あなたは、正しいことがなかなか報われず、正義が行われていないように感じたことはありませんか？この物語は、長い間忘れ去られていた約束が、ある日突然、思いがけない形で実現する瞬間を描いています。神の言葉は、時がくれば必ず現実となるのです。もしかすると、あなたの人生にも神の語りかけがあるかもしれません。
1．エフーによる預言の成就
列王記第二9章は、北王国イスラエルの歴史を大きく変えた出来事を伝えています。オムリ王から始まり、アハブ、アハズヤ、ヨラムと続いた四代のオムリ王朝は、神の教えから離れてしまい、民を苦しめるような政治を行っていました。偶像を拝んだり、神の預言者たちを迫害したりしたのです。しかし、神の預言に従って、神によって選ばれた軍の将校エフーの手で、この王朝は終わりを迎えます。これは単なる政治の争いではなく、神の裁きと預言が実現した出来事でした。
預言者エリシャの遣わした若い預言者（ユダヤ教ではヨナとも伝えられていますが、はっきりしていません：2列王記14:25）は、ラモテ・ギルアデにいたエフーに油を注ぎ、神の命令を伝えました。ちょうどその時、イズレエルに戻って療養していたヨラム王に対し、エフーは神の裁きを行うために進軍します。そして、将校たちが「エフーは王だ！」と叫ぶことで、神の計画が歴史の真っ只中で動き出しました。
この場面は、ただの権力争いではありません。ここには、神が歴史を導いておられるという強いメッセージがあります。人の計画や偶然によるものではなく、神が語られたとおりのことが、時を経て必ず実現するということがはっきり示されているのです。
2．イゼベルの最期と預言の実現
この章には、もう一人重要な人物が出てきます。それがアハブ王の妻イゼベルです。イゼベルは、強い影響力を持っており、偶像礼拝や預言者迫害の象徴でもありました。彼女もまた、神の預言どおりに裁かれます。イゼベルはエフーを「主君殺しのジムリ」と言って罵りますが、その言葉が彼女の運命を変えることはできませんでした。
イゼベルの死についての描写は、とても衝撃的です。ですが、これは預言者エリヤによって語られていた預言がそのまま実現した様子を伝えています。彼女の遺体は犬によって食べられ、頭と手足だけが残ったとされています（9:36–37）。この出来事もまた、神の言葉はどれほど軽んじられたり、忘れられたりしても、必ず現実となることを伝えているのです。
3．現代へのメッセージ
それでは、この話から私たちが学べることは何でしょうか。
まず、正しいことをしてもすぐに報われないことや、不正や悪が続いているように思えることは、私たちの人生でもよくあることです。しかし、聖書は「神の正義は本物だ」と教えています。不正が永遠に続くことはありません。神の決めた時がくれば、必ず正しさが現れるのです。
また、神の言葉や約束は、表面上忘れられているように見えても、確かに生きています。例えば、種子が土の中にあっても、時がきたら必ず芽を出して成長するように、神の言葉も時を待って実現します。ですから、不条理や希望のなさで心がくじけそうになっても、あきらめないでください。エリヤが預言したとき、誰もそれが本当に実現するとは思わなかったかもしれません。時代が変わってもイゼベルの権力は続いているように見えました。しかし、神の言葉は、時が満ちたとき必ず実現しました。
新約聖書には、イエスが「神はこれらの石ころからでも、アブラハムの子らを起こすことができるのです。」（マタイ3:9）と話された場面があります。神は、何もないところから何かを生み出したり、逆にあるものをなくす力を持っています。誰にも変えられないような時代でさえ、神は動かすことができる方なのです。ですから、あなたの忍耐にもやがて神の恵みが現れることを願っています。また明日、お会いしましょう。
Season 6: A Gentle Explanation of 2 Kings Chapter 9 – The End of the Omri Dynasty
Have you ever felt that doing the right thing doesn’t bring results, and that justice is missing?
This story shows how a forgotten promise suddenly comes true in an unexpected way.
God’s words always become real when the time is right.
Maybe God is speaking to your life too.
1. Jehu and the Fulfillment of Prophecy
2 Kings chapter 9 tells about a big change in the history of Israel.
The Omri dynasty—Omri, Ahab, Ahaziah, and Joram—turned away from God and caused suffering.
They worshiped idols and hurt God’s prophets.
But God chose Jehu, a military commander, to bring justice.
This was not just a political fight. It was the fulfillment of God’s prophecy.
A young prophet, sent by Elisha (some Jewish traditions say it was Jonah, but we don’t know for sure), went to Jehu in Ramoth-Gilead and anointed him as king.
At that time, King Joram was recovering in Jezreel.
Jehu marched to Jezreel to carry out God’s judgment.
When the officers shouted, “Jehu is king!”, God’s plan began to move in history.
This moment shows that history is not random.
It is guided by God.
Even if people forget or ignore God’s words, they will come true in time.
2. Jezebel’s End and the Prophecy Fulfilled
Another important person in this chapter is Jezebel, the wife of King Ahab.
She had strong power and supported idol worship and the persecution of prophets.
She insulted Jehu, calling him “Zimri, the traitor,” but her words could not change her fate.
Jezebel’s death is shocking.
Her body was eaten by dogs, and only her skull, hands, and feet remained (2 Kings 9:36–37).
This was exactly what the prophet Elijah had said before.
Even if people ignore God’s words, they will come true.
3. A Message for Today
What can we learn from this story?
Sometimes, doing the right thing doesn’t seem to help.
Sometimes, evil seems to continue forever.
But the Bible teaches that God’s justice is real.
When the time comes, justice will appear.
God’s promises may seem forgotten, but they are alive.
Like a seed in the ground, they will grow when the time is right.
So, don’t give up.
Even when things feel unfair, God is working.
In the New Testament, Jesus said, “God can raise children for Abraham from these stones” (Matthew 3:9).
God can create something from nothing, and remove what seems strong.
Even in hard times, God can bring change.
