローズアップされて語られやすいこのストーリー、実はダビデの人間としてのあらゆる弱さが、この事件に噴き出たに過ぎません。

実際彼は、女が身ごもると、自分のしたことを隠すために、彼女の夫を呼び戻し二人が性交することを望むわけです。しかし、戦いの厳しさがあったのでしょう、ウリヤは、全くそのような気を起こすどころではなかったようです。するとダビデは、さらに自分のしたことを隠すために、彼を戦死と見せかけ殺そうとするのです。つまり彼の心の弱さが、あらゆる形で出ているのであり、彼は全くの悪人に成り下がっています。かつて詩篇63篇を歌い神とともにある幸せを歌ったダビデとは別人です。しかしこれが罪人の現実です。100％の悪人もいなければ100％の善人もいません。純粋で美しい心を持ちながら、汚くおぞましい心もひょっこり顔を出す、それが人間というものでしょう。

ただ、このように誠実なウリヤが、その誠実さの故に命を落とす、世の矛盾には、やはり何とも残念なものを感じます。将軍ヨアブも、ダビデのやり方に異を唱えず、ずるがしこいダビデの共犯となっていく。神の民の国であるというのに、神無き腐敗した国と同じようになっていく。口先では神に立派な祈りを献げ、礼拝を守りながら、神を否定する国や組織、こんなことがあるのか、と思いきや、あるというわけです。彼らはクリスチャンなのに、ここはキリスト教会なのに、こんなことが起こるのか！と驚くようなことが起こるものです。しかしそれは、驚くようなことではありません。人がまじめに神を信じるなんて馬鹿らしい、と思うことも起こるのです。

2．罪人を赦す神

けれども27節「ダビデが行ったことは主のみこころを損なった」とあります。人は不誠実であっても、神は真実です。神は、人間が罪人であることをよくご存じです。そして神は、人が罪を犯し、組織も混迷してしまう状況もよくわかっておられます。そして神は、いつまでもそれを放置し、見過ごすことはありません。大切なのは、そのような人や組織を一刀両断に裁くというよりも、愛を持って正しき歩みへと促すという神の姿勢です。

ダビデは、ウリヤの死を報告した使者に際して、「このことに心を痛めるな～あなたは彼を力づけなさい」（25節）、と語っています。事の真相を知らない人が聞けば、さも善良な王のことばとして聞こえるものではないでしょうか。しかし聖書は、ダビデのそのような心の闇を抉り出そうとしているわけではありません。むしろ聖書は、あわれみ深い神が、このようなダビデを、どのように取り扱っていくのかを語ろうとしているのです。

そこでそのことが本格的に語られる12章に入る前に、もう一つ考えるべきことがあります。つまり、ダビデはサウルに命を狙われていた時には、サウルを殺すチャンスがあっても決してサウルを殺そうとはしませんでした。しかし、ウリヤの妻バテシェバについては、彼は自分の欲望のままに、ウリヤを殺してしまうのです。彼も人間に優劣をつけ、自分にとって価値なき者、邪魔な者をぞんざいに扱う実にかわいそうな罪人でした。しかしそれは、人間が自分を何か特別な者と思う慢心の故の不幸です。そして神を信じるクリスチャンもまたその落とし穴に陥るという例がここにあるのです。

そこで私は、人間は、苦しみや痛みを負って生きている方が人間らしい誠実な歩みができる、と思うことがあります。人間は慢心し易い者です。罪人というほかのない存在です。その罪人が正しき道を歩み続ける最良の予防策は、損なことを進んで引き受けていく、痛みを負っていく、そうやって積極的に自分を低くしていくことです。使徒パウロも語ったように、キリストの力を現すために、神様が与えてくださったとげを受け入れることです（2コリント12:7-10）。私たちは、人が痛みを持つことは、その人の人生にプラスを生じさせている、と考えたいものです。では、今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 11 David’s Sin

1. Sinner David

“When the year changes and the kings go out（translation of Japanese Bible）,” that is, when the harsh winter has passed and the war is easy to proceed. David sent Joab and his entire army out and stayed in Jerusalem. Ver. 2 says “walking,” in Hebrew, this verb means to go back and forth without a guess. In other words, he was killing time. David, who got up at dusk due to self-degradation, went up to the rooftop with a good view and found a beautiful woman while hanging out. David had his vassals examine the woman’s identity. And knowing that she has her husband, he calls her to his royal palace and spends his night with her.

As I mentioned yesterday, this war was an important war that repainted the hegemony map of the Middle East world (10: 6-19). In other words, it was a difficult war in which Israel might lose, and its power was fifty-fifty. So David wasn’t at the pinnacle of glory, and he wasn’t guilty when he could afford it. He sinned while the country was in a difficult situation, and in a way he seemed to have even thought to protect himself that he might be killed in this war. This story, which is often told only with David’s sexual sins in close-up, is, in fact, all of David’s human weaknesses erupting in this case.

In fact, when her woman becomes pregnant, he wants to recall her husband and have sexual intercourse in order to hide what  he has done. However, perhaps due to the fierceness of the battle, Uriah did not seem to have such a feeling at all. David then tries to kill him by pretending to be killed in action, in order to further hide what he has done. In other words, his weakness is manifested in every form, and he has become a complete villain. He is different from David, who once sang Psalm 63 and sang happiness with God. But this is the reality of sinners. There are no 100% bad guys and no 100% good guys. A human being is a person who has a pure and beautiful heart, but also has a dirty and horrifying heart.

However, I still feel sorry for the contradiction of the world where such a sincere Uriah dies because of his sincerity. General Joab does not disagree with David’s act and becomes an accomplice to David. Even though it is a country of God’s people, it becomes the same as a corrupt country without God. I wonder if there is a country or organization that denies God while offering a fine prayer to God and keeping worship. What happens when they are Christians and this is a Christian church! It can be surprising. But it’s not surprising. Often things happen that make you think it’s silly to believe in God seriously.

2. God forgiving sinners

But ver. 27 says, “But the thing David had done displeased the Load.” God is true, even if one is dishonest.　God is well aware that humans are sinners. And God is well aware of the situation in which a person sins and the organization is confused. And God will leave it alone and never overlook it. What is important is God’s attitude to encourage such people and organizations to take the right steps with love, rather than to judge them in a single sword.

David said to the messenger who reported Uriah’s death, “Don’t be afraid of this-you empower him” (verse twenty-five). If someone who doesn’t know the truth of the matter hears it, it sounds like the word of a good king. But the Bible is not trying to dig out the darkness of David’s heart. Rather, the Bible is trying to tell how the merciful God treats such David.

So, before we get into Chapter 12, where that is really talked about, there is one more thing to think about. That is, when David was killed by Saul, he never tried to kill Saul, even if he had a chance to kill him. But for Uriah’s wife, Batesheba, he kills Uriah at his own will. He was also a very poor sinner who gave superiority and inferiority to human beings and treated those who were worthless and disturbing to him. But it is a misfortune because of the pride that humans consider themselves to be something special. And here is an example of how Christians who believe in God also fall into that pit.

Therefore, I sometimes think that human beings can walk in good faith as human beings if they live with suffering and pain. Humans are easy to be proud of. He is nothing but a sinner. The best preventive measure for the sinner to continue on the right path is to be willing to take on the loss, to take pain, and to actively lower himself. As the apostle Paul said, accept the thorns that God has given us to show the power of Christ (2 Corinthians 12: 7-10). We want to think that having a person in pain has a positive effect on his or her life. I pray that today will be a good day.
