最近、物価がどんどん上がっていますが、もしスーパーでお米が1キロ10万円になったら、あなたはどうしますか？ 実は、このような状況が、はるか昔のイスラエルのサマリアという町で、しかも今よりももっと深刻な形で本当に起きていました。
1．サマリアの飢饉―絶望の中の現実
列王記第二7章は、アラム軍がサマリアを包囲した時の物語です。都市は完全に孤立し、食料は底をつきました。
「ろばの頭（イスラエルの律法で禁止された食物：レビ11:3）」や「鳩の糞」までもが、労働者の月収を超える法外な値段で売り出されました（鳩の糞の解釈については、諸説があるので、みんなの聖書学院学院長ブログを読んでみてください）。さらなる悲劇として、ここには、親が自分の子を食べてしまうという極限の行為まで起こったことが書かれています（6:25-31）。これは単なる経済危機ではなく、人間の希望が完全に失われた状況でした。
2．エリシャの預言と神のことばの確かさ
このように誰もが絶望していたとき、預言者エリシャが神の言葉を伝えました。「明日の今ごろ、サマリアの門では、小麦粉や大麦がとても安い値段で売られるようになる」と。しかし、王の側近は現実を前に、「たとえ天に窓が開かれたとしても、そんなことは起こるはずがない」と否定します。その言葉に対し、エリシャは「あなたはその奇跡を目にするが、実際に味わうことはできない」と告げました。そのとおり、側近は奇跡を見たものの祝福を受け取ることはできませんでした。人間には不可能に思えることでも、神の約束は必ず実現する、これが聖書全体が繰り返し強調することです。
3．ツァラアト患者たちの選択と「公正」への目覚め
さて、この状況を最初に変えたのは、町の外にいた4人のツァラアトの病に侵された人たちでした。彼らは「どうせこのまま死ぬのなら、思いきって敵陣に行こう」と決めてアラム軍に向かいます。ところが行ってみると、不思議なことにアラム軍はすでに退却しており、食料や財産がそのまま残っていました。最初は自分たちだけでこの恵みを独り占めしようとしましたが、「この大変なときに、自分たちだけ満たされるのは間違っている」と気づき、町の人たちに「良い知らせ」を伝える決断をします。それが、やがて町全体の救いにつながりました。
4．信仰の一歩と分かち合いがもたらす祝福
信仰があっても、また神の言葉を読んでいても、「何も変わらない」と感じることがあるかもしれません。しかし聖書は、「信じて実際に行動する」ことで初めて神の約束の本当の素晴らしさを体験できると語っています。もう一度、エリシャを通して伝えられた神の言葉を思い出しましょう。「風を見ず、大雨を見なくても、この涸れた谷には水があふれる。これは主の目には小さなことです。」（2列王記3:17,18）、「どうか、彼の目を開いて、見えるようにしてください。」（2列王記6:17）。
また、「良い知らせ」を人と分かち合うという決断が、最終的に町全体を救いました。たとえ損をすると思えても、神の恵みはそれをはるかに超えることを信じる心が大切です。旧約聖書の預言者マラキも「神は天の窓を開き、あふれるほどの祝福を注がれる」と語っています（マラキ3:10）。
5．まとめ
どんなに厳しい状況でも、信仰や良心、そして人と分かち合う気持ちがあれば道は開けます。今日もまた、私たちが「正しい選択」を行い、神の恵みを信じて一歩を踏み出し、神の祝福をともに味わえる一日となることを願います。それでは、また明日。
Season 6: 2 Kings 7 – The Famine and the Miracle in Samaria
Prices are going up everywhere. Imagine if rice in the supermarket cost 100,000 yen per kilo. What would you do?
This really happened long ago in Israel, in the city of Samaria—and it was even worse.
1. The Famine in Samaria – A Reality of Despair
2 Kings 7 tells about the time when the Aramean army surrounded Samaria. The city was cut off, and food was gone.
Even a donkey’s head (forbidden by Israel’s law: Leviticus 11:3) and dove’s dung were sold for more than a worker’s monthly wage.
(Some say “dove’s dung” was not real dung but a plant used as food in famine. See the Bible Academy blog for details.)
Worst of all, parents cooked their own children to survive (6:25–31). This was not just a food crisis—it was total hopelessness.
2. Elisha’s Prophecy and God’s Word
When everyone had lost hope, the prophet Elisha spoke God’s word:
“Tomorrow, at the gate of Samaria, flour and barley will be sold at a very low price.”
But the king’s officer said, “Even if God opened the windows of heaven, this could never happen.”
Elisha replied, “You will see it, but you will not eat it.”
And that is what happened. The officer saw the miracle but did not enjoy it.
God’s promises always come true—even when they seem impossible.
3. The Choice of the Men with Skin Disease
The first to notice the change were four men with tzaraath (a skin disease).
They said, “If we stay here, we will die. Let’s go to the enemy camp.”
When they arrived, the Arameans had already fled, leaving food and treasure behind.
At first, they tried to keep it for themselves. But then they said,
“This is a day of good news. We cannot stay silent.”
They told the city, and that saved everyone.
4. Faith and Sharing Bring Blessing
Sometimes we read the Bible and think, “Nothing changes.”
But the Bible says: when we believe and act, we see God’s promise come true.
Elisha said before:
“You will not see wind or rain, but this valley will be full of water. This is easy for the Lord.” (2 Kings 3:17–18)
And: “Open his eyes so he may see.” (2 Kings 6:17)
Sharing good news saved the city. Even if it looks like a loss, God’s blessing is greater.
Malachi also says: “God will open the windows of heaven and pour out blessing.” (Malachi 3:10)
5. Summary
No matter how hard life is, faith, conscience, and sharing can open the way.
