「自転車の鍵をなくしてしまった！どこを探しても見つからない…」こうした状況で、あなたならどうしますか？新しい鍵を買ってあきらめる人もいるでしょう。しかし、ある人は「神様、助けてください」と祈り、その結果、思いがけない場所から鍵を見つけたそうです。
聖書には、こんなふうに「ちょっとした困りごと」に神様が関わる物語があります。その一つが列王記第二6章に出てくる「沈んだ斧」の話です。内容は、斧が川に落ちてしまったというだけの出来事です。なぜ、こんなに小さな出来事が聖書に記されているのでしょうか。実はここには、私たちの人生に関わる大切なメッセージが込められています。
2. 小さな出来事における神の配慮
物語は、斧の頭が川に落ちてしまう場面から始まります。一見すると、ささいな失敗やトラブルに見える出来事です。しかし、預言者エリシャはこの小さな問題にも真剣に向き合い、奇跡を通して斧を取り戻します。この話は「借りていた斧」という日常の責任や不安さえ、神が気にかけてくださることを教えています。
他にも、イエスが最初に行った奇跡として知られる「水をぶどう酒に変えた」出来事や、魚の口からお金を得た話も、日常の中で人々の困りごとに寄り添う神様の姿を示しています。これらの物語が伝えるのは、「神様は人の小さな失敗や悩みにも関心を持っておられる」ということです。私たちもどんな小さなことでも素直に神に打ち明け、毎日の中で神様と共に歩もうとする姿勢が大切だということに気付かされます。
3. 信仰の目（霊の目）が開かれる重要性
さらに大切なのは、目に見える問題だけに振り回されるのではなく、信仰の「霊の目」を開いて神様の配慮を感じ取ることです。使徒パウロもエペソ書の中で「あなたがたの心の目がはっきり見えるように」と祈っています。なぜなら、霊的な視野が閉ざされていることこそ、多くの迷いや苦しみの原因になるからです。現実にある課題の背後に神の守りと導きがあることを意識できるかどうかが、信仰にとってとても大切な視点であることが、次のエピソードでさらに明らかになります。
4. アラム軍に包囲されたエリシャの物語
この時、イスラエルとアラム（現在のシリア）は何度も戦争をしていました。預言者エリシャはイスラエルの王に戦いの助言をし、アラムの攻撃を事前に防いでいました。そのため、アラムの王は「誰かが裏切っているのでは？」と疑いましたが、実際は預言者が敵の計画を見抜いていたのです。
そこでアラム王はエリシャを捕まえるため、大軍を送り、エリシャの町を夜のうちに包囲します。朝になって町が敵軍に囲まれているのを見たエリシャのしもべは、恐ろしくて動揺します。けれどもエリシャは落ち着いて「恐れなくてよい。私たちと共にいる者の方が多い」と語りました。
どういうことでしょうか。エリシャが祈ると、しもべの霊の目が開かれ、山には炎の馬と戦車が満ちているのを見ました。つまり、目に見えない神の守りがそこにあったのです。
5. 平和を創る対応
ここでもう一つ大切なエピソードが加わります。霊の目が開かれ、信仰によって社会全体が神の守りや支配の中にあると気づくことは、私たちの心の在り方をどう変えるのでしょうか。次の話は、信仰を持つことの本当の意味を教えてくれます。
神の守りによってアラム軍を捕らえたイスラエルの王ヨラムは、この機会に敵を滅ぼそうと考えます。しかし、エリシャは「敵をもてなし、無事に祖国へ返しなさい」と諭しました。ここで選ばれたのは、剣には剣で応えるのではなく、愛で返す道でした。
争いが激しくなり、報復の連鎖が生まれるのを止めるためには、赦しや和解の気持ちが欠かせません。世界を支配し、守っておられる神の心は、赦しや和解を通して平和が保たれることです。そして、神を信じ、神の霊の目を開かせてもらった私たちにも、同じ心が求められます。現代でも、国と国との争いが絶えませんが、ここには「平和は誰かから与えられるものではなく、私たち自身の生き方によって築かれる」という普遍的なメッセージが込められています。神の愛に生き、十字架の愛を実践することが、平和の土台になるのです。
私たちも、小さなことも大きなことも、信仰の目を開き、神様とともに生きながら、神の心を表し、平和や安心を求めて行動していきましょう。今日も良い1日となりますように。それでは、また明日。
Season 6: 2 Kings 6 – Eyes of the Spirit Opened
Introduction
Have you ever lost your bicycle key? You search everywhere, but you can’t find it. What would you do? Some people give up and buy a new key. But one person prayed, “God, please help me,” and then found the key in an unexpected place.
The Bible has stories like this, where God cares about small problems. One of them is in 2 Kings 6, the story of the “lost axe head.” The axe fell into the river. That’s all. Why is such a small event in the Bible? Because it has an important message for our lives.
1. God’s Care in Small Things
The story begins when the iron axe head falls into the river. It looks like a small mistake. But the prophet Elisha takes this problem seriously and helps through a miracle. The axe was borrowed, so the man was worried. This shows that God cares even about small responsibilities and fears.
Jesus also helped in small ways: turning water into wine at a wedding, or finding money in a fish’s mouth. These stories teach us that God cares about our daily life. We can tell God even small things and walk with Him every day.
2. Opening the Eyes of Faith
It is important not to focus only on visible problems. We need to open the “eyes of faith” and see God’s care. Paul prayed in Ephesians, “that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened.” When our spiritual vision is closed, we feel lost and suffer. Seeing God’s help behind our problems is key to faith.
3. Elisha Surrounded by Aram’s Army
Israel and Aram (today’s Syria) were often at war. Elisha warned Israel’s king and stopped Aram’s attacks. The king of Aram thought someone was betraying him, but it was Elisha who knew their plans.
So Aram sent a big army to capture Elisha. They surrounded his town at night. In the morning, Elisha’s servant saw the army and was afraid. But Elisha said, “Do not fear. Those who are with us are more than those with them.”
Then Elisha prayed, and the servant’s eyes were opened. He saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire. God’s protection was there, even if they could not see it before.
4. Creating Peace
Israel captured the Aramean soldiers. The king wanted to kill them. But Elisha said, “Give them food and send them home.” He chose love, not revenge.
Peace does not come by force. It comes by forgiveness and kindness. God wants peace through love. This is true even today. Wars continue, but peace starts with our choices. Living in God’s love and practicing forgiveness is the foundation of peace.
