現代社会では個人の才能や成功に注目が集まりがちですが、本当に大切なのは、その賜物をどのように他者に役立てられるかです。今日は、古代のとある王の繁栄が、自国だけでなく他国の幸いにも及んでいく――そんなビジョンを描いた短い物語から、「与えられた力を何のために使うのか」を考えてまいります。
1．シェバの女王とソロモン
ソロモンの噂を聞き、シェバの女王がソロモンを訪れました。シェバは、今のイエメンあたりにあったサバ王国と考えられています。香料や金の交易で栄えた国です。女王は、「ソロモンの知恵と主の名声」を聞き、「難問（ヘブライ語でヒードート＝謎や難題）」を携えてやってきました。つまり、ただの観光ではなく、本気で学びに来たのです。
当時のイスラエルは、国際貿易のハブ。「タルシシュの船」という大型交易船も登場します。世界とつながる国。その中心に、知恵の王ソロモンがいたのです。
2. 物語のクライマックス
女王は、ソロモンと対話し、宮殿や礼拝の秩序を見て、こう言います。「あなたの神が、あなたを通してこの国を愛している」（列王記上10:9）ここが大事です。女王は、ソロモン個人をほめるだけでなく、「神があなたを通して国を祝福している」と見抜きました。
つまり、ソロモンの知恵は、単にソロモン自身のためだけに与えられたものではなかったのです。それは、イスラエルという共同体に対する神の深い愛によるもので、ソロモンがその祝福の器として選ばれたことを意味していました。
この物語は旧約聖書「創世記12章3節」のアブラハム契約を思い起こさせます。「地のすべての部族は、あなたによって祝福される」と神が語ったように、祝福は特定の人や民族だけで完結せず、広く周囲に分かち合われるというビジョンがあります。私たちが受ける賜物や恩恵も同様であり、それ自体にとどまるのではなく、他者への祝福へと波及していくものです。これが、この物語の神学的な核心なのです。
3.しかし、影にも注意
ただ、この10章、明るい話に見えますが、実は伏線のある内容です。ソロモンは、馬と戦車を大量に集め、エジプトと取引をしていました。これは、律法（申命記17章）で「王は馬や金を増やしすぎるな」と警告されていたことでした。つまり、繁栄の中に危うさが潜んでいたのです。そして次の11章で、ソロモンは偶像礼拝に傾き、国は分裂していきます…。つまり第一列王記の9–11章は、ソロモン物語の「約束 → 栄光のピーク → 失速」という大きな弧を描いているのです。10章はただの成功物語ではなく、成功が崩れる前兆までを映す「光と影」のコントラスト。成功のピークにこそ、崩れの芽があるというわけです。これは、現代の企業やリーダーにも通じる話です。
4. 現代への応用
この10章から私たちが学ぶのは、まず自分の力や才能を、「自分 → 周り → 社会」へと広げる視野を持つことでしょう。「このスキル、誰のために使えるのかな？」と考えてみることです。人生で与えられる特別な才能や地位は、もちろんその人自身を豊かにします。しかし、根本的には、それが周囲の人々全体に良い影響を与えるために存在しています。才能も所有も自己中心的に独占しやすいものですが、それらはもともと神の愛によって与えられ、分かち合うためにあるのです。「自分だけ」を大事にする考え方から解放されて、家族、教会、職場、学校――様々な共同体で自分がどのように役立てるのかを考えてみましょう。
そして、何かを持っていると感じるときほど要注意です。自分の心の「ひび」に気づく謙虚さを忘れないようにしましょう。そのためにも日々、聖書を学び続け、正しい問いを自分に投げかけていくことが大切です。
そして、新約聖書でイエスがこう語ることにも注意したいのです。「ソロモンにまさるものがあります」（マタイ12:42）。究極の知恵であるキリストに出会うこと。シェバの女王のように真剣に求めている人にとっては、それが、人生最大の気づきや喜びになるでしょう。今日一日が、皆さんの心の問いに豊かな答えを見つけ出す日となりますように。ではまた明日。
Season 6 | 1 Kings 10 – The Queen of Sheba and Solomon
In today’s world, people often focus on personal talent and success. But the real question is: How do we use our gifts to help others?
Today, we look at an ancient story where a king’s greatness blessed not only his own nation but also others. From this, we ask: “What is the purpose of the power we have?”
1. The Queen of Sheba and Solomon
The Queen of Sheba heard about Solomon and came to visit him. Sheba was likely in today’s Yemen, a rich kingdom famous for trade in spices and gold.
She came because she heard about Solomon’s wisdom and the name of the Lord. She brought hard questions (Hebrew: hidot = riddles or deep questions). This was not a sightseeing trip. She came to learn.
At that time, Israel was a trade hub. The Bible even mentions “ships of Tarshish”, large trading ships. Israel was connected to the world, and Solomon was at the center.
2. The Highlight of the Story
The Queen spoke after seeing Solomon’s wisdom and the order of his kingdom:
“Praise be to your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel” (1 Kings 10:9).
She saw something important: Solomon’s wisdom was not only for himself. It was a sign of God’s love for the whole nation.
This reminds us of God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:3:
“All nations on earth will be blessed through you.”
Blessing is not meant to stop with one person. It is meant to flow outward. Our talents and resources are the same. They are given to share, not to keep.
3. But There Is a Warning
This chapter looks bright, but there is a shadow. Solomon collected many horses and traded with Egypt. This broke God’s law in Deuteronomy 17:
“The king must not multiply horses or gold.”
Success can hide danger. In the next chapter, Solomon turns to idols, and the kingdom begins to fall.
Chapters 9–11 show a big arc: Promise → Peak → Decline.
Lesson? The higher the success, the greater the risk of pride. This is true for leaders and companies today.
4. Application for Today
What can we learn? Three things:
① Share Your Gifts
Think: “Who can benefit from my skills?”
Your talent is not only for you. It is for family, community, and society.
② Practice Self-Control
When you have power or wealth, be careful. Build systems of accountability. Stay humble.
③ Keep Asking Good Questions
The Queen came with questions. Growth starts with asking.

5. Closing
The Queen traveled far to find wisdom. We can start close to home.
The Bible says: “One greater than Solomon is here” (Matthew 12:42).
That is Jesus—the ultimate wisdom.
