1．神の約束は本当に実現した
イスラエルの人々は、ついに神さまから約束されていた土地を受け取りました。その後、ルベン族・ガド族・マナセ族の半分の人たちは、自分たちの家があるヨルダン川の東側へ帰っていきます。実は彼らは、すでに土地を受け取っていたにもかかわらず、他の部族のために戦いにも参加していました。これはヨシュア記1章での約束を守った行動であり、彼らの誠実さはとても立派でした。
2．自分のためだけでなく、みんなのために
彼らの行動は、イエス・キリストが自分のためではなく他の人のために十字架にかかってくださった姿を思い出させます（ピリピ人への手紙2章）。神さまを信じる人は、「自分さえよければいい」と考えるのではなく、みんなのために働くことが求められています。ヨシュア記22章5節には「主を愛し、主にすがり、命令を守って、心を尽くして仕えなさい」と書かれています。つまり、たとえ損をしても、忠実であることの方が大切だということです。
3．勘違いと感情、でも冷静な話し合いが大切
東の民は家に帰ったあと、祭壇を作りました（22章10節）。それを見た他の部族は、「もしかして別の神を拝もうとしているのでは？」と疑いました。神さまは「礼拝の祭壇はひとつだけ」と命じていたので、みんな驚いたのです（申命記12章）。一時は戦いになりそうでしたが、祭司ピネハスが東の民の話を聞きに行きました。すると、それは礼拝のための祭壇ではなく、「私たちも神さまを礼拝しています」という証拠のしるしだったことが分かります（22章27節）。相手の話をしっかり聞いたことで争いは起こらず、むしろ「信仰の記念碑」として受け止められました。
4．話し合う力、それが信仰の民の姿
この話で大切なのは、「きちんと説明しようとした人」と「しっかり耳を傾けた人」がいたことです。もしどちらかが怒ったまま話を聞かなかったら、戦いになっていたかもしれません。今日の教会や家庭でも、「聞いた話だけで判断する」「うわさで怒る」といった誤解が起こることがあります。しかし、神さまの民は冷静に話し合い、問題を解決しようとする人たちです。「主にすがる」人は、感情に流されず、誠実に対応できます。神の十字架の愛に生きているなら、誤解を解こうとせずに相手と縁を切るような態度からは卒業していきましょう。
5．今、教会に生きる私たちにできること
クリスチャンと呼ばれる人が、みんな成熟しているとは限りません。しかし、ヨシュア記22章は次のことを教えてくれます。
・約束を守ること
・誤解に冷静に対応すること
・戦うのではなく、一致を目指すこと
これこそが信仰の民の証（あかし）です。ときには損をするような役割を担うこともあるかもしれませんが、神さまの恵みによって、平和をつくる者になることができます。
最後に：「一致の証人」になろう
今の私たちのまわりにも、ヨルダン川のような「見えない壁」があるかもしれません。しかし、神さまにより頼む人は、その壁を越えて「私は神さまを信じています」と言える記念碑を建てることができます。冷静な対話と主への信頼、これこそが私たちが築いていく「信仰の記念碑」です。
今日もまた、神さまの恵みを受けて歩めますように。そして、あなたが関わるすべての場所――家庭、職場、学校、地域、そして教会に、神さまの豊かな祝福がありますように。

Joshua 22: A Faith Monument Built Through Misunderstanding and Dialogue
1. God’s Promise Was Truly Fulfilled
The people of Israel finally received the land that God had promised. After that, the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh returned to their homes on the east side of the Jordan River.
Even though they already had their land, they helped the other tribes in battle. This was a promise they made in Joshua chapter 1, and they kept it faithfully. Their actions were honest and honorable.
2. Not Just for Themselves, But for Everyone
Their actions remind us of Jesus Christ, who gave His life not for Himself, but for others (Philippians 2).
People who believe in God are called to live not only for themselves, but to help others.
Joshua 22:5 says:
“Love the Lord your God, hold on to Him, obey His commands, and serve Him with all your heart.”
This means that even if it costs us something, being faithful to God is more important than personal gain.
3. Misunderstanding and Emotion—But Calm Conversation Matters
After returning home, the eastern tribes built an altar (verse 10).
The other tribes saw it and thought, “Are they worshiping another god?”
God had said there should be only one altar for worship (Deuteronomy 12), so the people were shocked.
They almost went to war. But before fighting, the priest Phinehas went to talk with them.
The eastern tribes explained:
“This altar is not for sacrifices. It is a sign—a witness—that we also worship the Lord” (verse 27).
Because they listened carefully, the misunderstanding was cleared.
The altar became a symbol of faith, not division.
4. The Power of Listening and Explaining
This story teaches us something important:
There were people who explained clearly, and people who listened carefully.
If either side had refused to talk, war might have happened.
Even today, in churches, families, and communities, misunderstandings can happen.
But God’s people are called to speak calmly and listen with care.
If we live in the love of Jesus, we don’t cut people off when we’re hurt—we try to understand and restore peace.
5. What We Can Do in Today’s Church
Not every Christian is mature. But Joshua 22 teaches us what true faith looks like:
Keep your promises
Respond calmly to misunderstanding
Seek unity, not conflict
Sometimes we may have to take on difficult roles. But with God’s help, we can become people who build peace.
Final Thought: Be a Witness of Unity
Today, we may face “invisible walls” like the Jordan River—things that separate us.
But if we trust God, we can build a monument that says:
“We believe in the Lord together.”
Calm conversation and trust in God—this is how we build a true monument of faith.
May you walk today in God’s grace.
And may every place you go—your home, your work, your school, your church—be filled with His blessing.
