1．何を信じ、誰に頼るのか？
お守りやシンボルは、私たちに安心感を与えてくれます。しかし、象徴そのものに頼るのと、その奥にある本質を大切にするのとでは、得られる結果が大きく異なります。古代イスラエルで起こった「アブサロムの謀反」という事件は、私たちに次のような問いを投げかけます。「困難なとき、本当に頼れるのは誰なのか？ そして、神とはどんな存在なのか？」これは宗教の枠を超え、私たち一人ひとりの人生に深く関係するテーマです。
2．危機の中で明らかになる「本当の友」
ダビデ王は、息子アブサロムの反乱に直面し、命を守るためにエルサレムを後にします。その行動は孤独で、涙を流しながらの避難でした。そんなとき、意外な出来事が起こります。最後までダビデに従ったのは、同胞のイスラエルの人々ではなく、外国人の兵士たちでした。彼らは「王様のおられるところなら、死ぬときも一緒です」（2サム15:21）と断言します。しかも、彼らはもともとイスラエルと対立していた民族の出身でした。血のつながりではなく、信頼と忠誠によって結ばれた関係です。危機のときにこそ、表面的な仲間と、本当に一緒にいてくれる仲間の違いが明らかになります。
3．信仰とは「現実を共に生き抜く力」
信仰は、きれいな言葉や儀式だけではありません。むしろ、苦しいときに助け合いながら前へ進んでいく力、その現実と向き合い共に歩む力が信仰です。
「主を賛美します」と口にすることは簡単ですし、「礼拝を素晴らしいものにしよう」と声を合わせてそのような雰囲気を作るのも難しくありません。しかし、本当の価値は、現実の困難の中でお互いを支え、神を信じて行動できるかどうかにあります。そこにこそ、信仰の真価が問われるのです。
4．ダビデの選択 ― 形よりも神ご自身
退避の途中で、祭司たちは「神の箱」をダビデのもとに持ってきました。これはイスラエルの人々にとって、神の臨在を象徴する大切なものでした。しかし、ダビデは「神の御心であれば、私は戻ることができる。だから神の箱は町に戻しなさい」と命じます。
彼は形にしがみついて安心を得ようとはしませんでした。「神の箱」そのものが神ではない。本当に大切なのは、目に見えない神ご自身の心です。私たちにも「形や儀式に頼っていないか？ 本当に信頼しているのは誰か？」と問いかけています。
このとき、ダビデは詩篇62章を詠んだと言われています。5～7節には、「私のたましいよ、黙ってただ神を待ち望め。私の望みは神から来る。神こそ、わが岩、わが救い」という、神への絶対的な信頼が記されています。
5．見えないところで働く神
アブサロムの勢いは非常に強く、誰の目にも彼が勝利するように思えました。しかしその裏で、神はダビデを助けるために人々を動かしていました。その一人が「フシャイ」という友人です。彼は敵の中に入り、アブサロムの参謀の計画をくつがえします。人の目には悪が勝っているように見えても、神はちゃんと働いているのです。
これは昔話ではありません。今もなお、見えない場所で正義と希望につながる、神の働きがある、と信じられるのではないでしょうか。
6．新しい力が満ちますように
この物語が教えてくれるのは、「何を信じ、誰と共にいるのか」が試されるのは、平和なときではなく危機のときだということです。形や儀式に頼るのではなく、その本質を信頼することで人生は支えられます。そして、見えない場所でも神は働いているという計画を信じて、善い選択をし続けることが大切です。今、あなたはどんな不安や困難を抱えていますか？
「象徴」に頼るのではなく、「本質」に立った信頼を選ぶことで、新しい力が生まれます。今日、あなたに新しい力が満ちますように。また明日、お会いしましょう。
Season 6: 2 Samuel 15 – Absalom’s Rebellion— Who Do You Trust? —
1. Who Do You Trust in Hard Times?
Charms and symbols can make us feel safe. But trusting in a symbol is very different from trusting in the reality behind it.
The story of Absalom’s rebellion in ancient Israel asks us:
“When life is hard, who can you really trust? And what is God really like?”
This question matters for everyone, not only for religious people.
2. True Friends in a Crisis
King David faced a rebellion led by his own son, Absalom. He left Jerusalem in tears to save his life.
Then something surprising happened: those who stayed with him were not his fellow Israelites, but foreign soldiers.
They said:
“Wherever you go, we will go—even if it means death.” (2 Samuel 15:21)
They were from nations that once fought Israel.
This shows us: real loyalty is not about blood ties, but about trust and commitment.
In hard times, you find out who your true friends are.
3. Faith Is Strength to Face Reality
Faith is not just nice words or rituals.
It is the power to stand together and move forward in hard times.
It is easy to say, “Praise the Lord,” or create a good atmosphere in worship.
But the real question is: Can we support each other and trust God when life is tough?
That is where true faith is tested.
4. David’s Choice — God Over Symbols
On the way out, priests brought the Ark of God to David.
This was a holy symbol of God’s presence.
But David said:
“If God wants, He will bring me back. Take the Ark back to the city.”
He refused to hold on to a symbol for comfort.
The Ark is not God. What matters is God Himself, unseen but real.
This asks us:
“Do we trust in forms and rituals—or in the living God?”
David expressed this trust in Psalm 62:
“My soul, wait in silence for God alone… He is my rock and my salvation.” (vv. 5–7)
5. God Works Behind the Scenes
Absalom looked unstoppable.
But behind the scenes, God was working.
He sent David’s friend Hushai to break Absalom’s plans.
Even when evil seems to win, God is still at work.
This is not just an old story.
Even today, can we believe that God works for justice and hope in ways we cannot see?
6. A New Strength for You
This story teaches us:
- Who you trust and who you walk with matters most in a crisis.
- Symbols cannot save you—only the reality behind them can.
- God works in hidden ways, so keep choosing what is good.
