1．サウルとダビデ、二人の窮地
かつて敵同士だったサウルとダビデは、同じ時期に、それぞれ大きな危機に直面しました。ダビデは、ペリシテ人の王アキシュに仕えており、イスラエルとの戦いに参加するよう求められました。一方サウルは、ペリシテ軍が迫る中、恐れに震えていました。どちらも孤立し、出口が見えない状況に追い込まれていました。ここから、私たちが学べるのは、「困難や孤独は誰にでも訪れる」ということです。
2．サウルの追い詰められた状況
ペリシテ軍は北部のシュネムに陣を構え、サウルはギルボア山にいました。二つの陣地の間には谷が広がり、サウルは敵に囲まれたような状態です。さらに、彼は神に祈っても答えは返ってきません。夢でも、祭司を通しても、預言者を通しても、神は沈黙を続けていました。
なぜ神は答えなかったのでしょうか？それは、神がすでに十分語っていたからです。神はもう新しい指示を与える必要はありませんでした。問題はサウルが、これまで神の言葉に従ってこなかったことにあります。
3．サウルの選択：霊媒への依存
追い詰められたサウルは、かつて自分で禁止した「霊媒」に頼るのです。霊媒とは、死者の霊を呼び出すと信じられていた人のことです。サウルは夜に変装し、エン・ドルという町の霊媒を訪ねます。そして「サムエルを呼び出してほしい」と頼むのです。
ここに大きな皮肉があります。サウルは「主は生きておられる」と神の名にかけて誓いながら、神が禁じたことをしているのです。これは、恐れと焦りが人をどこまで追い込むかを示す象徴的な場面です。
4．霊媒の言葉とサウルの問題の核心
霊媒が呼び出したのは、本当にサムエルだったのでしょうか？聖書の語り手は「サムエル」と記しています。そして、その言葉は翌日、現実となります。サムエルはこう告げます。
「主はあなたから去り、あなたの敵になられたのに。明日、あなたもあなたの息子たちも、私と一緒になるだろう。」
これは、サウルの王としての時代が終わることを意味しています。問題の核心は、サウルが「神の声に従わなかった」「従い続けなかった」ことにあります。権力や地位にしがみつき、神の主権を忘れたことが、破滅の原因でした。
5．私たちへの教訓：権威と信仰の本質
この物語は、宗教を超えて普遍的な問いを投げかけています。
１）権威や地位は誰のものか？
聖書は「権威や地位は神からの預かりもの」と語ります。現代で言えば、会社の役職や社会的な立場も同じです。自分の力で得たと思い込むと、失うことを恐れて間違った選択をしやすくなります。
２）沈黙のとき、どうするか？
人生には「答えが見えない時期」があります。そのとき、私たちは手っ取り早い解決を求めがちです。そのため占いやスピリチュアルなものに頼る人もいます。でも、それは本当に解決になるでしょうか？聖書は「過去に与えられた確かな言葉に立ち返る」ことを勧めます。現代的に言えば、「原点に戻る」「信頼できる価値観を再確認する」ということです。
6．真の敵を見誤らない
サウルは、ダビデを敵だと思っていました。でも、彼にとっての本当の敵は「自身の名誉欲」であり「神の主権を認めない不従順」でした。私たちも同じです。問題の本質を見誤ると、間違った方向に走ってしまいます。
だからこそ、こう問いかけたいのです。「いま、あなたが戦っている敵は、本当に敵ですか？」そして、もし違うと気づいたら、立ち止まり、正しい道に戻る勇気を持ちましょう。そして神の祝福が満ち溢れますように。ではまた明日。
1 Samuel 28 – Saul Calls Samuel
1. Saul and David: Two Men in Trouble
Saul and David were once enemies. Now, both face big problems.
David is living with the Philistines. Their king, Achish, wants David to fight against Israel.
Saul is afraid because the Philistine army is near. Both men feel alone and have no way out.
This story reminds us: hard times and loneliness come to everyone.
2. Saul’s Desperate Situation
The Philistines camped at Shunem. Saul stayed on Mount Gilboa. A valley was between them, but Saul felt trapped.
He prayed to God, but there was no answer. No dreams, no message from priests, no word from prophets.
Why was God silent? Because God had already spoken many times. Saul’s real problem was this: he did not obey God before.
3. Saul’s Choice: Asking a Medium
Saul made a very bad choice. He went to a medium—a woman who claimed she could call the dead.
This is something Saul himself had banned before! But now, in fear, he broke his own law.
He even swore by God’s name to protect the woman, while doing what God said was wrong.
This shows how fear can push people to do things they know are wrong.
4. The Medium’s Message and Saul’s Real Problem
The woman called Samuel’s spirit. Was it really Samuel? The Bible says it was, and what he said came true the next day.
Samuel told Saul:
“The Lord has left you and has become your enemy. Tomorrow you and your sons will be with me.”
This means Saul’s time as king was over. His main problem was not the Philistines. It was his disobedience and his desire to keep power instead of trusting God.
5. Lessons for Us Today
This story asks big questions for everyone, not only for religious people.
(1) Who owns power and position?
The Bible says: power is something God gives for a time. Today, it could be your job or social status. If we think it is ours forever, we fear losing it and make bad choices.
(2) What do we do when God is silent?
Life has times when answers do not come quickly. Then we want an easy way out. Some people go to fortune-telling or “spiritual” solutions. But do they really help?
The Bible says: go back to what you already know is true. In modern words: return to your values, your foundation.
6. Do Not Fight the Wrong Enemy
Saul thought David was his enemy. But his real enemy was fear and pride.
What about us? Sometimes we fight the wrong battles.
So ask yourself:
“Is the enemy I see really the problem?”
If not, stop, turn around, and choose the right way.
