1．なぜ「ダビデの選び」の物語を読むのか
「自分には価値がないのでは？」と感じたことはありませんか。聖書には、そんな気持ちに寄り添ってくれる物語があります。その一つが、ダビデという青年が王に選ばれる場面です。この話は、単なる昔話ではありません。神が人をどのように見て、どのように選ぶのかを教えてくれる、大切なメッセージが込められています。
2．神の選び方：見た目ではなく心を見る
神は預言者サムエルに、「人は見た目を見るが、主は心を見る」と語りました（サムエル記第一16章7節）。ここで言う「心」とは、感情だけでなく、その人の誠実さや信頼、内面の姿勢を指します。つまり、神は外見や肩書きではなく、その人がどんな思いで生きているかを見ておられるのです。
3．ダビデの意外な選ばれ方
ダビデはエッサイという人の家の末っ子でした。昔のイスラエルでは、長男が家を継ぎ、末っ子はあまり重視されませんでした。そのため、ダビデは家族の中でも目立たない存在でした。しかし、神はそんな彼を選ばれたのです。これは、「人が見落としがちな人を、神は大切にされる」ということを教えてくれます。
4．新約聖書とのつながり：神の逆転の価値観
この考え方は新約聖書にも受け継がれています。パウロは「神は、この世で弱いとされる人を選ばれた」と語っています（コリントの信徒への手紙第一1章27〜28節）。また、イエスも「心の貧しい人は幸いです」と言いました（マタイによる福音書5章3節）。つまり、神は社会の評価とは違う視点で人を見ておられるのです。
5．ダビデとサウルの出会い：神の働きの始まり
サムエルがダビデに油を注ぐと、神の霊が彼に強く宿りました（サムエル記第一16章13節）。この出来事は、後に弟子たちに聖霊が下ったペンテコステ（使徒言行録2章）にもつながります。一方で、サウル王は霊的な守りを怠り、神との関係を失ってしまい（2テモテ6:20）、心が不安定になっていきました。
そんな中、ダビデは竪琴を奏でる者としてサウルの前に呼ばれます。一見偶然のように思えますが、これは神の導きによる出会いでした。
6．小さなきっかけが大きな導きに
ダビデが王宮に入るきっかけは、家来の一言でした。神は大きな奇跡だけでなく、日常の小さな出来事や人の言葉を通しても働かれます。これは、ヨセフが奴隷からエジプトの大臣になった話（創世記50章20節）にも似ています。
サウルはダビデの竪琴の音色を喜び、ダビデを愛したと書かれていますが、サウルの関心は自分の心が安らぐことだけでした。サウルにとって、ダビデは特別な存在ではありませんでした。少なくともこの時点でサウルは、美しい音色を奏でるこの青年が、いずれ自分の後継者になるとは全く考えていなかったでしょう。神の導きは、私たちが気づかないところでも進んでいるのです。
7．私たちへのメッセージ：自分の価値を信じる
この物語は、「自分なんて…」と思っている人にこそ読んでほしい内容です。神はどんな人も忘れていません。自分を無理にアピールする必要はありません。むしろ、小さな役割に誠実に取り組むことが大切です。イエスは「忠実なしもべ」に報いを与えると語っています（マタイによる福音書25章21節）。あなたの誠実さは、神にとってとても価値のあるものなのです。
8．神の計画に身をゆだねる
神は、私たちの常識や予想を超えて働かれます。今日も、神の導きに心を開き、ダビデが竪琴を心を込めて奏でたように、自分に与えられた役割に誠実に向き合いましょう。神の計画は、思いがけない方法で、しかし確かに実現していきます。あなたの人生にも、神の祝福が豊かにありますように。では、また明日。
Season 6: 1 Samuel Chapter 16 – David, the Chosen Successor
1. Why Read the Story of David’s Calling?
Have you ever felt, “Maybe I’m not important”? The Bible has stories that speak to such feelings. One of them is the story of David, a young man who was chosen to be king. This is not just an old tale. It teaches us how God sees people and how He chooses them.
2. How God Chooses: Looking at the Heart, Not Appearance
God said to the prophet Samuel, “People look at the outside, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Here, “heart” means not just feelings, but honesty, trust, and inner attitude. God does not focus on appearance or status, but on how a person lives and thinks.
3. David’s Unexpected Selection
David was the youngest son in Jesse’s family. In ancient Israel, the oldest son was usually the most important. So David was not seen as special. But God chose him. This shows us that God values people who are often ignored by others.
4. Connection to the New Testament: God’s Upside-Down Values
This idea continues in the New Testament. Paul wrote, “God chose the weak and foolish people of the world” (1 Corinthians 1:27–28). Jesus also said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit” (Matthew 5:3). God sees people differently than society does.
5. David Meets Saul: The Beginning of God’s Work
When Samuel poured oil on David’s head, God’s Spirit came strongly upon him (1 Samuel 16:13). This is similar to the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came to Jesus’ followers (Acts 2). On the other hand, King Saul lost his connection with God and became troubled (2 Timothy 6:20).
Later, David was called to play the harp for Saul. It looked like a coincidence, but it was part of God’s plan.
6. Small Moments Can Lead to Big Changes
David entered the palace because of one servant’s suggestion. God works not only through big miracles, but also through small events and words. This is like the story of Joseph, who became a leader in Egypt after being sold as a slave (Genesis 50:20).
Saul liked David’s music, but he didn’t see David as special. He didn’t know that this young man would one day take his place. God’s plan often moves quietly, behind the scenes.
7. A Message for Us: Trust Your Value
This story is for anyone who feels, “I’m not good enough.” God never forgets anyone. You don’t need to show off or chase status. What matters is being faithful in small things. Jesus said that the “faithful servant” will be rewarded (Matthew 25:21). Your honesty and effort are very valuable to God.
8. Trust in God’s Plan
God works beyond our expectations. Today, let’s open our hearts to His guidance. Like David playing the harp with care, let’s do our part with sincerity. God’s plan will come true in ways we don’t expect. May your life be full of His blessings. See you tomorrow
