2．契約違反の発覚と背景
イスラエルには、3年間も飢饉が続いていました。ダビデ王はその原因を神に問いかけます。すると、初代の王サウルが、ギブオン人との昔の契約を破ったことが理由だと示されました。この契約はヨシュアの時代に結ばれたもので、たとえ成立の過程に問題があったとしても「約束は守らなくてはならない」とされていました（ヨシュア9:15）。
3．償いのためのダビデの決断
ダビデはギブオン人に「どのように償えばよいか」と尋ねました。彼らが求めたのは、サウル家の男子7人を引き渡し、『主の前で』処刑することでした。
この要求は、聖書の民数記35:33にある「流された血は血によってしか清められない」という考えに基づいています。つまり、物やお金で償うのではなく、人の命で償うという厳しさです。

一方で、私たちは弱さのために約束を破ってしまうこともあります。そのとき大切なのは、正義や礼を尽くして問題解決に向かい合うことです。そこにこそ、神に届く本当の祈りも回復されるのです。

Season 6: 2 Samuel 21 – David Restores Normal Life
1. Why Think About This Story?
For months, a mother kept silent and watched over the bodies of her sons left in the open. She said nothing, but stayed to protect them from animals. Her quiet act caught people’s attention and even moved the king.
This story shows that silent actions can change society.
In this chapter, King David faces two big issues: making up for a broken promise and restoring his kingdom. And surprisingly, one mother’s action plays a key role. Even though this is an old story, the question “How do we repair broken trust?” is still very important today.
2. The Broken Promise and Its Background
Israel had a famine for three years. David asked God why. The answer: King Saul broke an old promise to the Gibeonites.
This promise was made in Joshua’s time. Even if the agreement was not perfect, a promise must be kept (Joshua 9:15).
3. David’s Hard Decision
David asked the Gibeonites, “How can I make things right?” They asked for seven sons of Saul to be handed over and killed ‘before the Lord’.
This comes from Numbers 35:33: “Blood can only be paid for by blood.” It was not about money or gifts, but life itself.
David agreed. Then we meet Rizpah, a mother. She stayed for months, protecting the bodies of her sons from animals and birds. Her silent love showed the heavy cost of this act.
David saw this and was moved. He did more than finish the punishment. He brought back the bones of Saul and Jonathan and buried them with honor, together with the seven sons. After this, God answered prayer for the land, and the famine ended.
This shows that honesty and love can heal broken relationships.
4. David’s Change and the Kingdom’s Stability
After this, David’s role changed. He did not keep going to war. His men said, “Please do not go to battle anymore” (21:15–17).
The kingdom’s strength was no longer about one hero, but about teamwork and care for each other. This is a sign of growth and stability.
