これまで一緒に聖書を読み進めてきた皆さん、いよいよ列王記に入りました！この節目を皆さんと迎えられることをとてもうれしく思います。途中で読むのを止まってしまった方も、今日からまた再開してみてください。途中で止まったとしても、また始めることが大切です。
さて、今回読む「列王記第一」は、リーダーの交代や権力争いという、現代社会にも見られるテーマを扱っています。このような問題について、聖書はどんな価値観や視点を示しているのでしょうか。一章を通して、私たちの人生に役立つ知恵を一緒に見ていきましょう。
1．アドニヤの反乱：何が問題だったのか？
ダビデ王が高齢となり、次の王を誰にするかが大きな課題となりました。ダビデの長男と三男は既に亡くなり、次男もすでに亡くなっていたと考えられています。そのため、四男のアドニヤが「自分が王になるべきだ」と考えて立ち上がりました。彼は戦車や兵士を集め、宴会を開き、自分を王だと宣言します。
しかし、実際にはダビデはソロモンを次の王に選んでいました。アドニヤはこの決定を無視し、自分の力によって王になろうとしたのです。
2．ダビデと預言者ナタンの対応
アドニヤの行動によって、すでに後継者として定められていたソロモンや、その母バテシバの命が危険にさらされる状況になりました。ここで預言者ナタンが動き、ダビデ王に事実を伝えて対策を求めます。ダビデは高齢でしたが、しっかりと状況を判断し、問題に対応しました。その結果、アドニヤの計画は失敗に終わります。
アドニヤの行動は「自分が地位を得たい」という人間の強い野心を表しています。しかし聖書は、「最後に実現するのは神の計画だ」と語っているのです。
3．祭壇の角にすがるアドニヤ
自分の命が危ないと感じたアドニヤは、神殿の祭壇の角をつかんで助けを求めます。これは、古代イスラエルで「裁きが下されるまで神の保護を願う」しるしでした（レビ4:7,18参照）。けれども、本当にアドニヤの心は神に向かっていたのでしょうか。信仰による行動ではなく、自分を守るためだけに動いていた可能性もあります。
ここで、「信仰とは何か？」と私たちも考えさせられます。信仰は、神を自分の都合で利用することではありません。神の権威を認め、謙虚に従うことこそが信仰です。
4．信仰の本質と現代への教訓
私たちも時に、信仰や祈り、ささげ物を「自分の守り」や「生活の繁栄」のために用いてしまうことがあります。しかし本来、信仰とは神の権威を認めて、謙虚な心で従うことです。それは天と地を創られ、今も世界を治めておられる神に、心から仕えていく生き方と言えます。自分自身を神よりも上に置いたり、都合よく神の名を用いたりすることが、混乱や争いの原因になるのです。
イエスは信仰者に「私たちは取るに足りないしもべです。なすべきことをしただけです」（ルカ17:10）という心を持ちなさいと教えています。いつも神の御心を求め、へりくだった思いで従うことが、私たちに求められています。
6．まとめ
列王記第一1章の出来事は、単なる王位継承の争いの話ではありません。そこには、人の野心を超えた神の計画があること、そして神の意志が進むことが描かれています。また、信仰とは何かを私たちに考えさせるサイドストーリーも含まれています。

Season 6: 1 Kings Chapter 1 – Another Rebellion (Adonijah’s Case)
Hello everyone! We have been reading the Bible together, and now we start the book of 1 Kings! I’m so happy to reach this point with you. If you stopped reading for a while, don’t worry. Today is a great day to start again. What matters is not that you stopped, but that you begin again.
This book talks about leadership changes and power struggles—topics we still see in today’s world. What does the Bible say about these issues? Let’s look at Chapter 1 and find wisdom for our lives.
1. Adonijah’s Rebellion: What Was Wrong?
King David was old, and the question of who would be the next king became very important. David’s first and third sons had died, and the second son was also gone. So the fourth son, Adonijah, thought, “I should be king.” He gathered chariots and soldiers, held a big feast, and declared himself king.
But David had already chosen Solomon as the next king. Adonijah ignored this decision and tried to become king by his own power.
2. David and the Prophet Nathan Act
Adonijah’s actions put Solomon and his mother Bathsheba in danger. Then the prophet Nathan spoke to David and told him what was happening. Even though David was old, he made a clear decision and acted. As a result, Adonijah’s plan failed.
Adonijah’s behavior shows human ambition—wanting power for yourself. But the Bible teaches that in the end, God’s plan will stand.
3. Adonijah Holds the Horns of the Altar
When Adonijah realized his life was in danger, he ran to the temple and held the horns of the altar. In ancient Israel, this was a sign asking for God’s protection until judgment was given (see Leviticus 4:7,18). But was Adonijah truly trusting God? Probably not. It seems he was only trying to save himself.
This makes us ask: What is real faith?
Faith is not using God for our own benefit. Faith means recognizing God’s authority and following Him with humility.
4. The Heart of Faith and a Lesson for Today
Sometimes we use prayer or offerings only to protect ourselves or to get success. But true faith is to honor God and obey Him with a humble heart. God is the Creator of heaven and earth and still rules the world today. When we put ourselves above God or use His name for our own plans, it brings confusion and conflict.
Jesus said:
“We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.” (Luke 17:10)
This means we should not seek glory for ourselves but serve God with humility.
5. Summary
1 Kings 1 is not just a story about a fight for the throne. It shows that God’s plan is greater than human ambition. It also asks us: What is true faith? What is in your heart today? May your thoughts and plans become part of God’s bigger plan. May your life be full of His blessing. See you next time!
